In the after is a book about a girl named Amy Harris, she lives a life like any other teenager. She goes to school every day and just can’t stand her annoying parents. One day everything changed. From that day forward, nothing would ever be the same.
It all started on Saturday, which was lucky, because otherwise Amy would probably not be alive. Saturday was when she first saw them. It was when she watched television and was scrolling through the channels. When she got stuck on the news she saw that the President where holding a speech about some sort of attack. “She didn’t really understand or didn’t want to know what was happening, but she knew it was going to change everything. She could not stand the thought that her parents might have been torn apart just like those poor people on the TV. The feeling that she might not have anyone left, made her cry and she couldn’t stop.
Amy was lucky that her mother was working with the government and that her very secretive job demanded protection such as electric fences around the house. Not to mention that her father was an extreme environment defender (?). He had put up solar panels which made the lamps and stove etcetera keep running. The house also had an installed purifier that cleaned rainwater so it became drinkable.
Every time she made a noise, she could hear them against the electric fence, and it scared her because she knew that at some point she had to go out there. When the food ran out she had to go out scavenging in order to stay …show more content…
She had to leave into the night since the creatures’ vision aren’t really good, and especially not during the night. Daytime had become the time to sleep since the creatures were all shuffling through the streets looking for prey. Therefore there were absolutely no way to go out without them noticing you.
When Amy arrived to the shop she was looking in the produce section where she found something she’d never thought she would. It was a child, a 3-4 year old little girl. Her blonde hair were all dirty and her hands digging through a can of peaches. For a few seconds Amy thought of leaving her there but she couldn’t. She knew what was out there and what was going to happen to the baby if she didn’t do anything. Amy picked her up and it was the beginning of a strong bond that eventually was going to grow between them.
Baby became the name of the little child Amy found, and as time passed they started to communicate by sign language. They couldn’t talk because the creatures would hear, so they remained quiet. When baby soon grew older she eventually had to learn how to act outside the house, Amy started to take her out with her to scavenge houses and shops further away. Baby learned and became unbelievably silent in the way she moved around or picked up
