Perceived Cannibalization Related to Retail Cross Channelization

...This presumed cross channel cannibalization should be based on a more empirical analysis that promotes informed decisions. An examination of related existing literature and research will be utilized to present a solution to the following problem: anticipated assumptions, concerns and fears are impacting organizations utilization of the Internet for fear of cross channel cannibalization. The proposed solution presented combines several established quantifiable equations and methods, producing a standardized method of analysis regarding the impact of online sales. This brief paper contends that online sales pose no immediate cannibalization of tradition sales, making these concerns relatively baseless. Problem Overview The phenomenon of concurrent channels being provided by the same company is fairly new, but the emergence of the Internet as an enduring market necessitates the adaption of online retail in order to remain competitive [1][3]. Late entrants into this market are apprehensive about the Internet’s bipolar nature, since it has already demonstrated its ability to catalyze both opportunities and threats [5]. The dot.com bust of the 1990s increased many retailers’ hesitance in expanding their operations to utilize the Internet. Their fears appear to be strongly routed by the notion that their physical store sales and profits would be cannibalized by an online retail offering [1]. Falk et al [3] contend that “entrenched channels [view] the Internet channel as unwelcome competition...

Marketing Mix

...Business Diploma BSBMKG514A Implement and Monitor Marketing Activities Assessment 2 By Sara Lawson August 2014 Task 1 * Interdependent Strategies The marketing mix is a business tool used in marketing and by marketers. The marketing mix is often crucial when determining a product or brand's offer, and is often associated with the four P's: price, product, promotion, and place. In service marketing, so my take on the key words “interdependent strategies” would be referring to the different strategies that are in place for each stage or section of the marketing mix such as price, product promotion and place. An example of this is there would be an interdependent strategy in place to determine the price of a product and value where there would also be a totally different strategy in place for the promotion side of the marketing mix, although the strategies are all “interdependent “ they do all contribute to each other area of the overall strategy. * The needs of a particular target group “the needs of a particular target group” my understanding of the meaning of this phrase or statement is that each are of the marketing mix such as the price is aimed at a particular target group or target market that which together means that each interdependent strategy is in place to meet the needs of the target groups the company has aimed to produce the product for consumers. * Consistent with the resources and capabilities of the organisation The statement...

Marketing Research

...Today, if a company want to launch a new product line and push new product into the market, they need to spend a great deal of time and money trying to gather and collect market related information by measuring and analyzing criteria like product target markets, distribution channels, excited competitors, consuming behavior and selling environments. Before we push our product into the market, we need to do some before-hand work that define research problems and objectives. Since our company is a successful high-end adult clothing and accessories retailer, we never have any market’s records relating to customer motivations, purchase behavior, supplier information, designing trend, pricing strategy, distribution channels. I think we need to look into above-mentioned field, do some attempts to figure out what possible help would the market possible tell us, and come up a definitive conclusion. There are some following issues I think the marketing research needs to explore. The first issue is the customer motivations. That means we need to attempt to imagine customer’s consuming mood, to uncover the reason why they buy children’s clothes. Customer motivations are critically important to our research. Are the consumers self-motivated or under driving force? Does the market have good enough products that satisfied clients? Should we adapt existing products? If not, what kind of product will perfectly appeal to our potential consumers. Please keep in mind, we never design...

Marketing Mix

...of the marketing mix. It will also discuss further in detail the four P's of the marketing mix, as well as, show the relation of the marketing mix to a product offered by Verizon Communications.  The History of the Marketing Mix and the Four P's  The term "marketing mix" has been dated to originate sometime in the late 1940's. Neil H. Borden, a teacher at the time, began using the term after James Culliton had described the marketing manager as a "mixer of ingredients". The term "marketing mix" gained its popularity in 1964 when Borden published his article, The Concept of the Marketing Mix. Borden's original marketing mix included product planning, pricing, branding, distribution channels, personal selling, advertising, promotions, packaging, display, servicing, physical handling, and fact finding and analysis. The ingredients of Borden's original marketing mix were later regrouped by E. Jerome McCarthy into what is known today as the 4 P's of marketing: Product, Price, Place, and Promotion (NetMBA, 2006).  The product area is the emphasis in developing the right product or service for the target market. In the case of physical products, it also refers to any services or conveniences that are part of the offering (quickmba, 2004). In the product area of the marketing mix there are certain strategy decision areas that will need to be addressed. A company needs to decide what...
