I did not stop walking until I was out of sight of Leisel.
Then I ran. My legs never ceasing their cycle of motion, my mind, never lost from the one thought, Run.
My lungs were alight and my heart getting ready to beat out of my chest.
A strange sensation, I discovered, being so agonisingly pained, however unable to stop moving.
My bones felt as if they were made from lead, however some unknown energy forced them to still work with my strained muscles and have me continue through the shadows.
I ran like a tempest darting through outstretched branches that welcome the spill of blood.
Keeping my focus steady, I ran quicker.
My legs would admit defeat before long enough; if they failed to, I might have met a sweeter fate.
My eyes perforated…show more content… Perfectly pained, I let myself lie in the freezing earth.
Snowflakes fell like pure stars floating to earth, no two alike. I loved her so incredibly.
* * * A KEY WORD * * *
Almost.
I might have seen it coming if I paid attention. Except I was too busy spending time with Liesel to even notice the change. She soon became my closest friend, someone whom I quickly missed whenever she would go. My moods would rise on her return. Her little quirks soon became my favourite thing, easy to discern her mind-set in their absence. Her eyes pierced me and soon everything reminded me of them. Her laughter was my haunting tinnitus; it kept me up all night. I craved for our private chats, where she opened up and at the same time I dread she’d tell me, that she’d have all this for another. I had decided, lying there in the snow, that I would never ask Leisel for a kiss again. But, of course, I could never lose her. She was, after all, my best friend. My Saumensch. Slowly I started to pick myself up from my fallen position thinking about our next adventure.

I stabilised myself quickly brushing off the snow. “Liesel, Is that you?” I called out into the forest. I knew it would not have been Liesel. The only reply was the echo of my own voice. The rustling made itself known to me again, maybe Viktor had followed me into the forest to torment me in the menacing shadows of the forest. My heart was in my throat, my eyes flickered back and forth. My hand unconsciously clenched into a tight fist. The fear overwhelmed me, it spoke to me in a cackling voice. Viktor had left long ago. I couldn’t run anywhere in case of attracting unwanted attention of whatever was out there. It was too late, I knew it had already noticed me. I caught a glimpse of a figure out of the corner of my eye, a dark, hostile figure. As achingly cold as I was, wet clothes frozen to my body, I felt a strange shiver of premonition go through me. A single ache of foreboding ... Maybe they had come to take me away to the elitist group.
Maybe Death himself had come for me.
I wasn't ready to die there, in the forest, alone. .. and then, the feeling was gone. I felt released. I had games to play, races to run and books to steal with the book
