Kudler Fine Foods: Website

Learning Team C reviewed Huffman website, and saw two different sites. One site was outdated, very simplistic design with not much to it. It didn’t scream the elegance that Kudler Fine Foods would like to betray. The second site had been updated with streamlined colors and graphic slideshow. Each site had a few issues that could be a turn off towards their customer. A graphic heavy site could be hard for a customer to access. Both sites did not have the capability for an online ordering service. Learning team A recommends that the site be streamlined with simple graphics, simple fonts and have an online ordering service.
The objective of Kudler Fine Foods is to supply a responsive atmosphere to the customers by means of the finest morals and in originality to make surety of a precious usual consumer. These consumers wish and need superiority and a pleasurable setting to pay attention to their shopping desires and necessities. They offer preferred products, wines, and correlated requirements in an unmatched purchaser atmosphere to their customers and (they) will set out to widespread extents to give surety that Kudler’s is the preferred supplier for consumers hopeful to procure a huge customer cliental. The purposes in creating this website is to utilize the internet medium for advertisement and help promote Kudler’s Finer Foods to demography which is typically missed by the traditional advertising attempts.. Another benefit gained by implementing improvements to this website is to help generate additional income from new customers. If a customer is interested in fine foods, the customer will have full access on-line and see services and products Kudler’s offers, which will help increase revenue for the business. For the consumer who would like to see their basic prices or see what Kudler’s offers, the consumer can gain this basic knowledge and should help to drive sales and pricing decisions.
The target audiences are trade shoppers, commercial shoppers, potential customers and anybody looking to buy finer foods. We want the site to look appealing to everyone but especially to potential customers. There are options to consider when designing the site, such as theming, user interface, visual appeal and compatibility. Our target audience should be identified and then the website should be implemented with pieces of these options to satisfy those audiences.
The customer of Kudler Fine Foods is not looking to save money. The customer is looking for quality products, and hard to fine products. The Kudler Fine Foods has met this expectation to their customer, but needs an improved web presence. This expectation needs to extend to the online service as well. The online service that we have recommend will give Kudler Fine Foods the quality that their customers have come to expect from the store.
Improving the animation will display a great deal of improvement for the website viewer. With a broken animation the user’s attention is completely drawn away from the website and to the error. Adding a shopping cart will also be a large project to implement, but will ultimately add a great deal of value for the end user. Shopping carts add a medium to purchase and sell goods and services and open up a new method of generating income for Kudler’s. Lastly, the web site will be overhauled with a widely supported font change. In order to avoid having issues with different browsers, operating systems and displays not rendering a custom font on the website properly, we will implement a CSS change which will uniform the font’s site wide. With all of these changes made, Kudler’s website should have increased traffic, a new method to generate revenue and a widely supported and enjoyable user experience.
The Kudler Fine Foods website does have some major factors which do not provide any supplement to the website’s image. These factors such as spacing, color theming, animation and uniformity, should be corrected in order to display to the correct image to the potential customer.
The looming issue is the animation. We do not believe we should completely disband the animation due to it being the focal point of the page; however it needs to be corrected and maybe moved to a more flexible format such as jQuery. The children of the home page will maintain the same focal point, but as a still rather than an animated image. This will decrease the bandwidth and will also instill a consistency with the website. Consistency is a very common flaw with webpages, which are not dynamically created. If each webpage has its own set of code, there will be consistency issues. To alleviate this issue I would suggest maintaining the animation, but in a timed jQuery animation which is built on the JavaScript and CSS. This will also help secure the website by removing the Flash animation. According to Sterling (2007) article, the visitors would also benefit because they would not need any additional plug-ins, the application would degrade properly and our webpage would be much more search engine friendly. This improvement will also help minimize the largest load from the Kudler Foods’ home page. With four separate images and a lightweight JavaScript included in the header portion of the page it will significantly lower load times.
The Gourmet Market website below has a good look for a grocer site. The one thing about this site that Kudler does not offer is a shopping cart along with an ability to order online. Kudler Fine Foods does not currently offer any type of online ordering. What they offer for a site is merely to display what is available to order, however the customer still needs to go into the store or phone in the order. There is a potential customer market that is being lost.

To revamp the Kudler Fine Food web site we suggest a combination of standardized fonts used such as Verdana, Arial, and Helvetica because they should display the same from any computer. Font properties can be combined, for the use of Verdana, Arial, and Helvetica we would us the Font Properties font-style:italic, font-weight:bold; font-size: 90%; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica; If other fonts are used they may not display correctly on the user’s computer. We want the layout of the web site to fit the web site. Since we do not know what type of computers the users will be using when browsing our web site we want to design our web site for all computers. We will use text, fonts, and layouts that should stay the same on different browsers. We want to keep images and text reasonably small to maximize the use of the page. We will resize our images and use “thumbnails” for showing larger images. We have highlighted a few areas that should be corrected to improve the look and use of the Kudler Fine Foods website. These include spacing, the use of color and animation, adding a shopping cart, and unifying fonts throughout the site. This will improve the function of the website and consequently created a more business through online ordering. Learning team A concludes that the Kudler Fine Food customers base is people who wants quality over quantity. These are not that customer who is looking for a deal, just wants the best possible product. Kudler Find Food’s has earned the reputation with its customer base by providing quality unique products and excellence service. Their website should be an extension of that service. Learning Team A made some suggestions on how to streamline the look of the website on the front end. This will give the customer the look they expect from Kudler Fine Foods. Learning Team A also had some ideas to streamline the site on the backend to give the customer a seamless user experience without them knowing what went into it. Learning Team A suggests an online order service to give Kudler Fine Foods a way to expand their customer base by still providing the quality product and service they are known for. Also, the suggestion is to provide a complete CSS sheet and JavaScript to help the end-user access the site in any browser, or type of computer. These suggestions are to give Kudler Fine Foods the advantage in expanding their business.

The options that will be discussed are; going public through an IPO, acquiring another company in the same industry, and a merger with another organization. We then will show the strengths and weaknesses to each approach, the opportunities of each approach, the threats of each approach and the financial implications. In conclusion we will discuss our recommendation. IPO, Acquisition, or Merger: Why Each Would Work There are three viable options for Kudler Fine Foods as it decides how to expand its operations. It can go public and offer shares through an initial public offering (IPO), it can acquire another company in the same industry, or it can merge with another organization. Why an IPO would work. Kathy Kudler’s overall plan is to operate the business for another 10 to 15 years and then retire (University of Phoenix, 2008). The advantages of going public are that an IPO would raise new capital for Kudler Fine Foods, Kathy Kudler would gain liquidity of her share holdings, the company would gain future access to the public capital market, and Kudler Fine Foods would enjoy the benefits of the higher profile afforded by being publicly traded (Keown, Martin, Petty & Scott, 2005). With the expansion, Kudler needs to focus on the marketing strategy and incorporate additional marketing research. Competitive intelligence and analysis helps Kudler redefine the marketing strategy. Importance of Marketing Research According Kerin, et. al. Marketing research helps create long-term business plans, launch new products or services, and expand into new markets. Market research determines what the consumer desires in the store and the ranking against competitors. Kudler identifies the market share through research. Marketing research involves five steps. ...Marketing Kudler Fine Foods Sophia A. Canaii University of Phoenix Marketing Kudler Fine Foods Kudler Fine Foods (KFF) is a gourmet food store that provides the finest baked goods, meats, produce, cheese and dairy and wine. The company was established in 1998 by Kathy Kudler after she discovered there was not a gourmet food store in her neighborhood. Kudler Fine Foods is located in La Jolla, Del Mar and Encinitas. These three locations are within a 75-mile radius to each other. According to Kudler’s Strategic Plan “The Del Mar location is not doing as well as expected. Although the area meets the economic demographics for a successful area, the town is too small to really support the store.” This is not necessarily true, because the strategic plan noted that Del Mar’s population was 4,389 people, but household income in 2000 was $98,257. However, Kathy initially set up her store in that location because the area was considered economically strong. The following development of the problem statement comes from completing steps one through three of the problem-solving model (University of Phoenix, 2008). The Del Mar location is not as successful as projected because the population is not a great as the La Jolla area. Because of this, Kathy plans to consolidate the Del Mar location with the Carlsbad location, which is in the works. One of the weakness the Del Mar office faces is that it has the lowest population in regards to the La Jolla and Encinitas location...

I believe the values are similar between Kathy Kudler and I because Kathy quality standards are high and her devotion to customer service is outstanding. A willing combination for any business. Mine are also similar, as will soon be seen. The “Ethics Awareness Profile indicated that I am most closely aligned with: [C] character. The assessment also indicated I am least closely aligned with: Equity” (The Williams Institute for Ethics and Management, 2006). After studying the material associated with this assessment, I decided to concentrate on the characteristics that I am the most strongly associated with then the characteristics that I am not. The assessment indicates that a character type of ethical person, “tends to base your ethical perspective on what it is good to be, rather than what it is good to do. You believe that ethics should focus on ways to help people achieve moral excellence” (The Williams Institute for Ethics and Management, 2006). I read further and came across a couple of more interesting points concerning the character ethical type. I “believe that ethics relies on the ability of individuals to make sound moral judgments. I do not believe that it is enough to comply with some preset standards or principals of right and wrong to find the solution to a complex ethical dilemma. (The Williams Institute for Ethics and Management, 2006)”. I ask myself what does this mean...

...Differentiating Between Market Structures in Kudler ECO/365 Differentiating Between Market Structures in Kudler Kathy Kudler started Kudler Fine Foods out of La Jolla, California, in 1998 (Apollo Group Inc., 2011). With the success of the original store, she the opened stores in Del Mar and Encinitas California. Kathy Kudler came up with the idea for these high-end food stores as she has a fondness for cooking gourmet food. Kudler thought others might share her passion if they could conveniently locate the ingredients for these gourmet recipes. The first Kudler store was a complete success and turned a profit within the first year. As with any businesses some of the Kudler Fine Food stores were struggling with the declining economy. The Kudler store in Del Mar was having difficulty with expansion, higher wage costs because of unique work positions, and slow operations. The goal of any business is to increase profit. The company must have good oversight, smart marketing, and useful marketing survey results to determine if there are adjustments that could change the businesses profit. The monopolistic competition market structure include a large number of companies selling slightly similar products. There are very few barriers to enter into this market but there will be high costs for initial start-up. There are multiple dimensions of competition market structure including distribution outlets, advertising, and product attributes (Colander, 2010). ...
