...Chapter- One Introduction Report Objective The objective of this report is to identify “Causes of Low Market Demand of Rupali Bank Ltd and Measures to Change the Situation”. This report is done in order to analyze the causes of low market demand which influence customer satisfaction from Rupali Bank Ltd and measures to change the situation. In the current competitive market though different banks are providing different services to grab maximum market share, still customers have their own evaluation or judgment to find the satisfaction level of the service provided by the banks. Market demand depends on customer satisfaction. Analyzing the causes of low market demand is a complex process and sometimes customers even measure their satisfaction based on such factors that they even don’t have clear idea about those issues or factors. The underlying problem in predicting customer choice resides much more in the fact that market demand depends on many different criteria simultaneously, including brand, service and product quality, performance, price, features, and so on. This problem is further confounded in service applications, where customers may consider intangible features and characteristics of the market offerings for e.g., service quality, benefits, safety and trust; interactions between service providers and customers. Thus, incorporating customer preferences and choices into day-to-day managerial decisions is extremely important for today’s highly competitive environment...

...Monetary Policy and Capital Market Development in Bangladesh Policy Note: PN 0708 Shubhasish Barua* and Md. Habibour Rahman* Abstract Bangladesh Bank (BB) adjusted its monetary policy stance during 2005 in order to contain inflationary pressures and facilitate stability in the foreign exchange market. At the end of 2005, interest rates on NSD certificates were also adjusted upward. The latter development, however, raised some concern among different economic agents regarding its possible impact on the country's capital market. In this paper we attempt to closely inspect the evolvement of monetary policy and capital market indicators in recent years and their possible interrelationship to shed some light on the issue. Since prices of stocks are mainly determined by company fundamentals, monetary policy can have only short term effect on stock prices. Even in the short run, effect of interest rates on stock prices is less clear-cut, and in a less developed capital market like Bangladesh, stock prices do tend to respond, for short term, to new reform measures and government incentives. 1. Introduction Bangladesh Bank (BB) adjusted its monetary policy stance during 2005 in order to contain inflationary pressures and facilitate stability in the foreign exchange market. At the end of 2005, interest rates on NSD certificates (government borrowing instruments from the non-bank public) were also adjusted upward. The latter development, however, raised some concern among different...

...transformation that means the change is happening so fast and Bangladesh is adopting the modern method of banking appropriately. Since it has been launched, online banking is getting more and more popular. Online banking pioneers in Bangladesh are the multinational banks but other local banks (both the public and private) followed the trend almost in a paralleled way. A number of private as well as local banks are going online now considering the demand and necessity of fast banking. Online banking not only provides banking facility for 24 hours, moreover it helps countries to get attached with one another and helps to advance in trade and commerce. It actually helps to be interlinked, to go global and to stay updated with the current money and asset management techniques. The online banking is also referred as Electronic banking or Internet banking. As the world is going global so people from different countries are now getting engaged in business and other activities thus they now need very fast and easy access to bank accounts to fulfill the exchange formalities. ...Financial companies do not offer deposit services; rather they source their funds through borrowing from banks and other money market sources by issuing commercial papers and bonds. Due to its dependence on borrowed money for sourcing, finance companies hold more equity than banks for the purpose of signaling solvency to potential creditors. Finance companies offer loans of small denomination to consumers and since they have quite high credit rating, they are able to borrow at a low interest rate from other lending institutions and therefore are able to offer their loans at reasonable rates. They are different from banks in that they provide loans and credit facilities to consumers and firms who otherwise have a non-sufficient credit record to secure loans from banks; however the interest rate they charge is higher than banks. The emergence of finance companies was mainly due to bank’s refusal to lend out small loans to firms and consumers. Finance companies has since then evolved to provide both sales-finance and consumer loan services. Sales-finance companies mainly operate by purchasing unpaid customer accounts at a discount from sales firms, and collecting payments due from the customers on a periodic basis therefore providing installment financing to consumers and firms. Finance companies generally tend to interest rate sensitive, i.e., any increase or decrease in the market interest rates have high influence in their profitability. Types of finance companies The three...

...Abstract Businesses today face heightened expectations around their role in society and the world, with turning a profit only one of many criteria by which performance is measured. Rising in importance is the impact a company has on its stakeholders, society, and even the planet. Integrated reporting, which encompasses elements of traditional financial reporting, sustainability reporting, and governance reporting within a single presentation, represents a growing trend that reflects these new expectations. The core concept underlying the term “integrated reporting” is providing one report that fully integrates a company’s financial and non-financial (including environmental, social, governance and intangibles) information. Integrated reporting offers the opportunity to centre business reporting on strategy and value creation, to demonstrate how the business uses capital and the extent to which they should continue to be invested in business. Integrated reporting is a journey. Organizations are unlikely to achieve perfection in the first year. In the absence of a generally accepted framework, companies that wish to move toward integrated reporting may encounter several dilemmas around relevance, scope, assurance and other issues. However, as reporting processes for the production of the supporting information are designed and improved and as the executive team begins to benefit from a more informed implementation of the governing structures’ decision, reporting will improve...

...Privatization on Service Sector Preface We know that the countries which are developed today are getting very strong in service sector day by day. Without having a very significant service sector it is impossible to retain the development of the economy of a country. Service sector is the accelerator of an economy. And Bangladesh is one of the least developed countries of the world with a huge number of different problems but most importantly with an emerging service sector. Really this is a great tonic for this underdeveloped country on the way of development. So to utilize this potential setting up of a lot of service organization is needed. But the service organization should not be public rather private. Because we all know about the poor service quality and negative profit of the public service organizations of Bangladesh. So the privatization of service sector is one of our desired initiatives. It is one of the leading aspects with a very bright potential to boost-up the economy of this third-world poor country. Prepared by: Md. Abdul Hai – 07882860 Essence of Privatization Despite a significant degree of public ownership in health, education, communication, utilities and energy sectors in the pre-independence period, Bangladesh inherited basically a private sector dominated economy at the time of independence in 1971. A set of three inter-related reasons are put forward as rationale for privatization in Bangladesh. These are: • Improvement of the governments’ fiscal...

...almost reached the stage of a matured market. However, there are still substantial segments of potential clientele who are not serviced by any microfinance organization (MFI). Inadequate finance is one of the most important reasons MFIs have not reach these clients. Fund shortage is more prevalent among the smaller MFIs. Moreover, due to the scaling up of microenterprises of the existing clients, they are requiring larger loan amounts. On the other hand, though the formal financial organizations are burdened with significant amounts of excess liquidity, they are not in a position to directly provide services to microcredit clients - it is not viable. Even funding operations of smaller MFIs directly, are out of their reach. In such a situation, an effective linkage between the MFIs with financial constraint and banks with excess liquidity is a simple but highly effective solution. In addition to its very high population density, the country has a limited natural resource base and is subject to regular natural disasters such as floods and cyclones. ...Modern banks play an important part in promoting economic development of a country. Banks provide necessary funds for executing various programs underway in the process of economic development. They collect savings of large masses of people scattered through out the country, which in the absence of banks would have remained idle and unproductive. These scattered amounts are collected, pooled together and made available to commerce and industry for meeting the requirements. Economy of Bangladesh is in the group of world’s most undeveloped economies. One of the reasons may be its undeveloped banking system. ...INTRODUCTORY ISSUES Chapter -1 1.1 Introduction: In general sense we mean “Bank” as a financial institution that deals with money. But when we use the term bank it generally means ‘commercial bank’ that collects the Deposit from surplus unit of the society and then lends the deposits to the deficit units of the society. From very first emergence and inception of modern civilization, Bank plays a pivotal role in case of overall financial and socioeconomic development of any modern country. The basic functions of bank are deposit extraction and credit extension. Credit is the nub of banking business. It helps this kind of organizations to earn around 80% of the total revenue. Managing credit operation, thus, is the crying need for any bank. In case of failure in credit management, a bank may face extinction. It is, therefore, necessary that a bank has a proper credit profile that guides the credit operation of the bank in an effective manner. For proper management of credit each and every bank follows the profile for smooth approval, direction, monitoring and review of lending operation. Bank’s may fall into engulfing crisis or may wind up with consumption of capital if they do not practice proper Appraisal and approval process and loan classification and provisioning system on their advance. Appraisal and approval process of a bank loan application involve a series of activities. These activities reveal a true element of banking intermediation...
