Marigolds: Marigolds are native to South America, Mexico and the southwestern United States. Marigolds tend to have bright orange and yellow blooms. Depending on the type of marigold, they can grow from six to forty- eight inches tall, with a spread of six to thirty- six inches wide. The tallest marigolds which are called American marigolds have grown up to five feet tall. Marigolds normally grow in the seasons of spring, summer, and autumn. They are sensitive to the cold and will not survive a frost. The variety of colors that marigolds can include are orange, red, maroon, yellow, or mixed. They also tend to have a strong aroma. Of all the marigolds, there are four common species: African or American marigolds, French Marigolds, triploids, and single marigolds. Marigolds should be grown in the months of March of April. Marigolds grow best if they are planted in full sun, and they should be planted in well- drained soil.
