The Truth About Mindfulness

You may have heard of the word mindful and that people practice mindfulness to help them get through their everyday lives.

What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is the ability to be present, know where you are in the moment and what you are doing at this time. It is also about not becoming overwhelmed or overreacting to things that happen in our lives. Everyone has mindfulness inside them but just have to learn how to tap into it.

Who Is It For?

It is for anyone but it can especially help people with certain health issues. People who have Cancer as well as other chronic issues can benefit from being mindful and practicing mindfulness. A study by Labelle, Cambell, Ferrs and Carleson found that people who participated …show more content…
A study by Costa and Barnhofer that was published in 2016 found that people with depression who learned how to be mindful were able to control their emotions as well as reduce their symptoms of depression better than people who learned guided imagery relaxation. In a study by Forkmann, Brakemeier, Teismann, Schramm and Michalak found that mindfulness was more effective than regular treatment for reducing suicidal thoughts .

How Can It Help Me?

Mindfulness can help your body in many different ways, below are four ways. One way is by keeping you healthy. In a study by Wollny, Jacobs, Sim and Horsch that examined how two areas of mindfulness can influence behaviors related to health found that mindfulness made people complete more healthy activities such as buckling their seat belt or make them want to do these behaviors.

A second way is to cause people to have lower blood pressure. Tomfohr, Pung, Mills and Edwards ran a study that found that there was a link between mindfulness and lower blood pressure. This was the case when the person's doctor was able to not judge or not react.

A third way, according to a study in the journal titled Frontiers in Human Neuroscience. is making it possible for people to have better control over how they process emotions and pain. This happens because our body is able to control what senses it gives its attention to through the cortical alpha
