Without a doubt, there is a reason for everything that happens in this life, and while it may be difficult to comprehend at first, all things lead up to a point where you are forced to make a decision. This is when you are face to face with a wall. A wise man, named Randy Pausch, once said, “The brick walls are there for a reason. The brick walls are not there to keep us out. The brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. Because the brick walls are there to stop the people who don’t want it badly enough. They’re there to stop the other people,” in The Last Lecture. This means that at one point an obstacle will be placed in front of you, and you will either overcome it, or be deterred. It may seem common for a student to neglect their homework, however, I was foolish and lazy. My foolishness caused me to take pre-algebra, and now I'm playing catch-up. I'm currently doubling up on maths: taking both Geometry Honors, and Algebra II Honors. Even though it's standard to take Geometry in the tenth grade, I've found it to be a hindrance. My brother, Michael LaLonde, has always excelled in mathematics, but I'm only subpar. Despite being my own person, I'm constantly compared to Michael, and it feels as if I'm in his academic shadow. So while this fierce animal has grown in strength and size, it's mental wall has blocked them from reaching a freedom that could motivate others to be wild. People give up so easily now, as I did in the eighth grade, and I'm honestly glad I did. While I may not be as good at math as Michael is, I know my strengths. I'm capable of handling two math classes at once, managing my time, and I've learned that I'm a better English student than him. And even though Michael and I are trying to scale completely different walls at once, we give each other strength. Without Michael, I would've never pushed myself to be the student I am today. I let go of my jealously, rid myself of the walls I set around myself, and let Michael be the good brother he is to me. He is my inspiration. Knowing he faces walls, and still decides to help me when I'm struggling, is a fact that I will be forever grateful for. Walls in my life have been challenging obstacles, but also a blessing, because I've realized who and what is important in my
