...Although mushrooms have at one time been used as a staple food in some parts of Russia and South America, and they have been served as the main dish during mushroom seasons in Africa, they are generally considered only as an ingredient or complement to various dishes-rather than as a daily vegetable. However, mushrooms have been and will be increasing in importance as a source of food because they have a pleasing flavor, fine texture, adequate protein content (Crisan and Sands 1978), and health benefits (Mori 1974). The demand for mushrooms in some industrialized countries has increased threefold during the period 1965-1975 (Delcaire 1978). As people become wealthier, their consumption of mush-rooms increases. In 1977, the total per capita consumption of Agaricus mush-rooms in West Germany was about 12 times that of the world average. It is hoped that in the near future mushrooms can be cultivated widely just as other common vegetables are. WHAT ARE MUSHROOMS? ...Chapter 1: BUSINESS CONCEPT A) Business Name The mushroom culture is already gaining its popularity in Pangasinan, Philippines, specifically in Urdaneta City. As a vegetable, it is being added as one of the ingredients in some of Pangasinan delicacies. However, due to lack of planting materials and knowledge, the production of mushrooms is still limited. With a lot of suggestions about the name of the business, the researchers have decided as a group to use MousseronFarm. The word mushroom originated from a Late Latin word mussirio which means "of obscure origin"then was later adopted as an Old French word mousseron from the root word mousse which means "moss". From that Old French word, the name of the business was derived. A mushroom is defined as a macrofungus with a distinctive fruiting body. The macrofungi have fruiting bodies large enough to be seen with the naked eye and to be picked up by hand (Chang and Miles, 1992). In a narrow sense, the word mushroom also refers only to the fruitbody.Mushrooms used to be classified into the Kingdom Plantae, but now they belong to the Kingdom Fungi due tounique fungal characteristics which draw a clear line from animals or plants. Unlike green plants, mushrooms areheterotrophs. Not having chlorophyll, they cannot generate nutrients by photosynthesis, but take nutrients from outer sources. B) Business Offering 1) Properties “Mushrooms are small living organisms that look like umbrellas. They are not plants...

...Introduction Mushroom is a large reproductive structure of edible fungi, which is the most popular nutritious, delicious and medicinal vegetable in the world. It is now one of the promising concepts for crop diversification in Bangladesh. The climatic condition of Bangladesh is completely suitable for mushroom cultivation. It does not require any cultivable land. It can grow in room by racking vertically. Therefore, its yield as well as benefit per unit area is higher than any other vegetable in our country. It requires short time, little capital and easy technique for cultivation. This is why all types of people like male and female, youth and old even children and disabled can easily participate in its cultivation. Therefore, it can generate huge scope of employment opportunities for unemployed people. The raw materials for mushroom cultivation like sawdust, paddy straw, wheat straw, sugar can baggage, waste paper, used cotton, dervishes etc are very cheap and available in our country and no materials are required to import from abroad for its cultivation. Moreover, no chemical is necessary for its cultivation, therefore it is completely organic and eco-friendly. Used substrate of mushroom cultivation is one of the best sources of organic matter in the soil. Its cultivation may be “a lifeboat” for survival of the landless people who do not have any source other than their houses and own labor. ...Assignment : Yeast and it’s Phyllum Yeast is naturally growing fungi that grows as a single cell, producing daughter cells either through budding (budding yeast) or by binary fission. They differ from most fungi as most fungi grow as a threadlike hyphae. Yeast is used in baking purpose or fermentation where it helps the dough or the grapes to release carbon dioxide and alcohol. Yeast grows mostly in moist environments where there is a good supply of nutrients such as carbohydrates and amino acids. For this reason they are commonly found on the surface of the leaves and fruit surface or on the tip of the roots. (Deacon) There are many different types of yeast, but the most common ones are the, Saccharomyces also known as the budding yeast which is used in bread making. Cryptococcus species are another type of yeast found commonly on the leaf surface. There are similar yeast, but with different species names are used for the production of alcoholic drinks. (Deacon) Yeast is very harmful to humans and plants equal. One example is the C. neoformans which occurs 7-8 percent of AIDS patients in the USA. The capsule that is exhibited by the yeast can sometimes prevent the cells from being recognized and engulfed by the white blood cells. The C. neoformans grows specially in old bird droppings in the cities. The most common symptoms are lung infection, mild pneumonia, depending on the immunity of the body. The other type of yeast that stays in the mucosal membranes of the humans...

Mushroom poisoning is a relatively rare cause of acute liver failure (ALF). The present paper analyzes the pathogenesis, clinical features, prognostic indicators, and therapeutic strategies of ALF secondary to ingestion of Amanita phalloides, which represents the most common and deadly cause of mushroom poisoning. Liver damage from Amanita phalloides is related to the amanitins, powerful toxins that inhibit RNA polymerase II resulting in a deficient protein synthesis and cell necrosis. After an asymptomatic lag phase, the clinical picture is characterized by gastrointestinal symptoms, followed by the liver and kidney involvement. Amatoxin poisoning may progress into ALF and eventually death if liver transplantation is not performed. The mortality rate after Amanita phalloides poisoning ranges from 10 to 20%. The management of amatoxin poisoning consists of...

...Not All Fungi are the Same Jason Tipton Excelsior College Not All Fungi are the Same Fungi have many different characteristics than those of bacteria. Most fungi can live and survive in an environment that can be hostile to most bacteria’s (Tortora,Funke & Case 2013). Even though a fungus is so much different from bacteria, there are many types of fungi that are different from eachother. Some examples of this are the differnces in the three fungi, Zygomycota, Ascomycota, and Basidiomycota. Some of the differences they may have can include: each ones reproduction methods, means of obtaining nutrients, and their importance to humans. Zygomycota is known as an conjunction fungi, and they are saprophytic molds that include an coenocytic hyphae ( Tortora,Funke & Case 2013). There are approximately 1050 species known that are Zygomycota and they are mostlyare found living in soil or on decaying plant. An example of a form of the zygomycota fungi is Rhizopus, which is known as the common black mold found in or on bread. The sexual spore of a zygomycota is called a zygospore, and it is eclosed in a wall and is considered both sexual and asexual. Before germination the spore is in a dormant state. There are two types of dormancy are the exogenous and endogenous. Zygomycota are said to be the most ecologically diverse group of fungi, functioning as saprophytes on substrates such as fruit, soil, and dung( James and O’Donnell 2004). Ascomycota is known as a sac fungi...

They are strictly a wholesale organization; there is no retail service. Their building is comprised of their administrative offices, foundry, shipping and receiving, raw materials and finished product storage, and manufacturing. The plant is located directly behind the administrative offices in a building that is outdated and no longer meets US safety and environmental standards. In this case study, I will discuss possibilities to improve Albatross Anchor’s competitiveness, and determine if a new process will help to reduce costs. Background Wood is a hard, fibrous structural tissue found in the stems and roots of trees and other woody plants. It has been used for thousands of years for both fuel and as a construction material. It is an organic material, a natural composite of cellulose fibers (which are strong in tension) embedded in a matrix of lignin which resists compression. Wood is sometimes defined as only the secondary xylem in the stems of trees, or it is defined more broadly to include the same type of tissue elsewhere such as in the roots of trees or shrubs. In a living tree it performs a support function, enabling woody plants to grow large or to stand up by them. It also mediates the transfer of water and nutrients to the...
