...and take a closer look at the technologies utilized in a Rhet 105 classroom at the University of Illinois. However, before we could assess the technologies in play, we first had to establish what the goals of Rhet 105 are. To get our initial information concerning the goals of Rhet 105 we interviewed a Rhet 105 professor. We then decided to take a look at research that has already been done regarding the technologies that the Rhet 105 instructor is using. After establishing what the goals of Rhet 105 are we proceeded to try to learn what techniques the instructor implemented to try to accomplish these goals. In addition to asking the professor what techniques he used to accomplish these goals, our group observed the classroom first hand. After observing the class, we looked at how Rhet 105 students reacted to the professor’s goals and techniques by doing a student survey as well as two student interviews. First, our group interviewed a Rhet 105 to gather information about the goals for Rhet 105 and how he is trying to accomplish them. We chose to interview an instructor who has been teaching Rhet 105 for two plus years, Cody Caudill. We first asked Caudill, “What are the goals of RHET 105 and how do you plan on accomplishing these goals?” He responded by saying, “The primary goal that I have is to, first and foremost, invite students to follow a passion.” He also said, “Another goal is to show students that there is no such thing as ‘writing in general.’” Caudill tries to...

It is the advisement of the team that the President consider increasing spending for educational programs to unemployed workers to obtain higher paying positions after school. This will in turn take individuals that are not gainfully employed and allow them to learn a trade, go to a community college or obtain a higher-level degree. Lastly, according to the Keynesian perspective, it is strongly suggested that the President lower taxes for the middle class. This should increase the aggregate demand by freeing up cash for families to use. ...Knight EH100 04/04/12 My English learning experience I was born in a non-English family. I started to learn English when I was in primary school in China. After that, I became gradually interested in this new language and, nowadays, my English level is continuing to improve. From my English learning experience, I have really learned many valuable things. First, it helps me realize not to give up halfway when facing difficulties. Also, it helps me know that I must take everything seriously. Thus, English actually has a significant effect on my life. Studying in the primary school was happy and easy for most of the pupils. For me, it was different. When I heard that I had to learn English in primary school, I was surprised and a little frightened. I was just a Chinese boy and I did not know the knowledge of reading and writing in Chinese very well. How could I learn a new foreign language? I still remember my first English class, and it was really a great challenge for me. In the class, the teacher taught us to say "Good morning" and "Good afternoon." At first, the teacher read the words slowly, and I knew how to pronounce them. Then the teacher asked us to read the sentences one by one, but I suddenly felt nervous and forgot how to read them. When it was my turn, I just read them ambiguously. After class, I felt ashamed, and I did not have confidence to learn English anymore. When I came home and told my mother what had happened, she encouraged me and told me that it...

...Energy, enthusiasm, patience, friendly, confidence and knowledge. ‘What are your expectations of yourself as a student teacher?’ To help the students to learn to their best ability? To motivate and encourage each student and understand each student at their own level? To complete the designated subjects that have been assigned to me from my cooperating teachers? To give the students the best knowledge that I have learnt from my experience in school, college and the business world? To engage students in the learning environment so that they are well equipped for their junior cert and leaving cert exam? This was the question posed to the naïve student teachers. What I wanted to achieve when I started teaching, and presently hold, are not so alien from each other, just now perhaps more realistic. Meeting the principal and teachers at their school for the first time was a great feeling. They made me feel so at ease as I met everyone. They also provided the course books and assigned the chapters, which I was to cover. I was definitely ‘bitten by the bug’! Focused, energized and excited I went back to college to start my lesson plans. According to Kyriacou, 2001, the effective teacher must have yielded a mass of material concerning the skills, which are displayed by an effective teacher. Teachers judged to be effective appear to have the following qualities; • ‘Establishing an orderly and attractive learning environment. • Concentrating on teaching and learning...

...There comes a time in everyone’s life when we have to sit back and analyze our lives when everything seems like it’s not going right. We put ourselves in the predicaments we run into and at times like this we can blame no one but ourselves we have to take charge and claim personal responsibility for our lives and everything going on in it. The same thing applies to academic success; you must learn to accept personal responsibility to be in control of your college destiny. This is a big step to take which is not that easy for people to do. Accepting and acknowledging that WE are responsible for the choices we make in life and our education will give us the upper hand and allow us to take control. Personal responsibility is taking accountability for one’s own actions which is the major step towards becoming a successful individual in society and as a college student. When taking on accepting personal responsibility we have to be honest with ourselves and stop blaming others and situations for our downfalls. We have to get over these mishaps in our past and focus on TODAY. We need to focus on who we are as of now and where we want to go in the future. We can start by acknowledging and understanding discrepancies in our lives that go against the life we are trying to lead. Taking action towards eliminating these flaws will lead us down the path to success. We have to also acknowledge those times when we felt in control and our life was going in the direction we wanted, what...

...create the environment students need to learn. Classroom Expectations and Procedures The classroom expectations and procedures that I have set up are for a fourth grade classroom. The first component of my class management plan is to establish classroom rules and social expectations with my students. The rules will be discussed in the context of assessing what we think makes a safe classroom so we can learn and grow together. We will agree to these rules as a class. I believe this creates a sense of ownership among my students, which is a very important initial step in forming a classroom community. I value the process of making my classroom rules as a group rather than making rules to force on my students. Here are examples of rules that we will vote on as a class: 1. Raise your hand before speaking. 2. Raise your hand before leaving your seat 3. Respect your classmates and your teacher. 4. Keep your hands and feet to yourself. 5. Do not sleep in class. 6. No shouting. 7. No cheating. 8. No “name calling.” 9. Always do your best work. The way I plan on monitoring my classroom behavior is by using Class-Dojo. Class-Dojo is a classroom tool that helps teachers improves behavior in their classrooms quickly and easily. It also captures and generates data on behavior that teachers can share with parents and administrators; Better learning behaviors, smoother lessons and hassle-free data. In some classrooms, more than 50% of class time is spent managing behavior rather...

...opened her first school in 1906 and based her form of education on her work with and observations of needy children. Today, Montessori is popular world wide. Montessori schools are different in many ways from traditional schools. These differences are many but, so are the benefits. Traditional schools adhere to rules and regulations. Traditional schools have schedules and there is a set time for everything: eating, playing, math, and reading. Children are not given any choice on when and how long they can participate in an activity. Montessori schools believe in allowing the students to choose in how long it takes to explore and learn from an activity. The schedule is fluid with some activities taking longer on some days and shorter amounts of time on another day; depending on the mood and energy of the children in the classroom. The teacher rules in traditional school settings. The teacher teaches her class and the children sit and listen intently. Children are not allowed to move or talk without first getting the permission of the teacher. The Montessori teacher takes a silent presence in the classroom. The goal here is to present the information to the class and then allow the children to explore the new concept while moving around the room and talking. Being outdoors is essential in a Montessori school. It is believed that all children need time to play and explore the earth. The Montessori philosophy on this is that, through out doors play, children learn to appreciate...
