...Sambasiva Rao Kandula Introduction Samsung is a global conglomerate that operates in the “White Goods” market or the market for consumer appliances and gadgets. The company that is a South Korean family owned business has global aspirations and as the recent expansion into newer markets has shown, Samsung is not content with operating in some markets in the world but instead, wants to cover as many countries as possible. Therefore, the focus of this article is on the external environmental drivers of Samsung’s strategy. Political In most of the markets where Samsung operates, the political environment is conducive to its operations and though there are minor irritants in some of the foreign markets like India, overall Samsung can be said to be operating in markets where the political factors are benign. However, in recent months, it has faced significant political headwinds in its home country of South Korea because of the country’s tensions with North Korea wherein the company has had to take into account not only the political instability but also the threat of war breaking out in the Korean Peninsula. Apart from this, Samsung faces political pressures in many African and Latin American countries where the political environment is unstable and prone to frequent changes in the governing structures. Of course, this is not yet a major cause for worry as the company has more or less factored the political instability into its strategic calculations. Economic This dimension is...

...Growth Of Micromax Introduction Micromax was incorporated as Micromax Informatics Ltd. on 29 March 2000. It started selling mobile telephones in 2008, focusing on low pricing to compete with international brands. Micromax's co-founder Rahul Sharma once saw a public call office being powered by a truck battery because of frequent power cuts in its locale. It prompted him to launch a feature telephone with an extended battery life. Micromax launched X1i, its first telephone with a month-long battery back-up. In 2014, Micromax's sales exceeded those of Samsung to become the mobile telephone manufacturer shipping the most telephones in one quarter in India. On 24 January 2014, Micromax became the first Indian mobile company to start sales in Russia. The Achievement Traditionally, the dominant mobile phone companies in India have been foreign giants—be it Nokia Oyj, Samsung Electronics Co., BlackBerry Ltd or Sony Corp. But through sustained marketing efforts and the introduction of products at lower price points but with the same specifications and contemporary design that their global counterparts offer, Indian handset makers have been steadily gaining market share. The forerunner among them is Micromax Informatics Ltd, which according to latest International Data Corp. (IDC) data had a 22% share of the Indian mobile handset market, second only to Samsung, which had a 26% share, and much ahead of other foreign competitors like Nokia, Sony and BlackBerry. The Strategy: A large...

...slump with neighbouring states by linking the German key rivers with the Rhine, Main and Danube. The states were also linked with the building off 2,800km of new road. “Prussia’s policy was deliberately aggressive and designed to enrich itself” this led to a trade war which Prussia soon won, and by 1834 rival trade zones joined with the customs union to create the single Zollverein. It can be argued that this brought Germany close to unification as it gave Prussia, the only nation capable of overcoming Austria’s opposition to unification economic power. The Zollverein also brought Germany closer to unification as it included every German state but Hannover, Oldenburg, Mecklenburg, Hanseatic towns and Austria were not members. Tis isolated Austria and was a factor in their gradual economic decline and eventual loss of power, this brought German closer to unification as it Austria who were the main opponents of unification, if their power was reduced and Prussia’s was increased...

...INT1Task 3 An Investigation of Averaged Radiation and the Properties of CO2 Abstract The methodology used when calculating the effective temperature of rotating planetary bodies treats the average input over an entire rotation as a valid approximation of the overall energy received. The resulting temperature calculations are assumed to be accurate enough to be used as working inputs for climatological models or the theories they are derived from. Research and examination of radiation laws raises doubts about the viability of such averaged inputs, and this reasoning is used to inform and test a hypothesis. Background The purpose of this paper is not to go into a full derivation of the physics behind the absorption and emission of electromagnetic radiation. Planck, Stefan, Boltzmann, Einstein, and Wien were all better suited to such an examination, and the experimental apparatus needed to plumb the realms of quantum physics further is not easily acquired. The work of Stefan and Boltzmann is accepted herein as a valid description of the ideal case where emissivity is equal to unity, also known as a black body. The discovery in 1905 by Einstein[1] that emission spectra are quantized is not his most famous finding, of course, however it is the one for which he received a Nobel Prize. While his work with other scientists in Brussels is not as well known, one of his fellow Nobel Laureates Max Planck initially rejected, but was later convinced by Einstein who had expanded...

Such changes have led to organizational restructurings and implied rethinking of leadership functions and practices. Changing organizational structures, from traditional hierarchical towards lower and more flexible ones, have made leaders organize work in new ways. Teams account for one new way of organizing work and reaching organizational goals. Likewise, globalized markets have made leaders search for new solutions to meet the needs of customers. In consequence, organizations strive for competitive advantages through downsizing, subcontracting, joint ventures, strategic alliances, and other collaborative and network-based alternatives which are typically facilitated by virtual teams. Virtual teams are geographically and organizationally dispersed teams that function over time zones. Due to such dispersion, physical contact in virtual teams is reduced or lacking altogether which means that collaboration is enabled by IT-solutions...

...we still need to cut off the King’s head,1 as we are still entrenched in the philosophical and constitutional language of the 19th century.2 But recently, with European integration and globalisation, change has also occurred in the traditional concepts of public law such as “state” or “constitution”. The book edited by Bamforth and Leyland is about this change over the last thirty years or so.3 “Public Law in a Multi-Layered Constitution” is a significant contribution to a better understanding of how public law is transformed, in Great Britain and elsewhere. The title of the book as well as its introduction (pp. 1-26) state that its central theme is the transformation of the British constitution into a “multi-layered constitution.” This is meant to refer to a constitution that “contains multiple, but inter-connected and sometimes overlapping European and national layers”,4 where “power (both legislative and political) has been spread away from the Westminister Parliament, both ‘upwards’ to the European Union and ‘downwards’ to the devolved assemblies.”5 The editors’ claim is that this restructuring of the constitutional architecture of the United Kingdom is occurring while there is also a rebalancing of the roles of the courts and parliament in holding the executive accountable, an alteration of government by the process of privatisation,...
