Radicals are labeled with a negative connotation, as said in “Radicals:Threats or Heroies?” by Melissa Stein, however the term can be misunderstood as seen in “Genetics of Justice” by Julia Alvarez. In “Radicals”, the author says that the stigma surrounding the term radical is used to maintain the status quo, and thus the term is used in a way that does not stay true to its original meaning; a radical being someone who rebels against the norm or advocates change in the status quo. In “Genetics of Justice”, Julia is a radical. However, she is not a bad person, she is a radical that stood up against the lingering chains of silence and wrote a book about a dictatorship.
