Mobile Marketing – The Impact of Mobile Apps on Lifestyle and Activities

Mobile phone applications (apps) have become a very powerful marketing tool for businesses. These downloaded apps assist the user in everyday tasks to make life easier for managing a hectic schedule, pass time while waiting in line or at the airport, make shopping more fun as well as make it easier to do business with an array of companies through their apps. The time spent on mobile apps has increased dramatically since the invention of smart devices and the iPad as well as surpassed time spent on the traditional Internet. Social networking apps are near the top of the list such as Facebook and Twitter (Roberts and Zahay, 2013, p. 307). Apps appeal to a wide variety of interests, lifestyles and demographic groups. There are many apps for fashion, sports and entertainment as well as location-based marketing for restaurants, shops, etc. (Roberts and Zahey, 2013, p. 452-554). What do I use on my Blackberry? Do apps really impact my life?
Discussion
I will turn 50 this year, so I am a bit old-fashioned and quite new to the mobile applications market. In fact, I just recently began using apps last August when I received a Blackberry from my new employer. The first app I downloaded was AT&T Navigation so I could get to my new colleagues’ homes for baby showers, poker nights, etc. I then needed the Gas Buddy app to find the lowest gas price near where I live. Another useful app I found was Kayak to help with airline and car rental pricing. The Weather Channel app is great to find out what the weather will be like for the day. While driving I realized I liked music on the radio, but the announcer never states the artist’s name, so I

Technology has advanced so rapidly just over the past ten years that basically every business has had to adopt some form of e-commerce just to stay in business. The use of different forms of technology by basically everyone on a day to day basis has greatly increased the importance and benefits of e-commerce as a whole. Phase 1 – Proposing, Evaluating, and Selecting an Innovation.

...economy expands. Through time and as the economy grows, new ideas or ways of doing things are created. Most organizations are seeking to produce the new “It” item, an invention that will meet the needs of consumers and improve past inventions in an effort to outshine competitors. Each organization seeks to come up with a product that is creative and inventive. Organizations may come up with great inventions and creative ideas through trial and error. It is very common for initial ideas to fail however, these failures almost always tend to lead to greater outcomes and inventions. There are already many technological devices being produced such as, a cell phone charger built into a laptop, mobile cable provider app for smartphones, solar powered smartphones and a safe driving app. X’s innovation: Imagine yourself seating in a taxi, airport, waiting room, etc. doing something very important on your computer. Marketing

...For all of the focus on global branding in recent years, the Super Bowl remains first and foremost a U.S. pop-culture event. Many of the 100 million-plus viewers watch in a group, whether at a party or with family. My student groups were asked to rate the best Super Bowl ads of all time using celebrities and animals. An overwhelming majority of their top picks were ads from iconic Americana brands such as Budweiser, Pepsi, McDonalds, Coca-Cola, Nike and Chrysler. This generalization makes a lot of sense–invoking “American” values and scenes at our ultimate pop culture event would seem to be a recipe for success. The students also found that ads featuring show business celebrities slightly outperformed athletes. Additionally, 75% of the endorsers were male, a much higher skew than the demographics of the Super Bowl viewership and suggests more opportunities to use female celebrities effectively. My students found that over the past five years, about 80% of ads used humor, compared to 30% using a serious approach. Ironically, they also observed that the serious ads outperformed the humorous ads on key effectiveness measures such as likeability (e.g. USA Today Admeter), and expert or industry ratings (e.g., Ace Metrix). Many of the top ads from the past five years, including Budweiser’s “Lost Dog” from last year, use serious approaches. Academic research verifies that humorous ads perform slightly below average. So while humor can work, using it does not guarantee strong performance...

Tweeter

...Tweeter etc. Summary: Tweeter should focus back on its key target customers and get rid off the APP program. In response to the increase competition of low-cost retail stores, Tweeter launched the APP program to remain competitive and gain market share. Although initially successful, the APP strategy miscalculated the long term down side of it. The APP was created to help Tweeter compete on price, which is something that is not part of the company’s core competences. As a result, it lost focus on the 2 customer segments that were loyal to it. In addition, it became a financial burden as Tweeter had to send out checks back to customers more and more. Finally, the image Tweeter had developed over years was a high quality, good services company. It was viewed as a more upper scale price. Even with the introduction of the APP, customers still thought that Tweeter had higher prices than the competition. In order to regain sustainable growth, Tweeter must eliminate APP, rationalize the product portfolio, expanding the unique line of products, and continue focusing on the target segments of Price Biter and Quality/Service Customer, which they currently own 20% of the market and corresponds to 90% of their customer base. Customer Variables: Convenience, price and quality Market Size: Consumer electronics was 30 Billion in the U.S. New England market is 5% of it, which represents. $1.5 billion. Personalized Optimization for Android Smartphones

...University As a highly personalized computing device, smartphones present a unique new opportunity for system optimization. For example, it is widely observed that a smartphone user exhibits very regular application usage patterns (although different users are quite different in their usage patterns). User-specific high-level app usage information, when properly managed, can provide valuable hints for optimizing various system design requirements. In this article, we describe the design and implementation of a personalized optimization framework for the Android platform that takes advantage of user’s application usage patterns in optimizing the performance of the Android platform. Our optimization framework consists of two main components, the application usage modeling module and the usage model-based optimization module. We have developed two novel application usage models that correctly capture typical smartphone user’s application usage patterns. Based on the application usage models, we have implemented an app-launching experience optimization technique which tries to minimize user-perceived delays, extra energy consumption, and state loss when a user launches apps. Our experimental results on the Nexus S Android reference phones show that our proposed optimization technique can avoid unnecessary application restarts by up to 78.4% over the default LRU-based policy of the Android platform. Henceforth, the proliferation of Smart phones and the Mobile Internet is finally beginning to have an impact on the way that people research and book their holidays. Though there are several Apps in the market which has enabled people to book flights and hotels on these several smart devices, but there has been scepticism about people that they actually book their next holiday on a mobile phone or other devices, where the size of screen is being seen as the main hurdle for such a high priced purchase. [1] ApiHolidays (2011) [Online] Available at: http://www.appiholidays.com/articles/mobile-holiday-bookings/ [Accessed 20 Jan, 2014] I chose this topic because nowadays technology is ruling the world and from work to leisure; people approach smart phones, mobiles and iPads. It is very obvious that in today’s busy world people do look for leisure activities. Therefore, I decided to choose this topic because I myself have a keen interest in holidays and look for leisure activities. I intend to create an App for people to book their dream holidays on all the available smart devices. My App would be named as “Dream Holidays” and would be absolutely free of charge. Technology

...mp3 players, laptops and even televisions now. The biggest advances that always seem to hold the attention of people in this day and age are cell phones. These devices once used just for communicating now have the same technology as most computers and even are superior to them in many ways. The biggest feature that contributes to the cell phones popularity are little programs called applications also known as "apps". Applications are essentially pieces of software that directly benefit the user and broaden the functionality of your mobile phone, in essence they are exactly the same as the computer programs that you use on a PC. For example, if you have a PC, you probably have programs such as Microsoft Word, Paint, and Notepad; mobile phone apps work in the same way these do. Apps can help with business, your social life, travel, communication and much more. There are apps to monitor your expenses, identify flowers and give you first aid advice, as well as full documentation suites that let you view and edit spreadsheets and Word documents. As I'm sure you inferred apps in short can make completing everyday tasks far easier solely because of the convenience of being able to look something up right there and then, learn how to do something with the click of a button, find directions to your friend's house who lives in what seems like a labyrinth of a town and also just a good way to pass time when you have it. Now imagine instead of having to reach into your pocket for your cell...
