Management of Thought, Breath and Time

Today, we are standing at such a juncture where many of us are busy managing or mending external resources or people, but hardly think it is necessary to manage our own important never ending resources like our thoughts, breath & time!

Let’s start with THOUGHTS – the thing which all of us have in plenty but most of us never give a THOUGHT on managing our THOUGHTS! Faster than sound or light our mind can travel at great speed to any corner of the universe without us moving an inch! Our own thoughts give us happiness or sadness, without the need for any stimulus. We often wander in to the past or future without appreciating the present, causing misery. This misery is the result of our mind not seeing the beauty in front of us but instead, wandering in imagination and seeing things that are not in front of us.

So why should we manage our thoughts? The mind is constantly engaged in the waking state and even in the dreaming state. As such, it has no rest at all. Naturally, a restless mind is the cause for blood pressure. A mind that is constantly engaged is responsible for diabetes. Too much worry and too much anxiety are the causes of cardiac complaints and heart diseases.. The mind expresses its pain through the body by the way of ailments or diseases which are nothing but expressions of a restless and agitated mind. Most of the hospitals are very, very busy because of the over active mind of the individuals

How can we manage our thoughts? There are several techniques prescribed for channelizing our thoughts the most simplest one being ‘Silent sitting’. This method is as simple as sitting quietly and observing our thoughts. It is a great way to observe what is going on in our monkey mind.
