Mary Rowand's experience during her captivity is a metaphor for a devout Puritan society because it was suppose to be a wilderness town of two-story garrison houses built as a fortress to endure Native American attacks and large enough to house mutiple families. On the day during King Philp's War , minister was traveling to appeal for more protection for his community. In the attack every home was destroyed by fire, and Mary and their three children were taken captive. Mary was probably expected a safe place to live and a happy home but ended up getting captive. The metaphor is the story saying how the houses suppose to be safe and homes to where Natives couldnt destroy them. However, those houses still got destroyed by the Natives anyways
