...This proposal addresses the issues of guanxi neglect at Chinese based hotel Roaring Dragon Hotel (RDH), a state owned enterprise that was taken over by an International management called Hotel International (HI) to arrest the declining resources of the RDH and how the employees faced the cross culture difference trying to adapt to the new modern practices set by HI. Initially RDH was a guanxi based hotel where social connections were important which led to poor efficiency in its business and when HI took over RDH to modernize the hotel, employees faced a lot of resentment due to new cultural adoptions, communication differences and redundancy. HI oversaw why guanxi was very important in that area and success in any business lies in appreciating the differences of both cultures and perform business accordingly. This case is a perfect example of how not to conduct International business in guanxi based organizations. Introduction The Roaring Dragon Hotel (RDH) is a state owned enterprise which started in 1950s. It mainly conducted business based on guanxi until the Provincial government felt that the Hotel’s potential was not used properly and the management conducted business carelessly. So, the government decided to have an International Management company take over RDH to change the organizational culture prevailing at RDH and to increase the profits of the hotel or improve the quality of service that other competitors provided and also maximize the performance of the employees...

...In this essay, I am going to discuss the staff management problem Arthur Reed faces every summer. Arthur Reed, a supervisor at the Blue Grocery Stores, has an issue with hiring temporary workers in sufficient numbers to cover the sick and vacationing workers for the summer months. As warehouse supervisor in charge of two shifts on the shipping dock, Arthur usually manages to run the shifts smoothly every year except in the summer months. During the summer months, Arthur faces a shortage of staff when most of his senior staff call in sick or take vacation. Arthur runs into this problem every summer and does not look forward to the frustration of trying to hire sufficient temporary workers this summer. Although Arthur has earned the respect within the industry and has 20 years experience in the grocery industry, when it comes to dealing with staff shortage, Arthur does not know how to manage the problem. If Arthur knows he will faces this problem yearly, then why does he not plan ahead to avoid the frustration? Perhaps Arthur is not managing his staff as well as he can because he is lacking in supervisory skills; otherwise, he would not have run into this problem every summer. What are the problems? Staff management and on-call workers are the problems. In my opinion, Arthur is having a problem managing his senior staff because he is not communicating with them effectively regarding scheduling vacation and call-in sick days. The reason he keeps having the same problem every...

...Business and Management Ethical Issues in Management Ethical Issues in Management The tasks of a supervisor go far beyond management. In fact, supervisors have to make vital decisions all the time that affect their employees, and possibly the business depending on the situation. Managers take part in hiring, performance, evaluation, discipline, and termination. They are also involved in any circumstance that pertains to harassment and diversity, and they must make a conscious effort to set a good example for their employees. The following paper will focus primarily on termination; describe the moral and ethical issues faced by managers dealing with termination; explain how relationships between social issues and ethically responsible management practices apply to termination; provide a workplace example of an ethical dilemma involving termination. Termination In the case of termination, performance evaluations, verbal and written warnings can be moral issues as they all entail truthfulness, evenhandedness, and the self-respect of the individual. Managers play a critical role in increasing engagement and building an ethical way of life for the most part sensible issues of company ethics. ...Writing Essays 1. Getting started The worst part about writing an essay can be starting the process. Before you rush into doing a pile of reading, you need to be very clear what your essay is about and what you are actually being asked to do. Typical essay questions: a) How do organizations typically manage stress? Critically evaluate the evidence for the effectiveness of stress management. b) Critically assess the extent to which a Conceptual Framework may guide the accounting standard-setting process. c) Identify and analyse significant developments in technology impacting on IMC. Discuss how such developments might affect international marketers and notions of the audience. The important thing to do when you approach an essay is carefully unpacking the essay question. For example, in question (a) above, you are being asked to do two things. First, to describe how organizations manage stress, and then to examine the evidence regarding the effectiveness of stress management. The first part of the essay, therefore, will be fairly descriptive, and you will be looking to read books and journal articles that discuss the ways that organizations manage stress. Don’t rely too heavily on one book or one particular journal article. Try to read as widely possible and make notes as you do so (see handout on reading and note-taking). The second part of the essay is rather more difficult, and it is here that many students fall down and lose marks. The key...
