...The Suicide Tourist: Bringing Marriage and Family Together as One As people grow up, they think of what college they want to attend, what job they want to have, who they want to marry, and how many kids they want to have. Marriage and family are popular cultural aspects in the United States and around the world. Marriage and family can be shown through multiple views such as the media, magazines, and books. The video, The Suicide Tourist, demonstrates ways in which marriage and families plays a big role in decision-making in order to make someone happy. Craig Ewert’s wife believes that her husband is able to go through with this process of suicide injection, but knows she will miss him dearly once he passes. Their children will also be affected by this process and this event will bring their family as a whole closer together. While some people believe that Craig is doing the wrong thing and that his wife should be ashamed for allowing her husband to go through with this, I believe that it is the right thing if Craig and his wife both agree with what is going to happen. Even though Mary is losing her husband, there are also some benefits to Craig passing away from this disease. These benefits are that his wife and children will become stronger as individuals, come closer together as a family, and also financially they will be able to settle down. ...Although my last food journey as a Paleo was difficult, it was very rewarding as I learned much about the differences between our diets and ancestors’ diets. The one entity the Paleo diet lacked, however, was a religious backbone. When I was offered the opportunity to embark on a new venture, I was excited to explore the practice of eating kosher-style. While keeping my Lenten promise of avoiding sweets, I decided to dabble with the some Jewish food rules. I find it very interesting that we often regard food as an enemy—avoiding sweets during the season of Lent and never mixing dairy with meat when following the rules of kashrut—but why do we partake in such food rules? Perhaps, we abide by these rules so that we remain in good standings with God or maybe because we want to attain salvation. Throughout my kosher-style expedition, I searched for an answer and turned to several notable texts for insight. According to the rules of kashrut, there are several impermissible food combinations. Kashrut forbids one from cooking or eating meat and dairy products together. Furthermore, some Jews wait one to three, or sometimes six hours after eating meat before eating dairy again. Similar customs impose waiting periods for eating meat after one has consumed dairy; however, these periods are typically shorter in length (Sigman). The laws of kashrut extend so far that food must: (1) come from a proper source (no shellfish or pork), (2) be prepared in a specific manner and (3) not be combined...

...shooting, will be driven toward lower academic levels and will have their behavior altered as well; such events have brought families closer together for the wrong reasons. Violence in schools is not dealt with appropriately, thus why it has reached a point where it endangers students of all ages. Parents, teachers and the school staff should try to do everything in their power to prevent school violence, this can ruin the children’s future. A school’s reputation is very important, especially to the incoming students and their parents. A parent is more likely to not send their child to a school with a record, especially when it has to do with violence. Violent students have the possibility to influence and harm the lives of others. Violent students most likely do not do their work and or participate, the more students with low academic levels, the worse it is for the school, resulting in the schools grade going from a higher grade level for example an A school to a C school. Students will never be able to walk those hallways the same, there will not be a moment where they will not think about “that day”, no therapy or days off from school will ever erase that terrible tragedy. Families have been brought closer together. A survivor of a school shooting demonstrates how his family has been brought closer together when he says, "but I knew I needed to be with my family.” "I knew I'd be lost and my...

...sought after pieces of technology today. There is practically nothing a phone can’t do nowadays and everywhere you look, including in commercials, someone has an IPhone on hand. Throughout history in America, technology is the medium by which we are getting things done. It has transformed how we approach situations and how individuals act in society. Different generations rely on technology differently. While older generations didn’t have such advanced technology and aren’t accustomed to it being around so often, this generation grew up with it in his or her life. It is often dubbed as rude to have phones out while with family and while out with friends. This commercial is taking the image of wasted youth and turning it around. It is portraying how this ‘misunderstood’ teenager is using Apple products to create a movie that his family can cherish for years to come. While this advertisement tugs at the heartstrings and makes the viewers want to buy and IPhone, it is extremely stereotypical. For the duration of the commercial, the teenage boy is the only one using technology...

...It is important to have good hygiene routine, such as keeping your hair kept, not having bad body odor, clean and presentable clothing on. This is something patients look at very closely, if you are not up to a certain set of standard they have they might delay information. Even out of the medical field having good hygiene and being presentable is important everywhere. It is hard to find people who do not automatically jump to conclusions when they see how a person is dressed. That being said, facial expression and posture is also important as well. According to NCBI, patients feel more relaxed when physicians keep eye contact, smile at them, and seem as if they are interested in what the patient is saying. It is important to have the patient in a relaxed posistion and make them feel as is they are being rushed and unimportant. Keeping eye contact makes them feel as if they are being heard and their words are being analysed. Smiling is another positive reasurance that it is going to be ok and helps the patient relax so they can feel more open. They way the physician speaks also may or may not help the patient feeling more relaxed. No one want to speak to people who have an intimidating...

...Positive Effect of Technology on Communication Technological development has had a strong impact on the way society communicates. The Internet technology has given people tools to not only keep in touch with each other, but also express their feelings and opinions to a broader audience Keeping in Touch For more than a century now, technological advances have brought the world closer, making communication across long distances easier. Online communication of all types is the most efficient yet, with email being a near-instantaneous version of the paper letter; webcams, paired with communication programs such as Skype, iChat or Google Video Chat, make it possible to see the person you are speaking with rather than just hear his voice. Doing Business The same technological advances have simplified and improved personal communication. Companies can expand beyond their local market and gain a wider customer base simply by maintaining an active online presence. Overcoming Disabilities Technology has both improved communication for disabled people. Hearing aids boost the hearing of partially deaf people, making it easier to understand speech. Devices give people with severe speech impairments a way to express themselves: perhaps the most famous user of such a device is scientist Stephen Hawking. ...My trailblazing family’s thrifty efforts were legendary in our neighborhood. We started reusing and repurposing way before it was trendy. We made do with what we had and made what we had do more in order to awkwardly swim toward the Dominican American dream. Frugality is a game, or at least we made it into one. A game of who can save the most money by turning off lights, keeping the heater off and going to the library when the apartment got too hot. A game of who could make a skirt out of a short dress or find a scholarship for swimming lessons at the Y.M.C.A. The act of conserving money, the audacity to solve problems no one has thought of before is what set my family apart. Together we share our victories in a little tribe of four Amazon warriors partaking in our own version of the show, Survivor: NYC edition. The phrase “making do” could evoke connotations of stagnation and despair for some; but for me it is about understanding my situation and being proactive. The values I gained from being able to make do are unparalleled. Making do gifted me with resiliency and gratitude. Making do allowed me to internalize acceptance and to value...

...English 1010 6 June 2015 A New Life Humans are like tea bags. You do not know your own strength until you get into hot water. Growing up I always had it made. I had the security and support of my family plus financial support. I did not understand the true meaning of responsibility until maybe late last year when I found out I was pregnant. That day changed my life. I sat inside Starbucks and reflected on my life up to that point. I knew from that day on; that if I plan on keeping the baby I had to prepare myself mentally, physically, and financially. Late last summer I was feeling a bit discourage about life and where I was headed. I had no plans or goals set for myself. I was also feeling a bit depressed that I did not know what I wanted to do with my life. I knew I wanted to get back into school as a start to get me out of my dark clouds, but my living situation at the time did not permit me to do so. I knew God had a plan for me though because I felt his presence the most around that time in my life. He spoke to me through the people I was around and books I read at the time. I believe he was mentally preparing me for what was coming. My boyfriend and I also became closer around that time as well and talking to him helped me tremendously with my future plans on what I wanted to do. I was feeling a little better about myself now that I had written down some goals. Soon after, I find out that I am pregnant. Emotionally, I feel numb. By this time, I am still not in school...

He found nature as a comfort spot he could run to when he didn't want to deal with society anymore. “I do not think he ever hung out with any employees after work or anything. When he talked, he was always going about trees and nature and weird stuff like that. We all thought he was missing a few screws.” (Krakauer 29). Chris found comfort in nature and loved talking about it. He wanted to help everyone understand the importance of nature....
