The self-assessment topics that I completed were chosen because I can relate on a personal level. Whether it be through work or through hockey, narcissism is something I have to deal with on a daily basis. Going through these self-assessments, I was able to decipher the difference between what is and what is not. Reading through my responses will help you to decide also. I deal with people who want to be the center of attention and think they are the best. However, those people do not succeed at work. Those people are often the ones that do the least amount of work and with the worst quality. These people stress me out when I have to work with them. Taking the Symptoms of Stress self-assessment helped me to realize what I do without even realizing it and that lets me know when I am stressing out. Taking the two self-assessments has helped me to understand other people and myself much better. NARCISSISM For each of the following statements, indicate the degree to which you think each describes you by writing the appropriate number. 1 = Does not sound like me at all 3 = Sounds...

...Self-Concept: Juanita Lane How would you describe yourself? Are you funny, witty, or nervous? How do you think someone else would describe you? Would they say that you're logical, brave, or patient? Your self-concept is an idea of what you believe about yourself based on responses, reactions, and feedback from others. Even though individuals have certain concepts about themselves, those concepts are usually formed by external sources such as friends, family, co-workers, and many others. During the Self-Concept Inventory, I found that the top three words that best describe me are extroverted, intelligent, and trustworthy. I also find myself to be observant and dependable. When I asked my husband to complete the same task, I was not surprised to know that he thinks of me as trustworthy, dependable, giving, self-assertive, and complex. I hear at least one of these words daily, in one form or another. Though I felt that there were other words that better described me when it comes to my interactions with him, he thought those five words were best. My belief that I am trustworthy comes from my interactions with friends and family members. This developed from reflected appraisal that began in my teenage years. Even though I live in Italy, I have friends and family who contact me almost daily to discuss their personal issues or ideas. They trust that I will always give them my honest answer or opinion about their most intimate situations. I receive calls discussing anything from...

...Personal Reflection on the Self Paper Camille Beezley Psy/400 March 2, 2015 Jodi Clarke Introduction When reviewing the self in a social world, there is a lot to be learned; such as learning about oneself and the process of how one perceives or reflects on the self-image and how we feel about ourselves in general. To learn about self-concept can be one of the hardest things. When we think about who we are as a person, we can begin to understand ourselves better and get a better view of our possible self. Have you ever looked into the mirror and asked the person before you that day old question “who am I” and really looking for the answer? Sometimes we may think we know who we are until you see yourself from a new perspective to answer that question “who am I?” Once we get the basic answer, we can begin to think about our possible self. Not only who am I? But who I want to become (Possible self). Self-Concept Self-Concept is how we see ourselves through our perception. Self-concept can be influenced by life experience, environmental influences, and through our genetic background. Self-concept can also be looked at from an attribution perspective on how we view ourselves. The “self-concept,” is the concept the individual has of him or herself as a physical, social, and spiritual or moral being (Gecas, Viktor. (1982). For example a person saw themselves as an artistic person then all their interest would be revolved creative things such as art, galleries, and would...

...one's emotional and social intelligences. The four categories of the emotional and social intelligences are self awareness, social awareness, self management, and relationship management. According to the Hay Group survey, I have a strong aptitude to self awareness and social awareness. I believe that my strongest skills are being aware of my emotions, adaptability, and working in a team. I have always been aware of my emotions whether they be positive or negative emotions. My strongest ability is being able to adapt. I have done this many times, even by living in other countries. Adaptation is necessary because it shows that you are able to change. I also believe that having the ability to adapt allows me to work in an environment that has many different cultures since I want to work in an international firm. Not only do I want to work in an international firm, but I would like to be a leader who is able to liaison between different cultures. I want to be able to aid different cultures to work together to an end business goal. I have much more that I need to develop as I had low scores in self management and relationship management. One of my main issues I believe that has causes me to have these weak emotional and social intelligences is that I have been unemployed for over four months. Unemployment has been the largest setback in my life which has hindered my emotional and social intelligences. I have yet to have a professional career. The only types of employments...

...discuss the benefits of self evaluation/self assessment as it relates to leaders today. Understanding human behavior is critical to managers at all levels inside any organization. Individual managers within the organization can especially benefit from conducting self-evaluations. It is essential for managers to be self -ware and understand how their own behavior and personality can give them a better perspective while working with others. Being self-aware allows one to recognize and improve their strengths and weaknesses in order to maximize their leadership potential. In Organizational Behavior, Robins & Judge (13th Edition) tell us that organizational behavior is the knowledge gained about individuals, groups and the effect of structure on behavior in order to make organizations work more effectively. A major goal for any organization should be to work more effectively and to continuously make improvements, this is summarized by the Japanese Philosophy of Kaizen. For an organization to strive to continuously improve the leadership and management must adapt and learn. There are many ways in which a manager can strive to improve and one of those is through self-evaluation. What is a self-assessment or evaluation? Daniel Goleman (2000. Page 80) tells us that an accurate self-assessment is a “realistic evaluation of your strengths and limitations” . A manager conducting a self-evaluation can evaluate...

...again to answer this kind of question confronting my whole personality. Before, as I spent my time with the counselors, I was asked with the same question. To be honest, it's really hard to know one self but it is necessary. For you to know others know yourself. To understand others understand yourself. But it takes time to accomplish because you need to know everything with in you, accept it, and learn with it. I am Kestrel. Behind this name, I am who's on the process and still not perfectly molded as well-rounded individual. I am who look forward towards my goal, is a person with dark spots and discouragement. I am adventurous and I love to discover unusual things but I am afraid of what I don't know. I am important but I am unknown. If I were to put my self on the field, I am a farmer plowing my own lifeless stalks. I had with me this attitude, willing to take the challenge but afraid. Maybe or really I am just low self-esteemed. It is easy to say that I am kind, I am affectionate, I am honest, I am positive. The hardest thing there is to accept that behind those sunny aspects of mine, I am still facing the mirror of darkness and I don't know how to conquer it. This is me. I am positive but my negative side is pulling me down to failure. I always put into my mind that I must think hopefully, speak hopefully, and act hopefully. Those that I mention are true to myself but I am trying to go beyond embracing the hope as my powerful attitude. No matter what life crisis I...

Much to my disbelief, the end of Mr. Livingston, the teacher who has taught me about Gandhi, and Shakespeare, taught me to debate, and to find my true self, is actually leaving. By the time you receive this, there will be two days left, and I will never have your class again. I feel that as a result of you, Mr. Livingston, I have come to a better understanding of who I am, past all the personality masks, and what that world is, using philosophy to go past the point where science cannot go yet, and finally, where I want to go, using clever goal setting to become a better person. I see what you did there Mr. Livingston. You gave us this unit, and made us examine our lives. Then, you...

...Overview The article will briefly goes over some key findings in regards to the personal and informants’ assessments of my interpersonal and intrapersonal skills. The informants include someone who knows me personally, someone who I know from teamwork in school, and someone I just met in this course. To summary and better present the findings; I have attached several graphs under appendix section for a further discussion. Figure 1 presents the interpersonal and intrapersonal scores based on five categories among myself and different informants. It will be used as a set of core data to evaluate my interpersonal and intrapersonal skills. Figure 2 shows the mean scores between informants and me. I used my scores as the base mark conduct the comparisons. It is used to illustrate the discrepancies between my assessment and other informants’ evaluations. Social Skills Social skills entail the ability to communicate and interact with others in a way that is a appropriate and effective. (Segrin, C. & Flora, J, 2000). As Figure 2 showed, my scores are significantly lower than the informants. It is a good indicator that people are generally satisfied to talk or work with me while it seems that I’m not confident with my social skills. However, it must be noted that my lacking of confidence may relates to self-esteem problem. Self-Control Self-control can be defined as the effortful attempts by a person to change thoughts, feelings, and behaviours in order to reach long-term interests...

...SID: 52572903 Action Plan 1. Self-awareness First of all, I would like to increase my self-awareness. In order to achieve this, I plan to actively participate in more extra-curricular activities. I expect myself to join at least five activities before my graduation from university. Meanwhile, I would like to nurture a new habit which is writing self-reflection after participating in each activity. The content of the self-reflection will focus on my performance during the activity, such as whether I did well and if there were any rooms that I could improve. An action plan for each reflection will also be developed so that I can make improvement immediately. Also, I will take the initiative to ask different people to provide feedback after the activity. It is important to get feedback from others because it enables me to know where I am in terms of quality performance. Besides, I will try to have self-disclosure to the people that I trust. I will start with my best friends first by chatting with them during social gathering. In the meanwhile, I plan to spend more time with my friend from the university before my graduation. At least I will stay with them when I am in the campus. Therefore, our relationship should be enhanced and I can know more about myself from them. Most importantly, I can use the self-disclosure with them later on. 2. Listening skills By becoming a better listener, it will improve my productivity, as well as my ability to influence, persuade and...

...Prior to taking the self-assessments, I did not know where I stood in terms of my communication skills. I was expecting to find more weaknesses than strengths because of my personality type. I am an introvert. I have always had trouble connecting with people because I was either too shy or too anxious. I was afraid of the way people perceived me and I feared that I would embarrass myself at any given moment. Throughout my life, I have always tried to understand what made communicating with others so easy. I simply kept an open mind. I did not want to negate potential friendships or opportunities to grow personally. When I completed the self-assessment that determined my strengths and weaknesses, I was surprised to see that I had done better than I thought I would. Opening up my mind helped me see a variety of perspectives and it even helped me know myself better. According to the self-assessment, I am a good listener. I knew this already because I like to give the other person time to thoroughly explain their point of view. Another one of my strong suits is interpersonal communication. I am effective in...

...responsibility is critical because to know its definition is to be a pro-active human being willing to stay focused on themselves and their overall goals, especially when it comes to a college education. Achieving educational success is vital in that it allows us to be taken more seriously in the real world; it’s common knowledge that a majority of people won’t be hired into or attain well paying employment unless they have at least a Bachelors degree from an accredited university. The link between personal responsibility and college success is a clear one, without focus and self-discipline then it would be impossible for someone to succeed in school. A person has to want to be in college, they need an affinitive reason for pursuing their degree, or else their personal responsibility will prove to be considerably low. Before anything else, it’s important for people to know who they are inside and out, to be comfortable and happy in their own skin. According to respected professor D.R. Garrison, self-monitoring is synonymous with personal responsibility to construct meaning. He states “to be responsible for one's own learning necessitates a willingness and ability to self-monitor the learning process” (Garrison, 1997). The value of a person’s self is contributed to how they view themselves inside and out; through positive thoughts, perspectives, and behavior, a student can feel worthy of their own success (Siriwong and Wichithaleardphong, 2011). Self-worth and confidence are not things...

...conclusion? How you answer this question determines your self-image. Self-image isn’t something a person is born with. Self-image is numbers of self impressions that are built up over a period of time. These impressions are influenced by a group of elements. Those elements include people, events, and even places I have gone and came across in my life that have made me who I am today. Who am I? A question asked countless times by one’s self. My life up to high school was so much fun and years I definitely enjoyed. The first biggest vacation I remember taking was to Disney World in 1996. I remember very clearly most of every moment of that trip, it was a very hot summer that year, but yet it was so beautiful. One thing I remember most about that trip is a quote that was on a sign right as you entered the gates; “All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.” Ever since that hot summer day, that quote has stuck with me, and I still refer to it when times get tough. In the 5th grade, I met this wonderful little girl named Patricia on the playground who came up to me and asked me if I wanted to be pushed on the swing. I was shy at first, but I agreed to let her help me. At the age of 10, I didn’t really know the value of friendship, and little did I know that she would be become my best friend. We spent every summer together and she has made such an important impact in my life. To this day, she is still my best friend. The road through high school...

...Understanding My Emotional Intelligence Stephanie J. McAuley Bethel University Orientation to Adult Learning Charles Daniels April 11, 2016 Understanding My Emotional Intelligence A person’s emotional intelligence is described as their ability to observe, access, and manage emotions. I often wonder if my emotional intelligence provides me with a sense of stability and assurance within my social life. Understanding my emotions is necessary in order for me to be successful and increases my chances of survival in the real world, but I do not agree that the EI test accurately describes me. After carefully reviewing my emotional intelligence test results, I am now aiming to become much more in touch with controlling and understanding my feelings. Being able to utilize my emotional intelligence skills allows room for self-improvement and learning how to approach future situations. The ability to express myself freely and better understand my feelings now comes easily to me. I often find myself looking back and thinking of times when I could not clearly express myself and it makes me wonder. Thinking that maybe my mind had not fully matured, or if I simply did not know who I was. These thoughts led me to looking further into the woman I was becoming. After further examining myself I am sure that my emotional intelligence is at the highest it has ever been. I am also sure that there is always room for emotional improvement which is why I now strive to always to be in a...
