...1 April 2008 pp. 33 - 50 FEATURE Leadership Styles of Information Technology Administrators in Selected Philippine Adventist Educational Institutions Adrian Schmidt Abstract: This study investigated the relationship between the Leadership Style of Information Technology (IT) administrators in selected Adventist colleges/universities in the Philippines, and the perception of the consumers about IT services. Significant differences were found in the perceptions of IT services when consumers were grouped by age, number of years in the institution, and level of education completed. Significant differences were found between the faculty, staff and students, with students indicating less favorable perceptions of IT services. Negative correlations were found between the attitude of consumers toward the IT department and the authoritative component of leadership, and a positive correlation was found between a laissez-faire style and attitudes of consumers toward the IT department. Information Technology (IT) departments are often perceived as being characterized by a lot of movement, speed, and the sense of never having enough time. But, are there differences between IT departments? Is there a way to differentiate between IT departments that produce better results and those that are always behind schedule? Between the best IT leaders and the mediocre ones? What are the factors that influence people’s perceptions of IT services? Does leadership style influence their perception? Are...

...Certificate in Business and Finance Management & Leadership Leadership in an Age of Uncertainty Arturo Garcia-Huidobro P. Carolina Olaya Bustamante. Leandro Da Silva. Zuzana Maitnerova. London, 25 July 2012 Leadership in an Age of Uncertainty 1. Introduction There are many definitions on what is leadership. One of the simpler one describes leadership as ‘a process by which a person influences others to accomplish an objective and directs the organization in a way that makes it more cohesive and coherent.’ Clark, D. (1997). Until the late 1940’s the leadership theories presumed that the successes of a team were the consequential effect of the team’s leader’s qualities. However, good qualities alone cannot be used as an indicator or a guarantee of leadership effectiveness. Current studies therefore turn their attention to the behaviour and style of the leader. Ancona, D. (2005). Understanding the good leadership is the first step on the way of becoming a good leader. In our report we examine the answers of candidates working in leading positions who agreed to participate in our survey and share their knowledge and thoughts on leadership. We compare the answers with the information we have gathered during our course, found in literature and on the internet. 2. Literature Review When completing the assignment we relied on the knowledge gained during the course. We have discussed the traits of a good leader as well as leadership styles during our sessions, and this enabled...

...Impact of Information Technology on Activities of the University Information technology has been a focus point on many potential students who are seeking higher education. Based on recent dramatic increases in instructional computer use in American colleges and universities, it would appear that the promise of information technology has a considerable amount of logical appeal (Lamont Flowers, 2000). The mission of colleges and universities as creators and consumers of valuable knowledge and information can no doubt be greatly improved if IT is strategically and proactively embraced in support of the institution’s mission (Unknown). Information technology is becoming a major appeal factor in the colleges and universities it is causing them to become creative in the digital world. The availability of high bandwidth access to instrumentation, data, and colleagues is also changing the way scholars do their work (James Duderstadt, 2003). At the national level many universities, particularly publicly supported institutions, were required to develop and implement experiential learning methods across all of their disciplines and in their curricula (Fahmy).Universities can design their core curricula according to an overall educational philosophy. Because decisions about program philosophy and course content are made by the faculty, the contents of and boundaries between courses are flexible; they can be changed to suit evolving circumstances, not least the interests of the best...

...Theoretical and Practical Change in Strategic Organizational Leadership By: John King BSM 3-200 MGT 499 Capstone: Strategic Organizational Leadership Executive Summary The rationale or objective of this Capstone Paper is not to support or defend a particular type of strategic organizational leadership; but, to explore and analyze the theoretical and practical changes that cause organizational leadership to alter its goals and effectiveness, by way of strategic variables or necessity. The understanding and significance of theoretical and practical change in organizational leadership is fundamental to the nature and trends of business and government goals and their effectiveness. Organizational leadership is a planned social process that a person or persons in charge, lead or organize groups of people to achieve a common objective. This process may be orchestrated on a large or small scale and for profit or power. This strategic process is not normally the vision of a manager initially, but the dream or idea of the true leader. The strategies used by the leader of an organization often establish the culture of the organization (Flamholtz, & Randle, 2008). Theoretical and practical change in organizational leadership appears to be involved heavily with organizational culture or behavior. The history and background of organizational leadership has illustrated both fundamental and enlightening examples...

...Information Technology and the Effective Leader Kaitlyn Wentz The University of Akron Abstract The focuses of this paper are the attributes necessary to be an effective leader through information technology (IT). The paper is based from research of an analysis of empirical research by James N. Danziger and Kim Viborg Andersen, an article by Akhlaque Haque, and other in-course readings. The introduction focuses on the leader and the attributes needed for an effective leader. The paper goes on to describe IT in public administration and the countless benefits it brings. Each attribute of an effective leader is introduced with a description of its relation to leadership and IT. Introduction In today’s society there are many attributes associated with what makes an effective leader. However, there is no single definition of leadership (Rosenbach & Taylor 2006). To be successful as a leader in today’s society, it is imperative for a leader to have “self knowledge,” (Rosenbach & Taylor 2006). This means that it is essential for a person to understand his or her own behavior and personality in order to be an effective leader. Leadership depends on factors such as personality, behavior, and situational context. There are numerous internal as well as external attributes that shape a leader. Information technology is an external attribute that positively influences leadership and organizations. IT has allowed major advancements in leadership because of how it is set up...

...Leadership Behaviors in Project Design Offices Esin Kasapoğlu1 Abstract: Leadership may be defined as the ability to collect a group of people around definite objectives and the achievement of said objectives. An architectural design team needs a leader, and in this paper, the owner of the office is the formal leader. Leadership behaviors of employer architects are directly related to the performance of the design team; therefore, effective leadership is key to a successful design process. Data were collected through a questionnaire on leadership behaviors that was distributed to 40 architects from different design offices in Turkey. Leadership behaviors were gathered into two main groups—delegation of authority and managerial orientation. The significant positive correlations are between authoritarian and task-oriented leadership, and between participative, achievement-oriented and employeeoriented leadership. The position of leader-architects and the age and size of offices are directly related to leadership behaviors. The results show that although leaders of project design teams indicated that participation was important, they actually preferred task-oriented leadership.
