Macronutrients are split into three different types which includes proteins, fats and carbohydrates. Macronutrients are used as a main source of energy as it provides energy in a large amount to help the body function.
Carbohydrates help to provide the body with energy when it's broken down into glucose.Carbs help the body to function as well as helping with daily activities and it also helps stop protein being used as energy.Carbohydrates are split into two different types which are simple and complex carbohydrates.Simple carbohydrates consist of mainly sugars, examples of these carbs would be candy,honey and table sugar which these provide energy very quickly and are also broken down very quickly.Simple carbs would be helpful when energy is needed very quickly such as during a game.The other type of carbohydrates is complex which is made up of mainly starches and fibers which help to provide the body with energy for a long period of time therefore makes them long lasting examples of these would be potatoes, oats and bread. …show more content…
Proteins are made up of two different types which are complete and incomplete proteins. Complete proteins consists of essential amino acids which are needed by the body because they cannot be produced by the body.Complete proteins are usually found in milk, meat and other animal products as well as some plants/vegetables. This is intended to broaden my views of a healthy lifestyle, and how to achieve it through a variety of food groups. During the 3 days food intake, I ate chicken, steak, beans, eggs and turkey which provided proteins. For carbohydrates I had: wheat bread, potatoes, lettuce, carrots, milk, apples, pasta, and white rice. Finally for lipids I had: vegetable oil, olive oil, regular butter and olives. My recorded protein, carbohydrates and lipids intakes are high compared to the recommendations of the Dietary Reference Intake (DRI) for my body measurements. The DRIs are recommendations for the amounts of energy, nutrients, and other food components that healthy people should consume in order to stay healthy, reduce the risk of chronic disease, and prevent deficiencies (Grosvenor & Smolin, 2012). Since my carbohydrates, lipids and proteins are high, I recommend eliminating the steak and any parts of the turkey and chicken which produces excess of fat. I would add more organically proteins and lean meats. I will definitely eliminate fat foods and will emphasize in low fat – low carbohydrate foods. I ate both high quality and low quality proteins, and when combine both provided complimentary proteins.
