I've been fascinated by music ever since I could pick up an instrument. From the intricacy of a carefully crafted jazz piece, to the hard hitting double bass blasts in a metal song, I can find something to enjoy in almost every form of music. It takes so many different shapes, I can easily fit different songs and genres to accent whatever mood I may be in. Sometimes, I have had people laugh at me when I admit that a certain song or solo has given me shivers or brought me to tears. Other times, the person I'm talking to is able to understand and feel the same emotional connection to a piece or song that I do.
In order to better understand and appreciate the music I loved so much, I started playing the clarinet in fifth grade. The clarinet is what originally slingshotted me towards my passion for music performance. It also brought me closer to other people who enjoyed music just as much as I did. I practiced as often as possible throughout middle school, and enjoyed every minute of it. When I’m playing music, all of my stress disappears, and I can truly enjoy myself. All of my friends, for the most part, are people I have met through band, pit orchestra or jazz. I like to surround myself with people who enjoy and connect with music as much as I do. As a result, I’ve decided I want to become a band director. I want to be able to bring the same passion that I have to younger kids, so they can understand and experience the true beauty of music. I want to have an effect on my students, and be able to say at the end of my life that I had an impact, however small it may have been, on someone’s life.
