The syntax moves from patriotism to realization to finally to encouragement. In the beginning, Lincoln starts his speech by stating that our fathers set forth a new nation under liberty, dedication, and that all men are created equal. This demonstrates a sense of pride of our nation and the purpose of our creation of this country. Lincoln does this to bring the people together as our father were. In, the middle he explains how we were engaged in a great civil war testing any nation that is so conceived, dedicated, and can long endure. This gives us information on how Lincoln was trying to make us see the reality of whats happening and the consequences of our actions on that battle ground.
