...ARMY AVIATION OPERATIONS IN LOW INTENSITY CONFLICT Introduction “Foot slogging” by infantrymen has been most important and fundamental to address an insurgency; however, there are limitations to their mobility. To increase their versatility, the Portuguese introduced two contrasting means, the helicopter and the horse. While there were other, more conventional solutions to the mobility problem, such as trucks, jeeps, and light armored cars, these vehicles required at least crude roads, had other terrain limitations, and were vulnerable to land mines. The advent of the helicopter and its application in counter-insurgency began with the British in Malaya on 1 April 1950, with the formation of the Far East Casualty Air Evacuation Flight at Seletar with strength of three Westland S-51 Dragonfly helicopters. During the Malayan Emergency the British used their helicopters primarily for casualty evacuation and later for airlifting troops. Question that looms ahead for the future, no matter what the outcome in Jammu and Kashmir, and North Eastern States, is how the army aviation succeeds against fierce insurgency in strategy and capabilities. The Taliban’s resurgence, tenacious resistance against NATO forces in Afghanistan, Al Qaeda’s ability to elude United States forces, and the trouble Israel has had in trying to subdue violence in tiny Southern Lebanon (Hezbollah) and tinier Gaza (Hamas) deepen concern that even world’s finest militaries have problems against any kind...

...responsible for managing, using, transporting and processing information in the organization. MIS is used to effectively solve problems in business on all levels for all areas. MIS can be compared to the study of Computer Science, the study of design, implementation, deployment, and evaluation of computer systems. Although, there are similarities, MIS focuses on the business environment as a way to use computers and similar technology for an organization. MIS has come a very long way through the years. There are six different eras that catalog the evolution. The first era began with the standalone mainframe. Users would use a punch card to type programs. They then would give the punch cards to the MIS personnel to input the information into the mainframe. The second era came about by the introduction of the hard-wired terminal. Users would input programs onto electronic keyboards; MIS personnel would maintain keyboards, known as dumb terminals, and the communication to the mainframe. The PC brought about the third era. Users would bring PCs to work and MIS personnel’s job functions became more complicated as they were asked to help with problems associated with these early PSs. As organizations realized the amount of productivity gain from having PCs, LANS and Enterprise Networks were beginning to be used in the fourth era. LANS WANS and Enterprise Networks complicated the MIS department further as users connected with each other. The fifth era was brought about...

...INTRODUCTION TO MIS Management Information System plays a very important role in an organization. There is hardly a business magazine that dos not contain article about information system. MIS can be defined as – “A system which collects, processes, stores and distributes information to help in decision making for managerial functions.” (Planning, staffing, directing, controlling, organizing and budgeting) It may also be defined as Integrated user/ Machine system for providing information to support the decision making process. MIS is a computer based system, which presents both external and internal information of business. This system utilizes computer hardware and software, manual procedure for analysis, planning, control and decision making. These system do not take decisions but they assist in providing a necessary information as an input to the decision making process. MIS should provide information which is consistent, accurate, timely, economically flexible and relevant. MIS can be computerized or manual. MIS provides information in report format on regular basis to assist managers with decision which occur frequently and can be anticipated. MANAGEMENT Management has been defined in a variety of ways, but for our purpose it compromises the processes or activities that describes what managers do in the operation of their organization; plan, organize, initiative and control operations. ...Nikki Vanessa V. Novales July 20, 2012 # 2012-42443 PI 10 E2-6R Rizal: Hidden Beneath The Surface A Reaction Paper On “Bayaning 3rd World” “Who is Rizal?” If you ask this question to any Filipino, they will most likely say, “He is our national hero” Or “He’s the person stamped on our 1-peso coin”. But is that all he really is? The movie “Bayaning 3rd World” is about two film makers trying to make a movie about Rizal. They found out, however, that this would not be an easy task, for their subject is a very complicated man. Rather than focusing on a single issue about Rizal, they decided to make a detective story about Rizal being the country’s national hero. They tackled several issues but focused mainly on Rizal’s retraction and Josephine Bracken. The movie was meant to be educational, but unlike most documentaries, “Bayaning 3rd World” is definitely not boring. The documentary was presented in a comical way, so that viewers of all ages would be able to understand it and grasp its meaning. I was confused at first because I didn’t know what the “Retraction Controversy” was and the two film makers started having these long conversations about it without explaining it to the viewers. But when I found out what it was all about, following the flow of the story became easy. Another controversy that arose was about Josephine Bracken, on whether she and Rizal were married or not. It was implied that if they were indeed married, then Rizal retracted...

...MI Inventory Paper PSYCH 538 MI Inventory Paper Kathiann Kowalski (2001) contends, “When it comes to describing people's learning styles, one thing is clear: Because everybody's brain is different, learning styles vary widely” (para.4). Learning styles are an important aspect to individual learning. The ability to recognize personal learning styles and identify strengths and weaknesses enables individuals to reach optimal success. Optimizing personal learning style leaves room for improvement. Learning styles vary and not everyone learns the same way. It is beneficial to evaluate learning styles in order to be productive in any learning or work environment. In 1983, Dr. Howard Gardner, a professor of neuroscience and psychologist at Harvard University developed the theory of Multiple Intelligences. Individuals have various make-ups, and according to Dr. Gardner each is a unique combination. Dr. Howard Gardner’s theory suggests that there are nine different intelligences. For Gardner, intelligence is: • the ability to create an effective product or offer a service that is valued in a culture; • a set of skills that make it possible for a person to solve problems in life; • the potential for finding or creating solutions for problems, which involves gathering new knowledge. According to the Multiple Intelligence Inventory the results that were strongly identified were Intrapersonal, Logical, and Verbal. Intrapersonal Intelligence...

...UPS GLOBAL OPERATION WITH THE DIAD JANUARY 2016 CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION A management information system (MIS) is a computerized database of financial information organized and programmed in such a way that it produces regular reports on operations for every level of management in a company. It is also possible to obtain special reports from the system easily. But how does the information are being obtain and received throughout the world? Simply because wireless communication takes place. Wireless communication is the transfer of information between two or more points that are not connected by an electrical conductor. The most common wireless technologies use radio. This is actually the process on how UPS are recognized all over the world. It is accessible and easily search and found by the customers because of the wireless communication. BACKGROUND OF STUDY Inter modal transport can be described as the transport of merchandise by at least two transport modes with a minimum of one stage being made by train, by truck, or by maritime modes. In other words, it is a cargo unit that is transferred from a transport mode to a another. The optimal combination of modes allows transporters to achieve what is known as economies of scope. In a majority of cases, the first and/or last steps of the cargo itinerary consist in truck transportation and are to be minimized. More than ever, delivery firms' activities are based on inter modal transport...

...PROBLEM QUESTIONS WEEK 1 Professor Milham- MIS 589 P3. Consider an application that transmits data at a steady rate (for example, the sender generates an N-bit unit of data every k time units, where k is small and fixed). Also, when such an application starts, it will continue running for a relatively long period of time. Answer the following questions, briefly justifying your answer: * a. Would a packet-switched network or a circuit-switched network be more appropriate for this application? Why? For this scenario, circuit switching would work best because you have dedicated channels that will all for uninterrupted transmission even when there are quiet periods (no transfer) on the medium. There are inherent delays with packet switching (setup time, etc.) that are ideal for services such as voice or video streaming. * b. Suppose that a packet-switched network is used and the only traffic in this network comes from such applications as described above. Furthermore, assume that the sum of the application data rates is less than the capacities of each and every link. Is some form of congestion control needed? Why? Yes, this network should still have some measures of congestion control for several reasons. Although the scenario describes a application that runs periodically for a long period of time, it does not provide the number of users, if any, that will be using this same service. Further, there are other types of delays that must be considered such as nodal processing...

...Unit 1 – Understanding MIS Theodora Wilson American InterContinental University Abstract Information systems are used globally with efficient effective ways starting with management as they utilize the four competitive strategies to compete in businesses. The organizations and their use of technology to collaborate and succeed in the market all depends on how their information systems are set up. Introduction Understanding Information systems in the world of businesses assists in creating success for the stock holders, stake holders, and the consumer. This paper will answer questions based on four case studies. The case studies presented are based on smart grids, collaboration and innovation, how much a company knows about you, and the consequences of texting. Case Study I – Smart Grids Smart grids were developed as the twenty-first century automated form of electrical output to consumers. Smart Grids are used to deliver electricity from the supplier to the consumer using digital technology. This means using an automated system through a computer generated information network from power plants and wind farms to the customer in their homes and businesses. Utilizing smart grids in this fashion is different from the current electricity infrastructure as far as not using transmission lines to telephone poles to meters. (Kenneth c. Laudon, 2012) Developing a smart grid requires management of information. Technology is needed to operate the network...
