Manage Your Health Inc. is currently considering four unique projects that will take the company in different directions for the future. While the proposed projects all have their benefits, selecting the project that better addresses broad organizational needs is ideal. To do this a weighted scoring model is developed to compare the projects based on 5 main criterion. A chart detailing these criterion and their weighted values can be seen in Exhibit __. In this case, supporting the main business objectives carries a 40% weight or twice the value for Net Present Value (NPV) and four times the value of the weight for duration of implementation. Because the amount of time for implementation is least critical, it is assigned the lowest weight. By assigning a value between 0 and 100 for each project criterion you can see how well each project satisfies these requirements. The Wellness Intranet Project has the highest NPV while fulfilling the key business objectives the most. Because of this, the project is assigned higher scores for these criterion compared to the other projects. By using a spreadsheet we can calculate the weighted score for each project by multiplying each criterion weight by its score and adding the resulting values for each project. The Wellness Intranet Project had the highest score at 87.25, followed by the Web-Enhanced System at 70.25. In this case, these two projects could have been more even had the Web-Enhanced System provided a higher NPV and a lower cost for implementation. Many times it proves difficult selecting a project when many quality choices exist. By using the weighted scoring model you are able to choose the main project criterion and see how each project satisfies or benefits them. The Wellness Intranet Project addresses the main business objectives the most and has a higher overall weighted score compared to the other

Personal Plan to Succeed

...succeeded. “Setting and working toward goals, managing time effectively and dealing with the stresses that often arise through the journey are three aspects of self-management,” (Carter, Bishop, Kravits, 2007) and aspects that take me through life. I said I was going to become a nurse, and I did. I said I was going to open my own business, and I did. I believe success is when you have accomplished a certain goal that you have put your mind to. I believe in that “the knowledge and accomplishment you have built will give you more power to handle the ups and downs of life and to continue on toward your future.”(Carter, Bishop, Kravits, 2007) I believe there are personal and professional goals I have to accomplish. Personal goals and professional goals I have include: finishing my Master’s degree, seeing my daughter finishing her career, and growing in my business. I believe that I am not done expanding my knowledge. Like someone once said, “Being a motivated lifelong learner will allow you to ride the waves of change, remaining able to manage and achieve your evolving career and personal goals.”(Carter, Bishop, Kravits, 2007). Some of the reasons I want to pursue my graduate studies are: I enjoy going to school and learning new things, and that I feel that my career needs some kind of turn and I cannot make it without continuing my education. “Learning something new each day; commit yourself to on-going learning and self-improvement.” (Berg, 1996). Also I will choose to upgrade Windows XP to Windows 7 Professional because Windows XP is more for home use. Windows 7 Professional can be for home and small business use, another great edition of Windows for business would be Windows Enterprise which offers and has the same qualities and needs for a business but more so highly recommended for larger companies/businesses, the Enterprise software cost much more than Windows 7 Professional as well. Windows 7 Professional comes with 64 bit installation, 192 GB of RAM, backup to a network location, EFS (Encryption File System) which is great for any business especially when in the Health Care field because your handling patient information so the EFS would protect all data this would help uphold the HIPPA standards and polices. ...involving live people. (Dewit, 2003) A student may face many challenges and stressors. However, nursing students are likely to experience even “more stress” than their friends and colleagues enrolled in other programs.  To support this statement, a study comparing the stress levels of various professional students found that nursing students experience higher levels of stress than medical, social work and pharmacy students (Beck, et al.1997). Even more poignant, another study showed that “one third” of nursing students experience stress severe enough to induce mental health problems such as anxiety and depression. (Pryjmachuk, 2004). One source of stress of nursing students is their Learning Experience. The related learning experience is a series of planned activities in the community that would prepare students technically and professionally should they decide to pursue higher education in the health profession. Specifically, in a selected College of nursing, BSN students spend a maximum of 24 hours a week for their duty wherein they engage in activities such as nurse-patient interaction, nursing procedures, construction of Concept Map, Nursing Care Plan and Drug Study, individual conference with their clinical instructors, and ward class. According to Kaplan (1993), the burnout behaviors of students are characterized by reduction in their performance. Students were found to be maintaining a façade of high achieving while succumbing to physical illness and emotional...

Roles and Functions

...Roles and Functions Latonya Jackson HCS/ 325 September 2, 2013 Michelle Crumby Introduction Healthcare managers play a vital role in the day to day operations in a healthcare facility or environment. The functions that healthcare managers must possess in order to be successful in maintaining the vision of the organization are planning, leading, controlling and organizing. Healthcare is constantly growing and it is important for there to be good managers who can plan ahead, delegate job responsibilities, and organize the staff to complete their tasks accurately and effectively. Four Major Functions in Management One of the four major functions in management is planning. When planning a manager must first think about the goals and vision of the organization and how to best take the necessary steps to accomplish all goals. Planning allows managers to make good decisions as well as helping them keep track of their department’s progress toward the perception of their organization. Another major function in management is leading. According to Lombardi, Schermerhorn and Kramer (2007), “Leading is the process of arousing people’s enthusiasm to work hard to fulfill plans and accomplish objectives. Through leading, managers build commitments, encourage activities that support goals, and influence others to do their best work on the organization’s behalf”. In my opinion managers have to be good leaders as well; in order to effectively assist their staff in performing their...
