Over the summers in high school when teachers would assign books to read, I never really had an interest in sitting down and reading them. However, the one book I specifically enjoyed reading was White Oleander by Janet Fitch. Even though this was a fiction novel, I loved how real it felt while reading it. There was so much emotion involved in the story that it helped me feel connected to the main character as a reader. It was hard for me to put this book down because I was so invested in the story. When it comes to non-fiction, I do not remember reading any in school that I really enjoyed except for Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom. In this book, Mitch Albom discusses his relationship with his college professor Morrie. I know these two books are fiction but if there are any non-fiction authors similar to him I would be interested in reading those. Over the summer I had a random urge to just get a good book and to read it. When I went into the store the nonfiction section immediately caught my eye. This was surprising to me because for most of my life I always leaned more toward the fiction books. I just recently read the book Present over Perfect by Shauana Niequist and I am starting the book Rising Strong by Brene Brown. I am finding with these two non-fiction books that it is easy to relate to the stories the authors are sharing. Reading and understanding what people have gone through is giving me a different perspective on my own life. In the book Present over Perfect by Shauana Niequist, it was about leaving behind all the chaos in your life that is not making you happy in exchange for a simpler approach to life. This book helped me realize that all the stress and frantic running around is not needed in order to be successful. It is important to spend time alone and to stop all the worrying. Living in the present at a state where you are happy with what is going on is more important than trying to have everything perfectly figured out 100 percent of the time. Additionally, in the book Rising Strong, I have not gotten deep into it yet but it seems to be about how the key to being successful is all about being knocked down a few times and coming up stronger. Without vulnerability, it will be impossible to truly find what you are capable of. You have to push and challenge yourself to grow. Although I do not have much
