...mist hits your face as birds fly by off in the distance. As there are a wide range of small boats for sale, we need to understand what uses the small boat is intended for before buying them. A small boat that is intended for use on a river or lake will be different from a small boat that is intended for use on the open sea for activities like fishing or diving. So when searching through small boats for sale, the choice you made will depend on what sort of boating you intend to do. For instance, small fishing boats for sale can be used on rivers/ lakes or even out to sea for people to go fishing. A small boat like this will often have quite a flat bottom and lots of deck space for people and equipment. Besides, small sporting boats like kayaks and canoes are operated by a single person and are used as a pastime and for competition on various waterways around the world. ...My dad and I would usually go on fishing trips on Sundays during spring. Not every Sunday, but most. We would strap the small, ageing canoe which was held together by masses of adhesive tape onto the roof rack of our car and drive off to the countryside. On the way we would listen to the oldies music my father loves, singing along, getting the lyrics wrong and having a good laugh. It was always nice to have some time alone with dad, because he’s always busy working during weekdays to support the family. We would paddle to the middle of the lake, singing ‘row, row, row your boat, gently down the stream’ like little kids. When we reached the centre of the lake, we would stay as quiet as possible, so we wouldn’t scare the fish away. If we were lucky, we would make a nice catch for dinner, but we weren’t always so lucky. The lake was always peaceful. Its surface was so calm and still that it could have been a mirror. I would dip my finger into the water, making little ripples that would cascade across the surface creating an image as though the mirror was flexing and going to shatter. Fishing wasn’t the most exciting experience, sitting there for hours. The only excitement would have been to see one of those tiny frogs leap out of the shallow end of the still lake, hop around on the bank, until eventually they would disappear into the tall grass of the adjoining forest. Not that I was particularly fond of their appearance, but they did provide some entertainment. That particular...

...Final Report Amanda Haskin, Jiao Liang, Boyu Dang, Joseph Krantz, Zach Tranter 1. Evaluation A. With the boat not sinking, and finishing in 11th place overall; the race went very well for us. The structure of the boat stayed strong. The walls and its supports were able to withstand the force and wetness of the pond water. Ideally this was made possible because the bottom of our boat was two cardboard pieces thick and the bottom of the entire boat was taped. Our paddles on the other hand were a different story. We created paddles in the shape of ping-pong rackets and the arm of these devices didn’t hold up so well. The cardboard became very flimsy and the arms of the rackets bent, unable to sustain the water and pressure we were exerting upon them. The main reason why our fundamental idea didn’t work out as a paddle was because the arm of the structure didn’t prove to be strong enough. B. Our water line calculations were actually very precise. Most of the attribution for this was the fact that our boat had a very simple shape, thus easy to apply in the equations. Another factor that helped us is the fact that we got an accurate Weight of the boat and the occupants that were going to be in the boat, which allowed figures on the prediction to be very similar to that of the actual outcome. Our predicted water line was at 6.5 inches, and as it turned out we hit our mark. Inaccuracies could occur most probably in misuse of the equations or...

...few minutes we decided to walk around the island and explore. It turned out that there was nothing particularly exiting on the island but I thought it was nice to finally be able to stretch my legs. As we came back around to where our kayaks had been we realized that my mom’s kayak had floated away and was out in the middle of the lake! My mom thought about swimming out to it but it was too far out. I got in to kayak and went to get it, I pulled up to it and tied the handles on the back of both kayaks together so I could pull it. As I got close to the island my mom waded out to me, untied it and pulled it on to the shore. Once we had caught our breath we got back into our kayaks and started heading...

...I could feel the squishy green algae between my toes, and the smell of dirty lake water kept invading my nose. Behind me was a heavy, waterlogged kayak, two paddles, and my ten year old cousin, Jaiden. Ahead of me was almost a mile of lake to slog through with my load. The task ahead of me seemed insurmountable for my twelve year old, ninety pound body. “I don’t think I can do this alone,” I told Jaiden. But when I looked back, she was already far ahead of me. Sure enough, I would have to do this alone. It was really her fault anyway, but there I was, stuck cleaning up a mess that wasn’t mine. We had been kayaking across Summit Lake in Lassen National Park when our combined weight became too much for the little kayak. It simply stopped moving, so Jaiden tried to jump out and lighten the load. Instead of me going on smoothly, the kayak flipped over and became submerged in the water....

...This report provides an in-depth analysis of the two Everest Simulations conducted by Group 10 of MGMT1001 Thursday Tutorial. This task required students to form teams consisting of five to six members whose goals were to summit Mount Everest. While it provided us with a rich experience in team dynamics and collaboration, it also enabled us to explore key managerial concepts taught in the course, consisting of: • Communication • Groups and Teams • Leadership In this report, we examine the effectiveness of Face to Face Communication (FTFC) versus Computer Mediated Communication (CMC), and the problems encountered through the utilisation of the virtual medium including efficiency of the feedback system, loss of personal focus and other emergent issues. It includes personal reflections on attitudes and perceptions, as well as group performance and strategies adopted in the second Simulation in order to create a more positive team experience. Theories which relate to interpersonal communication have also been integrated in the report to illustrate its relation to certain situations encountered during the Simulation. Additionally, we provide a multifaceted analysis on the notion of team cohesiveness and how it attributes to better performance outcomes. An overview on the different intragroup conflicts encountered in the Simulation has been included, examining the positive and negative impact that conflict had on team experience and performance, and how mutual agreements were reached...

...is a computer necessary in conducting a realworld simulation? Answer It is important because there are many different types of outcomes that comes in with simulation. Computers are used in daily life activities and it is necessary. 14-11 What is operational gaming? What is systems simulation? Give examples of how each may be applied. Answer Operational gaming is the use of simulation in competitive situations such as military games and business or management. System simulation ls that deal with the dynamics of large organizational or governmental systems. Validation The process of comparing a model to the real system that it represents to make sure that it is accurate. 14-17 (a) Resimulate the number of stockouts incurred over a 20-week period (assuming Higgins maintains a constant supply of 8 heaters). (b) Conduct this 20-week simulation two more times and compare your answers with those in part (a). Did they change significantly? Why or why not? (c) What is the new expected number of sales per week? Answer A. The number of stockouts incurred over a 20 week period is HOT WATER NUMBER OF HEATER SALES WEEKS THIS PER WEEK NUMBER WAS SOLD 3 2 4 9 5 10 6 15 7 25 8 12 9 12 10 10 B, Two more times would give us the value of a multiplied by 2. c. 25 14-18 A. 15 days of barge uploadings and average number of barges delayed B, They both are probabilistic simulations. ...Initial operations strategy Prior to the commencement of the simulation, we examined the 50 days of historical data to glean as much information as we could about the operations. We performed some analysis in Excel and created a dashboard to illustrate various data. Specifically, we regressed the prior 50 days of jobs accepted to forecast demand over the next 2 - 3 months within a 95% confidence interval. The yellow and grey lines represent the maximum and minimum variability, respectively, based on two standard deviations (95%). Exhibit 1: Forecasted and actual demand by Day 50 and Day 270 Our two primary goals at the beginning of the simulation were as follows: 1) Eliminate bottlenecks and increase capacity in order to meet forecasted demand 2) Decrease lead time to 0.25 days in order to satisfy Contract 2 and maximize revenue In order to achieve these goals, we would need to know the capacity and throughput time of the entire system. We used the time required by each machine to process a lot to calculate capacity per station and then capacity of the entire production line (380 kits/day or 6 orders/day). In Exhibit 2 we can observe that the capacity of the production line is given by the station that produces the least number of units per day. Exhibit 2: Capacity of the production line The Decisions We decided to work with the maximum variability of demand because there was a penalty for late jobs and because there was no revenue for orders that took more than “x”...

...Monte Carlo Statistical Analysis Name Course Instructor Date The Monte Carlo method is a mathematical method used for problem solving through the generation of random numbers and then observing a fraction of these numbers and the properties they obey. It is useful in obtaining numerical solutions to problems that are too complicated for analytical solutions. It is a form of probability used to understand the impact of risk and uncertainty in various areas such as financial and cost forecasting. It involves computation of the likelihood of given events occurring or not occurring, without taking into account the interaction of the elements involved in influencing the occurrence. The mathematical method was invented by Stanislaw Ulam in 1946 and named by Nicholas Metropolis after a classy gambling resort in Monaco, where a relative of Ulam frequently gambled [ (Fishman, 1996) ]. Concepts of the Monte Carlo method Uncertainty Being a forecasting model, there are assumptions that need to be made due to the uncertainty of various factors. One therefore needs to be able to make estimations of the expected results as they cannot predict with certainty what the end value will be. Important factors such as historical data and past experiences in the field can be helpful in making an accurate estimate. Estimation In some cases, estimation may be possible but in others it is not. In situations where estimation is possible, it is wise to use a wide range of possible values instead...
