Project Description
Contractor Requirements: The contractor has obtained all licensing required to comply with all codes local and state as well as federal for the job proposed. The contractor has also proved that they are a licensed and authorized reseller of the networking and infrastructure components quoted throughout this agreement and can show proof thereof. The work will be supervised by a Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) during all phases of the installation. An RCDD must be onsite and available to technicians and installers any time the work is being performed.
The purpose of this RFP is to provide a functional specification for the comprehensive technology network system. This includes the required network cabling, termination points/boxes and necessary network devices. Mating sleeves, bare fiber adapters and optical attenuators are a few things that are needed specifically for fiber installation. In addition, the purpose would also include the proper details and criteria for the successful design of the network system. The contractor shall provide all of the necessary cables, network equipment and components necessary to construct the network system. This includes all raw materials such as cable, wall plates, outlet boxes, and such terminating modules and components as necessary to complete the job as contracted. Devices like test kits, power meters, fault locators, and connector adapters are all pre purchased and is property of the installing company. This document provides all of the necessary specifications to be used in the design of the network infrastructure and associated equipment. The contractor shall furnish all labor, materials, tools, equipment and reasonable incidental services necessary to complete an acceptable installation of the network infrastructure as contracted.
Business Case
Your network will be FTTB (Fiber to the Building). This means that the fiber will run to the main building and that will give you the ability to use fiber throughout the entire complex or the use of high-bandwidth copper cabling can be used. For the wired portion of the building and the telecommunications room, we will be using 62.5/125 cabling. Each room will have at least one outlet so anyone that needs a wired connection can do so and every room will have an extra drop that – if needed – is there for redundancy. This extra drop will be copper cat5e cable so that if anything goes wrong, you will still have a chance to connect to the internet. Since the building is pre-wired to use copper, you will have them for instances if any of your fiber network is damaged and needs time to fix/replace. It is much easier to install them now as opposed to when the building is occupied. Therefor each lab has an extra just in case you need to expand in the future.
If expansion is needed (other buildings on campus) you will have the proper connections ready so there will be no surprises when we come back to expand. The other buildings can be either copper or fiber (or a combination) or even wireless. Remember we can get higher bandwidth cat6 or 7 cable to prevent as much bottle-necking as possible.
As for the wireless portions of the network, we installed wireless access points in each of the theory rooms so anyone that needs to access the internet on their laptops or other wireless devices can do so without loss of signal strength. Wireless is much easier to upgrade or change in the future, so we are not installing the top-of-line wireless access point since most of the networking will rely on the stations in the rooms. The repeaters, though, can be adjusted to a different area (thanks to power over Ethernet). We will not charge labor for moving repeaters or access points, just our current service call price.
As for the four return drops that go from lab 1 to the telecommunications room, they each have a purpose also. Two drops are for load balancing and the other two are for the network printer and the last for redundancy.
Everything that we are installing is included in the price, we are not marking anything up. If we make a mistake that is not caused by Mother Nature or other contractors, we will fix it at no extra cost.

Goals and Objectives
Given the physical layout diagram, we will install 126 network drops based on EIA/TIA 568B, though not mandatory, we will follow the EIA/TIA developed FOTP's (Fiber Optic Test Procedures) and OFSTP-14 (Optical Fiber System Test Procedures) for testing. Also, the standards for optical power measurements are set by NIST (the US National Institute of Standards and Technology). We do need to comply with fire codes and will follow the NEC770 standard (this is the fire code for fiber). No deviation from the standards is permitted unless authorized by the proper authorities in writing.
The most important part of this whole project is safety. Working with fiber needs to be done in a clean environment due to the fact that if anything (dust, dirt, debris, etc.) gets in the cables or equipment, that can hurt or even make your network inoperable. All outlets, wiring racks, etc. will be supplied, installed, and tested by us. Our goal is to have everything up and functional well before it is needed to be sure to catch any errors. Equipment and components will honor any manufacture quality and performance warranties that they have. Any and all paperwork that is included with equipment will be left at the site for whom it may concern. Also included will be any notes or wiring diagrams needed to assist the head of whichever department is needed.
Our layout and routing of the cables will get network connectivity to every computer in the building that were are informed of, along with printers and servers. Please note that the printers will be connected to the computers via copper cat5e cable to help save a little money since it is not going to make anything faster/better when it comes to printing. The design of this network will give you many options to access different protocol methods.
If there is any work to be done during “off-hours” or if anyone runs into overtime, there will be no additional cost to you.
We will respond to any troubleshooting calls within, but no more than, 24 hours from receipt of said call. If it is critical, we will be on site within 4 hours of getting call.
Please be sure to reply with anything we may have missed, as we will only install and cover what is agreed upon in this bid. Project Team For this cable installation project our team will consist of three highly qualified, certified cable installation professionals. All team members have been trained in copper cable installation and have had much experience installing cable for large buildings (references available upon request). Our team will document the entire installation process to allow easy access for updating and troubleshooting and will demonstrate experience and competence in the field of copper cable installation. All employees have been trained and certified in proper installation and troubleshooting aspects of cable installation.

If your building was already in place (versus starting from scratch), there may be additional time needed to get everything set up. Also, that would change the architecture to FTTC or Fiber to the Curb. It may not be in the budget to run fiber to the building if it is not already there.
