...Vu Thu Phuong Student ID: 30110714 Topic: The Impact of Tourism on Environment In recent years, the tourism industry is considered as an important economic sector in many countries around the world, including Vietnam. Although tourism industry brings tremendous benefits to a country’s development, the impact of tourism on natural habitat cannot be denied. In this essay, I will discuss both positive and negative impact of tourism on our environment and suggest idea to tackle with these issues. On the one hand, tourism brings a lot of advantages. Firstly from the environmental perspective, tourism activities generate good results for the rational use and optimal protection of natural resources. Moreover, tourism contributes positively to the conservation of national parks, natural reserves, forests and the protection of historic monuments systems, architectural art. Thanks to the tourism industry, the level of biodiversity have been increased considerably. In addition, tourism contributes actively to the development of the remodeling urban landscape. For instance, tourism improves the environment for both visitors and local residents by increasing public facilities, road information. Secondly from a personal perspective, tourism is a most popular leisure activity for everyone who wants to relax and explore a new place. Also, tourism broadens their horizons and opened minds by exposing them to different cultures and customs. Besides from economical perspective, tourism...

...more; whether it is valuable resources, new technology, or simply having a bigger house than your neighbor we Americans would do anything to achieve this excessive lifestyle. However, a problem arises when one realizes the fact that we are living in a world of unlimited wants but also chasing a scarce amount of goods. Can everyone live like we Americans do? Can the earth handle a cumulative carbon footprint as big as the one that I leave behind everyday? These are the questions that others should ask themselves because the impact we leave behind is greater than you would think. After keeping a detailed log of my weekly activities I have come to realize that not every action of mine has a negative impact on the earth. Throughout this past week I have narrowed my focus to three main behaviors that I think are crucial factors in determining my carbon footprint: waste production, food consumption, and means of transportation. Given my current living environment on campus paired with being a full-time student here at the university I thought these three daily activities would give me the most accurate results. In regards to my waste production I realized that I recycle a lot when I am in a university building but when I get home I do not recycle at all. I believe the reason for this is accessibility; there are recycling bins everywhere you look in the Pappajohn Business building, which encourages me to recycle any material I can. However when I get home anything I throw away goes...

...Human Impacts on the Environment: Ocean Acidification Ecological human effects on the planet are now about 40% greater than the planet can support in a sustainable fashion (Grossman, 2010). One of the many areas with significant damage is the marine biosphere. Ocean acidification is a great threat to marine and subsequently human life. The pH level in the ocean has been a relatively constant 8.15 to 8.25 and organisms have evolved under these circumstances for over 50 million years. However since the end of the Industrial Revolution, worldwide burning of fossil fuels and human innovations such as concrete manufacture have resulted in the release of more than 440 billion metric tonnes of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Excess carbon dioxide from the atmosphere is dissolved in seawater which causes the concentration of hydrogen ions to increase. Approximately half of the carbon dioxide produced by fossil fuels is absorbed by the ocean. Were this not the case, climate change would be far worse. The term ocean acidification pertains to the lowering of the ocean’s pH. As carbon dioxide dissolves in water it forms carbonic acid, and as more and more is assimilated the pH decreases, and the seawater becomes less alkaline. Consequently the hydrogen ions react with carbonate ions in the water, forming bicarbonate. This causes the carbonate ion numbers to be greatly reduced, which in turn has a substantial effect upon the many species that take in carbonate from the water...

...Impact of Organizational Environment The Federal government has become more involved in response and recovery from major disasters. With the just recent disaster of Hurricane Sandy that devastated north east portion of the United States, specifically New York and New Jersey; has called for the services of emergency response units for response. Even to this day, thousands of people are without electricity and heat in their homes; others are homeless because their homes were destroyed by the wind, fire, and the Atlantic Ocean. Mitigation and having a Contingency Plan is important to help prevent high numbers of loss of life. When Hurricane Sandy came through, flooding and powerful waves slammed into homes and businesses, flooding areas of communities; which prevented fire departments from extinguishing fires that broke out. Local and national news were able to warn people ahead of time of the hurricane that was approaching; in which has probably saved thousands of lives. However, one of the four phases of Emergency Management has yet to be implemented effectively; Recovery. With so many homes and business obliterated, thousands of people displaced and homeless; they are looking for help, support, and answers from the federal government. Utility companies are feverishly working to reinstate electricity to the homes and businesses that were not destroyed; but recovery is going to be a long process and funding will have to be required in order to support the communities...

...RUNNING HEAD: Impacts of Human Behavior on the Environment 1 Impacts of Human Behavior on the Environment Psy 460 Impacts of Human Behavior on the Environment 2 Environmental psychology is the study of the link between human behavior, the direct impact on the environment, and the psychology of humans. The physical or manmade environment such as building houses or workplaces, and natural environments in nature, are all important parts of environmental psychology. The study that includes environmental psychology is diverse and requires more studies to determine what changes need to be made. Modern technology such as, the development of chemicals, manufacturing plants, population increases, mining and mining processes and other human activities have brought many issues and concerns about the environment. Some of the environmental issues that are impacting our environment negatively are: global warming, climate changes, more intense adverse weather such as stronger hurricanes and tornadoes, while other areas have drought and rainy conditions (Steg, 2013). Technology can create negative impacts to the environment by humans attempting to improve on nature in areas where nature should be left alone. Controlling nature, for example, by building dams over rivers to generate electricity has adverse effects on fish and other water species. The oil and chemicals that are used...

...the past, the nursing profession has relied on the authority of educators, sociologists, psychologists, physiologists and anthropologists to provide answers to nursing problems. The purpose of this paper is to critically analyze a clinical-related practical concern that will impact the nursing professional environment. The United States is lagging behind other nations of the world in fully integrating midwifery into its health care system. “While midwives deliver only 6% of the approximately 220,000 babies in the United States each year, midwives in other countries attend up to 80% of their countries births.” (Bowers, 2000). In our ever-changing fast paced health care system, many woman feel that they receive little personnel attention during pregnancy and childbirth from their healthcare provider. Despite the high quality of care that midwives provide to expectant mothers, American women have few opportunities to use the service of midwives. Barriers to Midwifery care in the United States include physician opposition, public perception as substandard care, state and federal regulations, lacking of training programs, lack of acceptance among third-party payers and our political and economic environment However, midwifery has gained a foothold in the nursing profession. Their acceptance has coincided with the rise of nursing professionalism as it develops a scientific foundation for clinical practice. The middle range nursing theory known as health promotion provides a sound...

...Bicycling: impact on the environment and humans More than 40% of the public are convinced that humans are the cause of global warming. “According to the U.S. Forest Service, forests in the United States alone sequester some 827 million tons of carbon dioxide annually, nearly 10 percent of the country’s CO2 emissions.” (Beavan 49) The leading cause of global warming is CO2 emissions produced by humans through transportation. In order to avoid this problem riding vehicles that do not produce any CO2 emissions like bicycling would benefit the globe as a whole. Bicycling could reduce harm to the environment and improve individual’s quality of life. Choosing transportation like bicycling can reduce the harm that it brings to the environment. One benefit of bicycling is the reduction of CO2 emission, which causes global warming. Transportation with a lot of carbon release causes the air quality to go bad. This causes climate changes around the world for example it warms the atmosphere causing the ice to melt in the artic, which then effects the animals that live in that environment. Another benefit is it enables more energy to be conserved. Choosing transportation with less pollution such as a bicycle can reduce the manufacturing of vehicles that cause more pollution like a car; this reduces so much energy such as electricity that is being used by the factories to manufacture these products. Also it saves materials like the metals and plastics that are used for production of vehicles...

...Changing Healthcare Environment and its Impact on Management The article that I chose speaks to the role of e-health and the ever changing environment of healthcare. The article, written by Jeffrey Harrison and Angela Lee, defines e-health as an all-encompassing term for the combined use of electronic information and communication technology in the health sector (Harrison & Lee, 2006). They charge that the role of the Internet in health care information access and delivery is rapidly increasing. They state that 86% of adults with Internet access have used it for health-related information and health inquiries represent 37% of their total Internet usage. The authors conclude that the speed at which new technologies and treatments are being developed means that many clinical providers will and are dependent on the Internet to gain some of the most current information on clinical practice recommendations. As a result, the use of the Internet has the probability to improve health care decision making, enhance health management, and produce better patient outcomes (Harrison & Lee, 2006). There are many factors that are contributing to the ever changing field of health care. The biggest factor today is the Affordable Care Act. This act was signed into law on March 23, 2010. This act changed the face of health care as we know it. It put the power in the hands of the consumers and forces other parties to be transparent in their dealings with a healthcare consumer. Additionally...

...ABYSSALPLAINS The Abyssal Plain is not a very friendly environment, there is little to no food, extremely low temperatures, crushing pressure, and a complete lack of light, but life always finds a way. This harsh and unique environment is home to some equally as unique animals. Since sunlight cannot penetrate that far down into the ocean, there are no plants to be found, and the haniat has a very simple food chain, you either eat marine snow, or eat anything else that moves. Abyssal plains are found in almost every ocean, and are relatively the same throughout, the ocean floor is usually flat and covered in sand, but in places where there is tectonic activity, there can be underwater mountains and heat vents that can heat up the water to over 750 degrees Fahrenheit. However, the water does not boil around these vents due to the extreme pressure....

...of this paper is to assess the impact of globalization on the Caribbean business environment. Much has been written about globalization which is more accurately viewed as a process of change rather that an event which has already occurred. The impact of globalization on any environment can be both positive and negative and can be described as the enablers or the constraints which affect the decisions made by leaders, both government and business. It also refers to the way these choices affect the lives of all people. Scholars David Held, Anthony McGrew, David Goldblatt and Jonathan Perraton developed a general framework for understanding the process and characteristics of globalization. The authors said that, “in its simplest sense globalization refers to the widening, deepening and speeding up of global interconnectedness. They also suggest that the process of Globalization does not only have one kind of impact or outcome but four different types namely Decisional, Institutional, Distributive and Structural: • Decisional impact. How does globalizing processes affect how individuals, corporations, organizations and governments make decisions? • Institutional impact. How does globalization change the agendas of organizations and individuals, structure their choices and influence their preferences? • Distributive impact. How does globalization change the way wealth and power are distributed within and among countries? • Structural impact. How does globalization structure...

...Executive Summary Costco is one of the most profitable retail stores in the United States at the moment. This is in spite of the prevailing tough global economic times and stiff competition from stores such as Wal-Mart and Target. Costco, a members’ wholesale retail store, was founded in 1983 in Washington by Jeffrey Brotman, who serves as the current Chairman of the board of directors and James Sinegal, the current company president. Costco has not been spared by the current global economic conditions. They have affected it in a number of ways that have made the company’s management respond in a manner that is meant to ensure that the business not only survives but grows even stronger. First, Costco has taken strong measures to keep enough employee numbers. Customers are better served by employees who are in good health. Employees are not going to be in good health if they work long hours and cannot visit a doctor when sick. Costco employees work normal hours since there are enough employees to serve the company’s customers. While other stores such as Wal-Mart have seen it fit to downsize their workforces, Costco has moved to ensure that employees are of the right numbers all over its stores within and without the United States. Secondly, the current tough global economic conditions have driven Costco into extending good salaries to its employees. The good compensation has ensured that employees are well motivated and ready to serve customers in a better manner. As counter...
