Stiles: the Living Legend
In Kansas City, Missouri, on December 21, 1978, a legend was born to Pat and Pam Stiles and her name was, Jacqueline Marie Stiles. Jackie was the oldest of 4 children and was to be much more than everyone was expecting. Just a few years after Jackie was born, they moved to the small town of Claflin, Kansas. There were twin boys that lived several doors down from Jackie and her family. Once Jackie grew to be a little more mobile, she would watch them play basketball in their driveway. Growing up in a basketball home due to her dad being the Athletic Director and a basketball coach at Claflin High School, Jackie knew the game. She soon started playing basketball with her neighbors which included getting her shot blocked repeatedly. But that didn’t put a damper on Jackie’s spirits, because she soon learned how to shoot an unblockable shot. Averaging 38.5 points that season, she was closing in on the high school all-time scoring record. Her senior year was one for the books, averaging 46.4 points a game and scoring 71 points in the game against Claflin High School’s rival school. After that season she became the all-time leading scorer in high school for girls and boys, placing herself at tenth place on the scoring list with girls around the nation and becoming a fourth time, first team all-stater. Throughout high school she had accumulated 14 plus high school and state records, along with 14 gold medals at the state track meet, which she attended all four years of high school.
