Jamming On Roller Skates: For Fun and To Stay Healthy

Roller skating is a great way to stay healthy and to have fun.
Several years ago I learned how to roller skate. Now I can dance on them and do special routines while staying fit. While I was enjoying my new hobby, I meet new friends and gained the physical benefits of cardio exercise. Anyone can learn how to roller skate, by learning the simple basics at their own pace, and enjoying its many health benefits.
Roller skating burns hundreds of calories. If I simply skate at least 30 minutes, moving my arms and legs and maintaining a slow to moderate pace, I get a complete body workout. Because of this, I’ve been able to maintain a perfect body weight and my legs have become stronger, with improved flexibility.
According to the American Heart Association (2009), roller skating is ranked among the best aerobic exercises.
As a result, of roller skating at least twice a week, I’ve been able to build up my endurance, and I now feel like I have a lot more energy to do other things. I have personally been able to keep my blood pressure in a low normal range, rather than in a high normal range, and I feel great!
I can’t imagine going a week without roller skating, because I enjoy it so much. I love “getting my groove on” while listening to old school, and disco music. One of my favorite moves is to smoothly maneuver on the floor, while doing one of my signature dance routines and then sliding on the floor to make a “calculated hockey stop” on eight wheels.
Roller skating can be a fun activity for the entire family. I have seen both adults and children of various ages, having a really good time at the skating rinks, regardless of their skill level. Therefore, roller skating is a perfect option for anyone, who wants to stay in shape while having fun. Yes! I love it.
Roller skating is a very affordable activity. For the price much less than a movie ticket, you can roller skate several times a week, without emptying out your wallet. If you don’t own your own skates, that is not a problem, because you can rent a decent pair of skates, and still be able to enjoy yourself.
However, owning your own pair of roller skates is better than renting, and here’s some reason’s why you should buy. First of all, they are very affordable. You can purchase a good pair for as low as $50.00. If you decide to upgrade later for a better pair, you can still buy a pair for a reasonable price, under $100.00. Secondly, once you break in your skates, you will have a pair that is conformed and transformed to your style of skating. Thirdly, as you progress in your skating skills you will be able to move with more confidence and precision.
Roller skating is a great family friendly activity. I am always thrilled when I see families engaged in this type of aerobic exercise. Not only is it a lot of fun, but when done on a regular basis, it can help the entire family to stay physically fit and enjoy great “family time” together. Wow! What a great way for the family to “play” and to “stay” healthy.
Most skating rinks provide different types of skating sessions to meet your personal preference. For example, normally the day sessions will provide a beginner’s session for those wanting to learn how to skate and an advanced skating session for those who want to learn more artistic moves. The evening sessions during the week, offer special skating sessions for the entire family.
These special skating sessions may include one evening for soft rock or easily listening music. There may be another evening designated for Old School Night, which normally includes music format from the 70’s to the 90’s. This is my favorite session, because I get to “show off my own special moves.”
To make this activity even more exciting, skating rinks have concession stands for snacks, drinks, and a fantastic game room for when you want to take a break from skating. What a great way to spend an evening!

Finally, I believe that roller skating is indeed an awesome way for you to stay healthy and have lots of fun, while staying on a budget. Don’t get discouraged in the beginning my friend, you will develop your skills overtime and the next thing you know, you will be sliding across the floor right along with me!
