The debate on whether Teresina has an accurate understanding of her identity is very clear by the end of the novel; Loving Pedro Infante is a novel about redemption. Teresina who is a big fan of Pedro Infante underwent experiences in her life while she was still trying to find her identity. Her addiction to Pedro shows her feelings about sex, love and the culture she is part of. She made some bad decisions that affected her but she was able to change the direction of her life and make better decisions based on what she learned.
Teresina doesn’t understand who she is because of her actions and the way she’s living. She loses her job because of Lucio, “Miss Avila, I called you in here because we’ve received a complain…I don’t know how to say this but it’s about your personal life…it’s about you and Lucio Valadez…I have to ask you to take some time off. We’ll talk again in August” (Chavez 270). Tere realizes that her actions have affected her to the point where it affected her job as well. She loses her job because Lucio’s wife complained but now she knows it’s not a good idea to continue to see Lucio.
