Mission Impossible…Never It was a bitterly cold and snowy night when I received the devastating phone call from my mom. “What do you mean he looks sick and can’t walk?” I exclaimed while the tears began to well up and stream down my cheeks. My world was coming to an end while listening to my mom describe the horror that she found while feeding my horse. The last thing I remember hearing her tell the vet was, “do whatever it takes to save this horse.” New Bolton animal hospital was IBNs’ new home for the next 3 weeks; which mind you, was not a pretty bill. They tried to convince me that the best thing for him was to put him down. “What…are you crazy!” is the only thing I could think of every time they would tell this. He was by all means very sick and had lost all four of his hooves due to laminitis, an extremely high fever causing a horse to founder. Despite all the hope I had had, New Bolton informed me that IBN would never be able to be ridden again, let alone be sound. I didn’t care, he was my horse. The next year and a half was full of heartache, patience and finally excitement. I was for sure certain his riding and show jumping career was over. This was a lot for a 15 year old to handle. We had been at the top of our game the year before; and the following I had predicated us to be unbeatable. But instead he spent his days in a stall, belly deep in saw dust, unable to walk or lay down because he knew he wouldn’t be able to get back up. IBN may have been home but he wasn’t out of the danger yet. We had our good days and our bad ones too. Show season was right around the corner and it broke my heart knowing he would be sitting on the sidelines. Not only was my heart was torn, but his as well. I would catch glimpses of him looking out in his stall window and watch me ride another horse I would be showing. There wasn’t a day that went by that I didn’t spend with him. The bond we, is what I believe that made him better. It wasn’t my mission to make him better; it was his to get better for me. 7 months later he was strong enough to carry me, bareback that is, in the Gloucester County 4-H Fair costume class. A class that we had won the last 5 years in a row. Well we won it again. It was at that time I realized that we weren’t done. We had a future together and it was going to be great. Talk about patience, and that’s what it would take to make sure IBN stayed sound and came back 100%. I wanted more. He wanted more. But we just had to take our time about things. I had it set in my mind that we would be competing the following year; my last and most important year in my 4-H career. This was going to be my year. We were going to rock the senior division. We had to. There was no, “Don’t worry, you’ll get them next year.” This was it; do or die time. We were going to be awesome. I just wasn’t prepared for what was to come. Even in all the excitement of the up and coming show season, I had asked myself if I was doing the right thing by expecting IBN to perform after all he had been through, or was I being selfish and not putting his feelings first. IBN had proved he was ready and wanted things just as badly as I did. We were a team and we wanted this.
It was show time. The look on my fellow competitors’ faces was priceless when we rolled up to the first show of the season and I backed IBN out of the trailer. Although excited to see IBN back in action; they knew they were doomed. We were always the team to beat; we were unbeatable in the hunter over fence classes. Over the next few months, all had gone as planned. IBN was fantastic in his over fence classes and stayed sound. Hooray! In fact, I believe some time off did him some good. He appeared to have come back better than ever. Like the years before, we had qualified for the New Jersey State 4-H Horse Show, in Flemington, New Jersey, for all of my over fence classes. This show is what you rode and showed all year for. The best of the best in New Jersey qualified for individual classes. We had always qualified, but just always seemed to miss the marks and placing. We had started our day out with a 6th place finish out of 46 in Showmanship and Grooming class. This is something never in a million years would I ever think was possible. This class was our kryptonite. This had to be a sign of what was about to unfold. It was going to be good day. I just was not prepared for what was about to happen. The order of go was posted and we were last, 48th. Oh the agony of waiting and watching. Too much time for the nerves to build up and take over. It was finally our turn. And just like that I black out with a blink of an eye. I realize we have already saluted the judges and performing our courtesy circle when I was able to finally clear my head. It’s funny how the mind (even if it’s not all there) and body can work together simultaneously, while being carried by a 1200lb. animal that knows his job as well. Now that is team work. The first job is the most important jump of the course. This sets the mood for the rest of the course. The judge will either forget you or remember you. You want to be remembered. Right here, right now, it’s do or die time. We were perfect. There was nothing different that I would have done. I knew we rode our last over fence course together flawlessly. And the judges thought so too. We were the NJ State 4-H Working Hunter Champions. There were no words to explain at the time how I felt. All I knew and cared about was that we did it. The tears of joy were soon replaced with tears of sadness, for I knew IBN jumped his last course. He would be retiring in a month after the NJ State 4-H Competitive 25 Mile Trail Ride; our final ride together.
At the end of the State Trail Ride we were named Best Trail Horse, Best Managed Horse, Bets Conditioned Horse, High Point Senior Rider, High Point Trail Horse, all totaling to the award of #1 Horse and Rider Combination in the state of New Jersey. This award landed us the captain of the New Jersey trail ride team that had qualified us to represent New Jersey at the National 4-H Trail Ride, which was held in Virginia that year. Even though we had excepted the award, I regrettably declined the honor for fear that IBN would have to be pushed farther in his training and conditioning for that ride. IBN had already gone above and beyond any of my expectations in his recovery and healing process. He deserved to go out at the top of his game. Without him by my side, I would not have been able to accomplish what we had. IBN spent the next year and a half out to pasture enjoying the rest of his days. We may have had our ups and our downs, but when we were up, we were unbeatable and when we were down, we didn’t give up. We had a mission and we both saw it out.

Mission Impossible 4 - Review

...Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol Mission Impossible 4 is an american action thriller and as you can guess it is the forth film in the Mission Impossible series. Its star is Tom Cruise as an IMF-agent named Ethan Hunt. The film is set in many countries of the world for example Russia, Hungary and the United States of America. it takes place in the 21th Century. The terrorist nicknamed 'Cobalt' plans to start a nuclear war, because of that he signs a contract killer on to steal the Russian launch code in Budapest while he erases his records in the Kremlin. Ethan Hunt is assigned to retrieve Cobalt's identity in the Kremlin, but the terrorists arrive first and bomb it. The IMF is blamed for the bombing and the president of the USA shuts down the organization by invoking the so called 'Ghost Protocol'. Ethan Hunt and his team tries to clear the name of the IMF and attempt to avoid Cobalt from bombing the USA. In the end they are successful. The main character is Ethan Hunt and he is a really intelligent and relaxed middle-aged agent. The soundtrack is amazing and it fits perfectly to the plot, just as like the really great special effects. I really enjoyed the whole series of the M:I's but this part is my preferred one. My favourite scenes were the bombing of the Kremlin and the gunfights. I've watched the film together with my friends at home because of that I can really recommend to watch it with your friends. There wasn't much speaking in the whole film so you...

Clean Audit Reports: Mission Impossible?

...‘CLEAN AUDIT REPORTS’: MISSION IMPOSSIBLE? The beginning of the 21st century was marked by major corporate collapses that jeopardised the reputation of the big Accounting and Auditing firms, questioning the very foundations of financial reporting and corporate governance. In a very short period of time, millions of dollars were wiped off the financial statements of major corporations, and the world saw giants collapse as large amounts of money were proven to exist only in paper. Even though fraud was found to be the constant variable in each case, the causes of the main collapses were determined to be related to corporate governance in general, and corrective measures were taken to improve that. However not many people questioned the fact that most of the money that existed only in paper was in those financial statements as a result of accounting practices that were legitimate and professionally accepted, meaning that auditors were not able to see the realities of these companies as they happened to be hidden under financial statements that strictly complied with accounting standards. The aim of this essay is to discuss why auditors are not able to read a company’s true financial position and performance from the financial statements since all they are able to do is state whether or not those statements comply with the Accounting Standards. The purpose of financial reporting and accounting information will be discussed, as well as the reason why the profession believes standards...

Mission Impossible: Universal Civil Rights

...Mission Impossible: Universal Civil Rights Imagine a world where everyone is accepted for who they are and they don’t have to worry about being judged by the world around them. In Kenji Yoshino’s “Preface” and “The New Civil Rights” he talks about creating a new civil rights which would do just that except just for North America. He promotes not covering, putting on a façade, to start this process. One place where we could begin being ourselves is online, by collaborating everyone’s intrinsic ideas, according to Marshall Poe’s “The Hive”. But not everyone one has a computer. That’s when Thomas Friedman’s “The Dell Theory of Conflict Prevention” comes out to publicize supply chains which are different countries collaborating to make something together, like Dell computers, all over the world, which could altogether stop wars between united countries. This could potentially create a Universal civil rights. If other countries can forget our differences to work on a project together then maybe we could also work together to agree on a Universal civil rights. There’s just a few elements that are stopping this from happening that include disagreements in religion, culture, and computer access could thwart this mission before it even gets started. Religions all around the world have varying definitions on what is okay and what is not okay. Most religious people think that gay people should not get married. In the Bible it talks about Sodom and Gomorrah which are two cities that were...

Business

...During the past few weeks, I have watched episodes and lessons of the shows; “Bar Rescue” and “Restaurant Impossible.” These shows air on Spike TV and also on Food Network. Throughout each program, the expert visits a failing business and tries within his power to turn the business around. In doing this, the expert has to reach through strides of work and stressful situations as do the owners of the business. Also in viewing the shows, I have noticed each owner being frustrated as their business is failing and frustrated that the expert knows how to fix and deal with the problems. They undergo many difficult tasks and changes. Both “Bar Rescue” and “Restaurant Impossible” are similar in certain ways. The basic premise of each show is to have the expert go into a failing business who is reaching bankruptcy and save the day. The expert and host of “Bar Rescue” is Jon Taffer. Jon Taffer is a professional bar consultant and a Nightclub Hall of Fame inductee. Overall, he knows the “in’s” and “out’s” of the Bar scene and how to manage his field of business. Being the expert that he is, Taffer is certainly qualified for hosting this show. The other show that is very similar to this one is “Restaurant Impossible.” It has the same basic premise and is designed to not only help bars, but to help struggling business get back on their feet. The host of Restaurant Impossible is Chef Robert Irvine. Robert Irvine is a British-American celebrity chef who has appeared on numerous...

...Impossible Motherhood: Testimony of an Abortion Addict, by Irene Vilar. This is a memoir in which Vilar discusses her past and how she was an “abortion addict”. When published, it was met with abundant criticism. She spoke about her numerous abortions 15 in total. Vilar, while a teenager in college, became trapped in an abusive relationship with a professor. This foul and dangerous relationship resulted in a loss of self-esteem and sacrifice which ultimately resulted in her suffering physical and emotional abuse. Irene Vilar, is a successful women; she is an editor, author, and literally agent in which she represents writers and their works. As previously mentioned, Vilar is successful but after reading her memoir, and seeing the oppression and suffering, you realize she is a victim. She underwent enormous turmoil and tough times. Her journey to success has not been easy. She has overcome many emotional obstacles to achieve greatness. Thus, this is a story of “hope”. It makes one’s own situation seem a lot more bearable and optimistic. Although there is ultimately hope, I believe this story is about the harm Vilar has experienced throughout her life. The harm she experiences is so abundant and persistent throughout her entire life. There is concentrated emphasis on these moments and events. I will discuss the harm the author went through by focusing on important events and situations that shaped the harm consistently endured by Vilar. I will begin by looking at her...

Illusions in Relativy

...impressive optical illusions. Especially in “Impossible constructions” collection, he did excellent works in playing various visual tricks on those artworks that profoundly confuse the observers at the first sign. The piece of art “ Relativy” depicts an unrealistic interior space with the stairs that never go the same way, the floors, doors and balconies are put on every sides of the rooms in this view. There are also a number of people climbing up and down the stairs and assign “up” or “down” direction in a complicated and strange way, thus completely confuse our visual analysis. However, if the people in motion is supposed to be invisible in the picture, the structure, especially the stairs system seems to be visually possible and at least overall perspective cannot look occur, even though the positions of other furniture pieces may not make logical sense. Therefore, it is effortless for grouping structural elements which are of the same shade and well-connected and well-defined in mass and form. Otherwise, when the number of people moving is involved in the perspective, it can be seen that their shade visually matching with the construction as well as the visual tricks occur to make the picture look ambiguous itself. This is because that three out of four main stairs seem to allow people to climb on both top and bottom, reach and stand on every interior sides of the building, and most of their positions may also be impossible because they defy the force of gravity....

You see, everywhere from America to Japan, each party has, so to say, a ring of firms…If you think that I am less influential than one banker, your idea of what a politician can achieve is very far from reality. In the last 15 years, perhaps half of all above-the-average businessmen are [what they are]…either with my blessing or at least a smile from me. * Ahmed Dogan (Bulgarian Politician, former leader of the ethnic Turks’party Movement for Rights and Freedoms), 2005 Corrupted politicians, lobbying from wealthy businessmen, forceful advocacy from particular societal groups, influence peddling from local and national government representatives – all these are scenarios that Bulgarian citizen hear and read about in Bulgarian media day after day. That is why when in 2005 Dogan said those words, Bulgarian society wasn’t shock by their content; it was no news to us. Actually, the only shock from these words was from the cynicism and the sense of impunity with which a party leader would talk before television cameras. Overall, Bulgarian society is rather used to the concept of corruption. Bulgaria has been ranked for years among the top in the world in terms of corruption (Mulcahy, 2012)...

Mary Slessor

...Mary Mitchell Slessor was born in 1848 in Scotland, she was the second of seven children. She credited much of her good character to her upbringing from her deeply religious mother. Her father ran a shoe making business that did not go well, he became an alcoholic, which resulted hardship and poverty for the family. Mary started working to help provide for her family at a very young age, her wages became the primary source of the family income, she worked up to ten hours a day to make ends meet for her family. She became a Christian at a young age. She enjoyed going to church; it was a getaway from her unhappy life at home. Her older brother who was planning to go as a missionary died, at 25 years old, she decided to go in his place. She embarked on her missionary journey to calabar in 1975 where her battle for women’s rights began, she fell sick from malaria several times and eventually passed away in 1915, nearly forty years after coming to Africa, at the age of 66. Mary Slessor has become an inspiration to all who hear her story. She was not only a pioneer missionary, but also an activist for women in general. Slessor campaigned against injustices against women. Witchcraft and superstition were prevalent in Nigeria when she arrived there because traditional society had been torn apart by the slave trade. Human sacrifice routinely followed the death of a village dignitary for instance tribal customs like killing one wife of a chief in order for her soul to accompany her husband...

Missions

...Dear Mom and Dad, I’d like to say something cute and catchy here…but instead, I’ll just get to the point of why I’m sending you this message.   Danielle and I will be going on our 1st mission trip that will travel to Ecuador on November 2nd, 2013 to invest into the lives of children and families living in abject poverty. God has touched our hearts and opened our eyes to the harsh realities and living conditions that no child should ever have to endure.  Yet, they do.  The children that we will be caring for ‘endure’ in the most heinous and dire circumstances.  On this trip, we will be partnering with two organizations that are on the front lines caring for children and families in need. The first half of our trip will be spent at Nuevos Amigos. Our church, RiverTree Christian Church, has recently assumed the operational responsibilities of Nuevos Amigos, a school located just outside of the capital city of Quito, Ecuador. It's mission is to operate a school that seeks to walk hand in hand with families to ensure that children receive spiritual guidance, quality education, and loving care that complement a healthy home environment. The other half of our time will be spent serving one of the churches and child development projects that our church helped start through Stadia Church Planting and Compassion International. This church is located on Pampanal Island, located off the northern most coastline of Ecuador. There are roughly 250 chlidren on the...

...MISSION EXPANSION THROUGH THE CENTURIES Joanne Holman Mission Expansion Through The Centuries June 18th, 2015 Thesis Statement: This research proposal will capture the journey and contribution of mission through centuries in expansion of Christianity. Christianity is a religion which has been diffused majorly through the missionaries. The Christian mission went many interior places to converts people into Christianities. Actually, this trend is even mentioned in the Bible where people were seen to be enamored by the personality of Jesus Christ. According to Daughrity, since time immemorial, missions have been playing important role to emerge Christianity as the religion followed by the largest population in the world. This research proposal will try to capture the scenario and history of expansion of missions through the centuries. From a large part of eastern Mediterranean known as Levant originated Christianity and after a journey of extensively long passage of Jerusalem, Assyria and Egypt (to name a few), it had been adapted as the official religion in Armenia, Georgia, Aksumite Empire and Roman Empire successively. Missions bore the extensive responsibility of spreading Christianity in the colonies of European countries such as England, France, and Spain etc. but, the largest empire of the world, England was itself a pagan nation and converted into Christianity by the eighth century as the result of the mission in 597 AD led by Pope Gregory I. Missions were very...

Worldviews

...I Worldview is a person’s thoughts, beliefs and opinion on everything in the world around him. It can be your feelings about religion, work, life, violence, abortion, school or even an idea. Your worldview can be stimulated by watching television, a debate you participate in, talking with family or friends, your interacting with co-workers or even a person you pass on the street. Anything one encounters can contribute to your worldview. It is one’s unique opinion about life. II The Question of Origin. The Bible tells us that God created the world and the universe and everything in it (Gen. 1:1). This clearly is the beginning of man’s existence, our origin (Matt.5:45, 19:4). Before God’s creation there was no earth, no universe, just simply nothingness. I have often pondered this very question of my own beginning. Going back and back into my family tree and we all begin with our Heavenly Father. The Question of Identity. We were all made in the image of God (Gen.1:26), for he is our Creator. Genesis 1:28 teaches us that the Lord put us here on earth to rule over other living things, the plants and animals. We are superior over other things here on earth. Life’s experiences contribute to one’s identity. The things we learned as a child to adulthood, our education, what we learned from our parents and other authority figures, helped to form our identities. I would say that the most important contributing factor would be one’s religious beliefs. The Question of...

Missionaries that reported to have a strong connection with their native country before they left, and maintained it throughout their mission while still experiencing the culture, had a much smoother transition (Walling et al.,2006; Berry & Sabatier, 2011; Selby, 2009). It has also been reported that individuals that had been abroad before or had served a previous mission also had fewer negative experiences when they were returning home (Sussman,...

Reflective Essay

...REFLECTIVE ESSAY #1 1. I would be described as a very relaxed leader; someone who likes to have fun and enjoys leisure time. Some will describe me as a team player and compassionate whereas some will say I can be the life of the party. However, when mission is a priority, I expect for my subordinates to perform the task and produce results in a timely manner. 2. At times I can be difficult but only when challenged. For example, I tend to think more of the morale benefits as opposed to what benefits the mission. Though I can be outspoken and loyal, I can also be the worst follower. Learning the traits of an effective follower will help me portray great leadership skills thus perform my job well along with my subordinates and taking pride in our expertise. 3. I use a combination of country club to authoritarian leadership style. At times I will tell my troops to complete a task, no questions asked. Other times I will be in a lassie faire attitude and tell them to do whatever they want. Because of the inconsistencies of my leadership style, my troops are left confused and not knowing what to do. Therefore, I feel my leadership style is ineffective. It is my goal as an NCO to role model a great leader and NCOA has been a beneficial part of my improvement. 4. According to the classroom exercise, I am definitely an orange type of temperament. I don’t always set the right example because of my outspoken attitude towards leadership. My theory is to work hard and...
