When it comes to learning, most people would agree that to fully understand and grasp a concept, actually doing that concept will allow you to learn the most. Our group feels as though this is especially true when it comes to the concepts we have learned from both Theatre Experience and Literature and the Stage. From script writing to acting to blocking and more, we have learned so much from this final. We were given the novel Lucy Gayheart which we read in Dr. Sisson’s class, and our paper will discuss our entire process from start to finish of how we developed this book into a theatrical production.

The acting out of the important themes is seen in scenes such as scene three when Lucy suddenly reacts differently to the thought of Harry than she did before and then furthermore, his dismissal of her when not agreeing to give her a ride on his carriage. These scenes allow the audience to analyze the characters instead of the play being told the story as a narrative. With the final proper balance of direct sources of information and acting, our play is able to effectively reveal the messages and themes of the original novel. One specific example being once again, scene three, when in addition to Lucy speaking to the audience she also reacts to the contents of the letter she reads from Harry before then reacting to the inevitability of him as a part of her life implied by his entrance into the scene, a reaction that is only seen by the …show more content…
While creating our Playbill, the Playbill for The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime and the Playbill for The Band’s Visit were used to understand and create an order of elements within our Playbill as well as to understand placement of additional elements such as advertisements, photos, and shapes. Our Playbill’s cover includes individuals skating on a lake, cracking ice, and the title of the production which relate respectively to Lucy’s passion of skating, Lucy’s death by drowning, and clearly the title of the novel. Adobe’s Photoshop was used to edit the photo of individuals skating on ice and the photo of ice cracking together and to match each other as well as to add the text that reads “Lucy Gayheart” in a cursive typeface that was chosen specifically due to the setting of the story in the early
