Gay marriage(LGBTQIA)
The constitution guarantees that we have a right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. However, when people say that same sex couples can not be together, or get married, it is discrimination and they are being deprived of their constitutional rights. Just because someone is gay, transgender, gender non conformant, more than one gender, or not sexually attracted to anyone, also known as LGBTQIA, does not make them any less of a human then everyone else on this planet.
A “traditional marriage” used to be between a man and a woman, however as times have changed it is a looser term, which should now include same sex marriage. Marriage is a bond between two people who love each other, if those two people just so happen to be of the same sex why should we punish them by not allowing them to marry. As of right now many same sex couples are getting civil unions, or domestic partnerships, in order to recive recognition of their marriage gay marriage would have to be legalized. Partnerships are union’s marriages are recognized by the state, therefore all same sex couples would not receive any of the privileges of married couples. If gay marriage is legalized then all same sex couples receive protection, federal and or state acknowledgement, they have a right to their partner’s insurance as well as hospital visitations. However they are not able to file for joint tax returns nor are they eligible for the tax breaks married couples have without gay marriage rights being passed. 25.7 percent of same sex couples state that they are in a civil union, or a domestic partnership.
Some people may argue that marriage should only be between a man and a woman because that is the “traditional way” and the way of the bible. Others would argue that marriage is recognized internationally as a human right for all
