...Link: http://prezi.com/glz_cz_2c_gs/medical-advancements-during-wwi/ Station 1 Transcript of Medical Advancements during WWI Blood Transfusions "With improved weapons came great destruction and mayhem. However, in the backdrop of arenas of war, physicians and scientists learned valuable medical lessons, later applied to civilian care, from the agony of the battlefields and the horrors of war crimes." -Evelyn B. Kelly Medical Advancements During & After WWI At the beginning of WWI, doctors did not find it practical to group different blood types of donors. After hundreds of deaths due to clotting, a mandatory lab test was issued. Later on in the war when labs were not available, a few CC's of blood would be injected into the patient's arm. After a few minutes, if there was no reaction, the full blood transfusion would be carried out. For a while, only blood type O was collected into a "Rous-Turner glucose-citrate solution ... and stored in an icebox." (The Educational Broadcasting Corporation). The blood would be stored for up to 26 hours until it was considered "bad blood". Later on doctors found that even older blood did not seem to influence the results in patients. The first citrate blood transfusion was preformed on November 14, 1914 by Professor L. Agote. Although it was successful, it was thought to be too much work while in a war zone. "Prior to the discovery of sodium citrate to prevent blood from clotting in 1914, the use of blood transfusion was...

...------------------------------------------------- Visit Natura Question 1 : How does a strong vision and a corporate culture based on human well-being affect employees? You don’t just all of a sudden ‘have’ the almost 8,000 motivated employees that Natura can globally count on, you have to earn them every day. There are several ways in which one can see what influences both company and employee at the same time, and we’ll try to elaborate on at least some of those corporate characteristics. Maybe the most straight forward aspects are to be found when you take a closer look at the employee advantages related to the work, the so-called fringe benefits. As what I’ve learned from the guided tour, apart from their regular monthly pay-check, employees are made feeling very supported when performing their professional activities in the Cajamar factory. Besides the somewhat more regular insurance plans, payback of transportation costs and a restaurant to enjoy a healthy lunch or snack, Natura employees with kids can also use the baby day-care centre if there short on a babysitter. Even more, mothers with new-borns are allowed to stay home for 6 months and even new dads are allowed to take up much more weeks than the Brazilian average of two weeks of paternal leave. Apart from this, the Cajamar factory also includes a gym where employees can stay fit, a medical facility for urgencies, a bank and a shop for easy access to all of the products in the Natura catalogue. In addition...

I am highly indebted to my project guide Mr. Brajesh Kumar – General Manager Marketing (SAARC, SEA & EUROPE), for giving me an opportunity to work with him. ...Leaving the Hive When John Replogle (MBA '93) became CEO of Burt's Bees in 2006, sales had been growing by over 30% per year over the previous four years across multiple, increasingly diversified channels of distribution in the United States and abroad. The company's brand leadership in the natural personal care category—itself growing by 15% per year over the same period—was secure, despite growing competition. Replogle's mantra was that all this momentum gave Burt's Bees a unique opportunity to bring natural personal care to the forefront of mainstream personal care in the coming years, a revolution that would be consistent with the original vision of Burt's Bees founder Roxanne Quimby, who thought that the natural and earth-friendly products would ultimately reach "everyone, everywhere." Replogle liked to provocatively claim that Burt's Bees wanted to become the "Starbucks of personal care," in reference to the niche coffee" brand that won over its category by imposing superior product expectations and a renewed sense of meaning in consumption. Achieving this ambitious goal, however, would require many changes for the Maine-born brand that carried an anti-commercial image of friendly quirkiness. Already, rapid growth had propelled Burt's products into mainstream outlets such as CVS and Walgreen pharmacies. Under Replogle's leadership, the product range would be changing rapidly as well. It would still star the brand's classics, including beeswax lip balm and lip shimmers...

...Research We received a task which was to investigate science at work. This would vary from many different fields in science meaning that there are many different options which are available to us across the U.K. Due to this, we decided to narrow the search to local companies so that finding information from them was easier to attain due to them being easily accessible. So, to do narrow the companies to make it easier to find the companies and group them; 1. Firstly, before anything, sat with my peers and teachers and came up with different sectors of what companies would have aspects of sciences which are used and then we created the groups to specific aspects of sciences such as Health, Food, farming, education, manufacturing etc. We chose these types of sectors due to them being specific to a type of science which would split the companies due to the different uses of what the comp 2. .anies focus on. As we created the groups, we made sure that our groups were such of those that can be linked with each other. 3. After doing so, we then brainstormed on what the company types would fit under the categories we created. This was done on a mind map so that we could see the groups and what type of company or what the company specializes in would be visible to us after we had found the types of companies we were looking for, we could then find the companies that were close to us. We were looking for the companies that were near us due to them being easily accessible...
