1. Give an everyday example that illustrates the difference between acceleration and velocity. Give an example of uniform and accelerated motion.
An everyday example of the difference between acceleration and uniform motion would be for acceleration driving a car down a long straight road, the speedometer is not moving, the needle is on 40 mph, your moving at a constant speed, but the needle isn’t stationary on the speedometer scale because maybe your foot is either on the gas or brake and your speed is changing and your are accelerating. An example of uniform and accelerated motion would be a driving are car down a highway, accelerating to get to the speed limit which is 75 and uniform motion would be a car is cruising at 75 miles at that constant speed.

2. What determines the difference between scientific knowledge and non-scientific knowledge?
What determines the different between scientific knowledge and non-scientific knowledge is that scientific knowledge is based on a body of techniques for investigating phenomena, acquiring new knowledge and integrating previous knowledge consisting of the data collected through observation, experimentation, and formulation and testing the hypothesis, basically using the scientific method to perform the results. Scientific knowledge is the knowledge that has been gained from analyzing evidence. Non-scientific knowledge is the gathering of information by people or institutions that do know use the scientific method.

3. Why do people mistake what is in diet energy drinks for actual energy?
Some ways people might mistake diet energy drinks for actual energy is because when you have energy drinks it is advertised for features of increased muscle strength and endurance, to give you more energy to do things. To make up energy that you are lacking so you can get the necessary task done. I don’t know why and how some people think that what’s in energy drinks is for actually energy; to me it’s just common sense. Energy drinks are just some form of chemicals with caffeine that give you a boost for a temporary time.

4. Think about your energy intake today. Pick one food and identify the chain of energy that led to it. What tropic level do you eat from most? Where will the energy that you ingest eventually wind up?
All living organism take their energy from 45% but absorb only a small portion of this amount only 4% to run photosynthesis and supply the entire food chain. A larger portion heats the ground or air or even evaporates water from lakes, rivers, streams etc. the tropic level that we eat from most would be the third tropic level and the energy that you ingest wind up either stored or released.

5. Compare the thermal conductivity of metal vs. wood.
Metal makes a good conductor of heat because it moves heat rapidly away from your skin, which is generally warmer than air temps. Wood makes a good insulator it impedes the flow of head and so it feels comparatively warm. The insulation in our homes is design to have low thermal conductivity, so that the heat that is transferred can be slowed down. Metal has a higher heat transferability or thermal conductivity, than wood, letting the heat from your hand leave faster.

6. Describe the movement of electrons required to develop electrical current.
The movements of electrons required to develop electrical current, negatively charged electrons move around a massive positively charged nucleus at the center of every atom. The electrons and nucleus have opposite electrical charges, so an attractive force exists between them. This force in atoms plays a role; most atoms are electrically neutral because the positive charge of the nucleus cancels the negative charge of the electrons.

7. How do reading glasses work? Describe how the light is interacting with the lens.
Reading glasses work in the correction of what you can’t see. Some people have problems seeing smaller words and need glasses to enlarge the words for them. Either you are near sight or far sight. In the case of near sight, basically correct the problem with eyes taking too long to focus upon a far away image. The glasses have a concave lens that bends light rays outward, normalizing the eyes. In the case of far sight the eye is too short to focus upon objects that are near. The glasses uses convex lens that cause light to converge, the light waves then bends waves inward before it reaches the eye’s lens and correcting the vision.

8. If you went into a disaster shelter, could you get cell phone service inside? What kinds of electromagnetic radiation could this shelter protect you from? For example, does light pass through the shelter, get absorbed by the shelter, and is it reflected by the shelter or does light interact with the shelter in a variety of ways?
I would say no because if you are going to a disaster shelter, there’s a disaster where I need to get to a bunker because my life is in danger. But most likely the power lines, and towers are down so my phone wouldn’t be useful to me at all. Unless the disaster is not that bad and your cell phone has services, and you could call for help. When disaster storms the kinds a of electromagnetic radiation the shelter protects you from would be gamma rays, solar waves, any waves that will do harm to you. The shelters outer later helps it reflects the light where it don’t have an impact on the people that’s in the shelter.

The melting point of beryllium is 2349°F and the boiling point estimate to be 4500°F. The metal has a high heat capacity and heat conductivity. Calcium (Ca) is silver colored and it is found in the earth’s crust at a concentration of 4.1%. The atomic mass is 40.08 and the atomic number is 20. The melting point for 1560°F and the boiling point is 2620°F; its has a density of 1.54 grams per cubic centimeter. The physical properties of calcium are that it’s a fairly soft metal with a shiny silver surface when first cut. The surface quickly becomes dull as calcium reacts with oxygen to form a coating of white or gray calcium oxide. The chemical reacts include that calcium is a moderately active element that reacts readily with oxygen to form calcium oxide. Calcium reacts to a lot of elements which include: halogens, . It also reacts readily with cold water most acids, and most nonmetals, such as sulfur and phosphorus. Since calcium forms such hard minerals, it is useful in building materials, such as plaster, mortar, and cement which is in group 17 of periodic table. Calcium chloride is a deliquescent in which it absorbs enough water from the air that it dissolves in the solution, and is used to remove moisture from the air in damp basements.
Strontium (Sr) is a shiny but relatively soft metal, it is found in the earth’s crust at a concentration of 370 parts per million. The atomic number is 38 and the atomic mass is 87.62. The boiling point of strontium is 2,491°F and the melting point is 1,395°F. Strontium density is 2.6 grams per cubic centimeter. The properties include that strontium forms a variety of salts, the properties of which are always intermediate between those of the barium and calcium element. The salts tends to be colorless; the surface and carbonate are poorly soluble, and hence their occurrences as mineral. The chemical properties include that strontium is so active that it must be stored under kerosene or mineral oil; So that the metal does not come into contact with air. Strontium catches fire spontaneously and burns vigorously in a powdered form. This element is active enough to combine even with hydrogen and nitrogen when heated. Strontium salts produce brilliant red colors when heated, and are used in fireworks and flares for this reason. Radioactive strontium-90 which is a beta-emitter is produced in nuclear explosions; since it is chemically similar to calcium, it becomes incorporated into bone in people who are exposed to it. Strontium-90 is a beta-emitter, and interferes with the production of red blood cells.
Barium (Ba) is a pale yellow, shiny, malleable metal which means capable of being hammered into thin sheets. These stones glowed in the presence of light and also when heated. The atomic number is 56 and the atomic mass is 137.34. It is found in the earth’s crust at a concentration of 500 parts per million. Barium density is 3.6 grams per cubic centimeter. The boiling point of barium is 2,700°F and the melting point is 1,300°F. Barium salts give off a pale yellow-green color when heated, and are used in fireworks. The chemical properties include that barium is an active metal and it combines easily with oxygen, the halogens, and other non-metals. Barium also react with water and with most acids and it is so reactive that it must be stored under kerosene, petroleum, or some oily liquid to prevent it from reacting with oxygen and moisture in the air..
Radium (Ra) is a soft, shiny, radioactive metal and is found in the earth’s crust at a concentration of 0.6 parts per trillion. The atomic number is 88 and the atomic mass is 226.0254. The boiling point of radium is 3,159°F and the melting point is 1300°F and its density is 5.5 grams per cubic centimeter. Radium is colorless, but it combines with nitrogen rather than oxygen on exposure to air. Radium is found in trace amount in uranium ores, commercially used radium is more easily obtained from spent nuclear fuel. Radium crystallizes in the body-centered cubic structure at standard temperature and pressure. Radium was used to make glow-in-the-dark clock faces in the early 1900's; the alpha particles emitted by the radium struck particles of zinc sulfide, causing them to glow.The chemical properties of radium are a highly reactive metal and always exhibits it group oxidation state.
10. List and give an example of an object around you for of each of the different types of chemical bonds.
Ionic bonds are chemical bonds in which the electrical force between two oppositely charged ions holds the atoms together. Ionic bond involves the transfer of one or more electrons from one atom to another. An example of ionic bond would be table salt or sodium. Covalent bonds involve the sharing of one or more electrons between atoms which fills their outer shells. An example of covalent bonds would be glucose. Metallic bond occurs when all the electrons are delocalized and spread out evenly along the entire metal. Metallic is a bond only found in metals. An example of metallic would be the iron in our blood. Polarization which is the side of an atom facing the negative end of a polar molecule will become slightly positive. Polarization will give rise to an electrical attraction between the negative end of the polar molecule and the positive side of the other molecule. An example of polarization would be the ability for material to be dissolved in water. Hydrogen bond is a weak bond that may form after hydrogen atom links to an atom of certain other elements by a covalent bond. An example of hydrogen bond would be wood and silk.

When you see it if no one asks you to think about it one is likely to think “what a stupid question, that has an obvious answer”, but you would be wrong. A person that works in a company will most likely spend more time there then at home. It shouldn't be to much of a predicament if the person holding the wedding gets is friends with everyone at work, which might happen if you work for a small company, and the work space consists of a small work force. What if you don’t like some one in your work place? or even if one feels that the time they spend with their colleagues is more then enough? It really depends on the person who is about to take the ultimate step in a relationship. One can invite everyone and just have to deal with those who are not to their liking, which will prevent any future resentments. One can invite just the ones they get along with, this with the notion that others will find out about the happening, and might result in future quarrels in the future. A politically correct approach can be taken by not inviting their co-workers to the wedding using the expenses as an excuse.
