In the story “Clara’s Day” written by Penelope Lively in 1997, Clara is a victim of her mother’s selfishness. The narrative technique(der var en rettelse som jeg ikke forstod) is a third person limited narrator. He/she has access to Clara’s thoughts, and that helps us getting closer to Clara and her state of mind. That gives us an impression of what the narrator thinks of today’s society and its problems. Clara is 15 years old, and she does not have any real friends or a boyfriend .Due to her adolescence she has a problem with her sexuality. She is afraid of growing up, and afraid of her own sexuality. Stan is Clara’s mother’s boyfriend, and he is very masculine, and for Clara he is the epitome of male sexuality. That’s why Clara is so afraid of him. One day when she was on her way to her room she meet him, and when he talks to her, he has a vague voice which makes her very uncomfortable, so she “pulled her dressing-grown more closely round her”. Due to her lack of friends she is very lonely and craves for attention. She finds it hard to express her feelings so she walks naked in the school.
