I had interviewed a former manager and owner of a sewing shop called Alterations and her name was Norayda Bautista. It was a great learning experience by getting to know the manager’s duties and perspectives. Being a manager requires a lot of work, skills, and determination. The first question asked on this interview was about their day-to-day duties. Bautista’s daily tasks were to assign loads of work and give instructions to get things done in time. She signed a subcontract with a clothing company and she received orders from them to sew clothing and it would be picked up on a certain day of the week. Besides assigning work and giving instructions, she also worked on scheduling employees. I also asked her what goals she and her team members had set. Bautista had set a quota to just finish all of their work by the end of the week. Their tasks depended on what their contractor from the subcontract has asked for them to sew and alter. Bautista’s strategy to achieve the goal was to teach her employees how to work and keep them on track to get work done faster. ...Assignment:1 Written Reflection on Our Interview After conducting my interview, I can say that I walked away from this experience with many a lesson learned. The first lesson that I learned was that after choosing a person to interview, then asking that person, most will jump on the defensive and ask “about what”. This is due to the fact that most people are usually pressed for time. They initially want to know how long this process will take without ever stopping to realize that the length of most interviews is dependent upon how long it takes for the interviewee to answer the questions that are asked. Another reason is because most will be curious about the nature of the interview, meaning what questions will be asked. This response I received tells me that people in general do not like discussing certain subjects. Some of these subjects include race, religion, and politics. These two topics are considered to be in the “No Go Zone” of interviews based entirely on their nature to insight the greatest of arguments. ...My strongest impression of CityU admission interview was the group interview as such interview is still very rare among business school. But end up I found out what I enjoyed most was the group interview session. Every applicant can enter the discussion with proper mind-set and effectively showcase every applicant’s temperament and character. From discussion until we reached a consensus within a certain time limit, everyone has to act with thoughtfulness and diplomacy. This experience provides me practical experience of group discussion in future business school class. I was also impressed by the school’s practical learning approach. To me the opportunity to vet my ideas through the Mentorship Program and Residential Trip, gaining the critique of industry experts, is unprecedented. I would take that critical feedback, bolster my ides and then apply to my career path. I want to be truly immersed in my MBA experience, academically and socially, and CityU offers me vast opportunities to bond with like-minded students. ...This month is very short, but we have made some great strides as a group. I have seen our community grow a lot since we left for break. The girls are happy to be back in the house and with each other. We have only been back on campus for a couple of days, but I am optimistic about the semester. Nicole just returned from being abroad last semester, so we have been filling her in on all sorts of information. She is handling all the information being thrown at her. I am very excited to work with, she is very organized and has some great ideas for the 2016 year. She has also planned our Exec Retreat that will take place at Kristen’s place in February.Austin is doing a great job. She is staying on top of all the things she may encounter over the next year. Since the education department is quite large, she has been trying to lay the ground work for each position, so that they can have a smooth transition. We have a sisterhood planned for next week!
