...Robert Frost is one of America’s most beloved poets, and "Mending Wall" is one of his most popular poems. This poem tells the tale of a rock wall which sits between two properties in the countryside. Something continually destroys this rock wall. A compelling aspect of "Mending Wall" is the Frostian sense of mystery and loneliness. What begins as a quest to discover the identity of the wall-destroyer, ends in a meditation on the value of tradition and boundaries. "Mending Wall" is the first poem in North of Boston, Frost’s second book of poetry. This book was published when Frost was in England, rubbing elbows with the likes of W.B. Yeats, T.S. Eliot, andEzra Pound. Frost was a contemporary of many modernist poetic movements, but he isn’t associated with any particular group of poets. He marched to his own drummer, and as a result, he garnered a good deal of criticism from the literary world. But, it is precisely because he was such an individual and his voice so original that Frost became so beloved. Born in San Francisco, Frost moved to Massachusetts at age eleven following his father’s death. He attended both Dartmouth College and Harvard University, but never earned a college degree. He was, however, often invited to teach at Dartmouth and Harvard later on in his life. You know you’re good when you get to teach college students without having a diploma yourself. After spending some time in England, Frost befriended a lot of poetic giants, including William Butler Yeats...

...A wall of text is something that is frowned upon in most, actually virtually all Internet societies, including forums, chat boards, and Uncyclopedia. You should not make walls of text because it can get you banned anywhere unless it is a place that encourages walls of text. I highly doubt any place does support something so irritating and annoying, but anything can exist, but not really because unless you are in heaven then that can happen. But no one actually knows that was just a hypothesis, a lame one that is. Actually not really lame. You can create a wall of text supporting site, but you would be hated if you do that, so do not. But you can if you like, but I discourage that. Now on to the actual information of walls of texts. The wall of text was invented when the Internet was invented, but actually it was slow at that time. So whenever it became fast. But there would need to be some free or not free community for people, and that community would be able to have walls of text. But that community probably wouldn't have actually invented the wall of text. So basically, no one except God and Al Gore knows when or where or how the wall of text existed/was invented. Noobs probably invented, but probably not. Who knows. Walls of texts are usually filled with a lot of useless information and junk. Information and junk can be the same, but only if the information is junk or the junk is information. But who cares. The information/junk inside a wall of text are usually related to...

...A stone wall separates the speaker’s property from his neighbor’s. In spring, the two meet to walk the wall and jointly make repairs. The speaker sees no reason for the wall to be kept—there are no cows to be contained, just apple and pine trees. He does not believe in walls for the sake of walls. The neighbor resorts to an old adage: “Good fences make good neighbors.” The speaker remains unconvinced and mischievously presses the neighbor to look beyond the old-fashioned folly of such reasoning. His neighbor will not be swayed. The speaker envisions his neighbor as a holdover from a justifiably outmoded era, a living example of a dark-age mentality. But the neighbor simply repeats the adage. The image at the heart of “Mending Wall” is arresting: two men meeting on terms of civility and neighborliness to build a barrier between them. They do so out of tradition, out of habit. Yet the very earth conspires against them and makes their task Sisyphean. Sisyphus, you may recall, is the figure in Greek mythology condemned perpetually to push a boulder up a hill, only to have the boulder roll down again. These men push boulders back on top of the wall; yet just as inevitably, whether at the hand of hunters or sprites, or the frost and thaw of nature’s invisible hand, the boulders tumble down again. Still, the neighbors persist. The poem, thus, seems to meditate conventionally on three grand themes: barrier-building (segregation, in the broadest sense of the word), the doomed nature of...

...Fences Make Good Neighbors If a fence is between two houses, it is usually there to help keep the peace and to aid in keeping different peoples’ lives separate, usually resulting in two happy, ordinary lives. As Robert Frost says in “Mending Wall”, “Good fences make good neighbors.”(27), which implies exactly what it’s saying, a fence between two people will keep them in good terms. Although it talks about fences between neighbors, it can go into a further context, such as a mental barrier between two friends or a wall between nations. The reason a barrier or wall between two people is good for them is because it helps keep conflicting ideas and beliefs separate and makes lives easier. Fences do make good neighbors because of different outcomes it can help achieve. A mental barrier between two people is healthy in any type of relationship for various reasons. In Robert Frost’s “Mending Wall” he says, “We keep the wall between us as we go / To each the boulders that have fallen to each” (15-16). It may be that the first line gives the thought that wherever two people go, there will always be a wall between them, keeping each other’s ideas separate, but keeping them, as people, together. “Boulders” may symbolize heavy events that have happened to a pair that caused the wall between them to strengthen and help them achieve greater things further in life. The poem also reads, “Before I built a wall I’d ask to know / What I was walling in or walling out,” (33-34). This can symbolically...

...Course: Date: The Great Wall of China painting by William Simpson The Great Wall of China is an extremely significant item of art with exemplary features that would make any artist outstanding if he or she was able to fit extensive elements like color, shape, space and symbolism as show in the wall. One of the main artists who engaged in painting the wall is William Simpson who was from Scotland. Simpson was born in Glasgow in an extremely poor background. Simpson is an extremely unique artist of his time. He was born in 1823 and died in 1899 (Simpson, 2007). Simpson went to school in Perth, where he undertook the formal education. After school, Simpson was employed in a lithographic firm. The first artistic work that Simpson was engaged in is where he was required to develop an image of the Alma that was based on various features that had to be involved in the image. The image was to be used in a lithography work by a London publisher. Simpson was also involved in the artwork for the development of images that represented Colnaghi images, and the fall of Sebastopol. The other image that was drawn by Simpson is the Bombardment of Bomarsund (Simpson, 2007). This is an indication that Simpson was an extremely famous and skilled artist. One of the most distinctive features in any piece of art is color. It is exemplary in the development of an image. One of the major roles of color is to indicate the real representation of a given art work. The Great Wall of China is representation...

...Good Fences Do Make Good Neighbors Is it necessary to build a fence if we trust our neighbors? If a fence is necessary, it should be a good fence. Not meant to be a barricade, but to prevent our neighbors from invading our privacy. It is also used to give one the right to do what they please on their property without any disruption or interruption from their neighbors. This is what is being discussed in Robert Frost’s poem the “Mending Wall.” Having a good fence allows for privacy and is the right of a homeowner. “The central theme of "Mending Wall" is whether it is wise to erect walls and other types of barriers.” not this period (Cummings, 2008).this period is correct An immediate reading seems to suggest that walls or fences are obstacles and if you tear them down you can open up the door to friendship, unity, and better communication. Nevertheless, the one neighbor insists that “good fences make good neighbors.” same here (Davis and Lynn, 2006, p. 82). The destruction of the Berlin Wall in 1989 demonstrates the point that Frost is trying to make that walls or barriers are obstacles. The Berlin Wall, which had divided Berlin since 1961, "fell" on November 9. For almost 30 years, the Wall and the heavily fortified border between East and West Germany kept East Germans as prisoners in their own country, tore families apart, and caused many deaths when East Germans were shot trying to flee. I am not going continue to correct them as you get the point by...

WALL-E was a movie created by Pixar to challenge themselves and as well as the world. It was released in 2008 and was directed by Andrew Stanton. It was written by Andrew Stanton and Pete Docter and the movie starred Ben Burtt as WALL-E, Elissa Knight as EVE, and Jeff Garlin as the Captain (of the ship called Axiom). Working along with Pixar Animation Studios, Walt Disney Pictures released WALL-E in Canada and the United States on June 27, 2008, and it blew the competition out of the water as it made $23.2 million on its opening day, $63 million on its opening weekend in almost four thousand theatres, all the while coming in first...

...Osborn Ms. Chavis 1113/18699 October 2, 2015 Walls Are Not Necessary In Modern Society The definition of a “wall” in society is a means of separation between things that should be together. There are many types of “walls” in society today which include, but are not limited to, prejudice and separation. “Walls” like that do more harm than good to our society. Some people may think otherwise, saying that many metaphorical walls need to separate us in order to keep peace between certain things. Whether it be countries or certain groups of people. The other half of people that think differently, think that there would be no need for these “walls” if we could get rid of them slowly and find a way for everyone to work together. These barriers tend to have overall negative effects on people if they don’t have any “wiggle” room. These enclosures limit the freedom of an individual. They are no longer able to move about freely when you have certain barricades in the way. Next, dividers limit the person’s mindset. “Walls” can cause people to feel less than important by restricting their freedom of thought. And last, obstructions can end up causing problems or altercations. This is caused when a barrier is broken and the individual has to overcome the impending hurdles being thrown at them. “Walls” are not necessary in society because they limit freedom to “roam,” freedom to think, and they force people to have conflicts. “Good fences make good neighbors.” This is what the neighbor said...

...Mending Wall, by Robert Frost portrays the routines of two neighbors who are constantly mending the fence, or wall, that separates their properties. If a stone is missing from the fence, you can bet that the two men are out there putting it back together piece by piece. Frost presents to the reader the ideas of barriers between people, communication, friendship and the sense of security people gain from barriers. Robert Frost was born March 26, 1874 in California. He became interested in poetry after moving to Massachusetts at the age of eleven. His first published poem was My Butterfly in 1894. A year later, Frost married Elinor Miriam White. They moved to England where Robert met Ezra Pound, a poet who helped get the word out about Frost’s talent. Three years later Robert and Elinor moved back to the United States where Frost was already known after having published two collections, one named North of Boston. Mending Wall was part of this collection. During his writing career in poetry, Frost won four Pulitzer Prizes. After running a farm in New England, Frost’s writing became heavily influenced by the beautiful landscape around him. His writing often included nature. He appeared to write about situations individuals find themselves in no matter the time period. Robert Faggen states, "As a narrative poet, Frost is considered accessible for students and poetry readers of all ages. A close analysis of Frost's poems, however, reveals that Frost indeed is a deceptively simple...

Border patrol men risk their lives everyday just to keep our borders safe. The protection of the United States and Mexico border is at stake and we need to do something about it. The main purpose of building the massive border wall is based around the security of the United States and maintaining a safe environment for our citizens. Thousands of illegal Mexican immigrants flee into America each and everyday without anyone knowing. Thousands of dollars worth of illegal drugs are being smuggled into America also with the immigrants. As Nacla stated, “the country must be protected from the terrorists, drug cartels, insurgents, or suicide bombers lurking on the other side.” (Jones 1). This is when you are face to face with a wall. A wise man, named Randy Pausch, once said, “The brick walls are there for a reason. The brick walls are not there to keep us out. The brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. Because the brick walls are there to stop the people who don’t want it badly enough. They’re there to stop the other people,” in The Last Lecture. This means that at one point an obstacle will be placed in front of you, and you will either overcome it, or be deterred. Over the past few decades, politicians from both sides of the political spectrum in the United States have tried, unsuccessfully, to make substantial immigration reform. President Trump may have a keen advantage in tackling this issue, because the electorate has become somewhat immune to whatever he says. His shocking statements and comments have made most voters numb to whatever he will say next. In other words, he can talk about immigration and a border wall, without worrying too much about his popularity numbers. This leads us to the unique situation that the United States is in now. With a real chance for change in the air,...
