THE BUSINESS WOMAN’S TALE: MONEY ISN’T EVERYTHING
I will start my story now. I will have you know terrorist, that I make more money than most of the people in this café, so keep that in mind. If you do let me out, that I know you will, I will make sure that I won’t have the police coming after you. I can also give you enough money to buy a year’s supply of coffee, just to let you know. Before I begin, this is a story so there doesn’t have to be any logic to this. A story has its own rules so don’t question my tale too harshly. I will tell a story about money not being able to buy everything. It is a little clichéd, but it is the best that I can best relate to. I will have you know that I have married and divorced two men so far in my life. I am not proud of what I did, but I think I have learned a lesson from them. I do not directly relate to the main character, but I hope a future man for me can learn this lesson. Also the lesson may apply to me as well, since money is all I really cared for.
The story begins with a pair of twins, a brother and a sister. They were very close to each other while growing up. They played and talked to each other on a daily basis. When they grew up, they went their separate ways. The brother, the main character of this story, graduated from a prodigious school and was able to get a master degree at Harvard. He was able to get a high-position and high-paying job in a company, and was also applying for a job at a large corporation. The bother was able to get his dream car and a big house that he could live freely in. However, every girlfriend he had had never lasted long. He would try to get as many gifts as he can for them, and they were happy for the mean time. The brother could never figure out what he was doing wrong. He had the money to keep them happy, but he keeps on thinking he doesn’t have enough.
Later on, he was able to meet

...different things depending on how you view the situation. Charles Murray uses an experimental thought process to show that even people that live in poverty on a daily basis can live decent, if not spectacular, lives. In “Serving in Florida,” the narrator had a job as a server in a restaurant. Throughout the story, she complains about the managers and how they do nothing for hours but earn more money than servers. The narrator described her money situation to be in trouble. “…unless I want to start using my car as a residence, I have to find a second or alternative job” she said. The situation of poverty is the same in “Twenty Grand,” as the narrator’s mother has no job and relies heavily on her husband who is a Guard for the Air National Guard. Unfortunately, many people share the same problem as the people in these stories. Money is the root of all evil. With no money, people believe they cannot live a decent life. The two stories have many differences however. The narrator from Ehrenreich’s “Serving in Florida” had a job and lived on her own but just did not have enough money. She had an apartment and was able to pay for food and gas with her tips from work. The only thing she could not do was live an ‘upper-class’ lifestyle. On the other hand, the narrator from Curtis’ “Twenty Grand” lived with her mother who had no job and relied solely on her husband. This family was so poor that groceries were difficult to purchase on a weekly basis. The narrator even struggled...

...means that money isn’t necessary for anyone to feel fulfilled. I agree with this statement because money isn’t everything. Many celebrities have tons of money and fame but are not necessarily happy. Robin Williams, for example, seemed to be very happy and had much money but was found dead due to an overdose of prescription drugs. Everyone thinks money is the way to happiness but in the case of Robin Williams, may he rest in peace, we can see that money doesn’t necessarily mean happiness. This example goes to show that money isn’t necessary for fulfillment. In contrast, one may argue that without money you aren’t important because money is power but they are wrong because your level of importance to one individual may vary from that of another. In essence money isn’t needed for anyone to feel satisfied. Another reason to agree with this statement is that good friends and family make you feel joyful; for instance, people are found to be the happiest when spending time with friends and family. This demonstrates that friends and family help us feel satisfied with life and are always there to support us. Nevertheless, others may claim that a successful career is more important because your friends and family will not always be there to support you financially but they are wrong because they will be there to help, it’s just not their duty to handle your financial responsibilities. In conclusion, good friends and family can make you happier and more satisfied than money ever...

Linda Lee The Case Against College Summary

...You get what you give “ College isn’t everything. In my opinion your work ethic is what your success will be based off. In the essay “The Case Against College” I believe proves the point of showing college isn’t everything. If you give 20% you can expect to only get about 20% back out, but if you put in everything you have you will end up having a lot better results. Determination and the amount of effort will decide how far you go in life. I believe Linda Lee has a very good understanding of how college affects your future, based on the amount of effort you put into it. In the author’s essay she stated that she asked herself if her son was receiving $1,000 worth of education, where she decided that “heck no” he wasn’t. I believe that...

Carli Lloyd Research Paper

...Imagine a world where everything from pay, to health benefits are always unfair, due to gender. Well, that’s the world that Carli Lloyd is currently living in. Carli Lloyd is a U.S women’s soccer player who strongly believes that everyone should be treated equally no matter what gender they belong to. After being on the women's team for 12 years, she has experienced gender inequality in every way, and she will continue do whatever she can to fight for women’s rights, so that young girls around the world won’t have to experience the hardships of being mistreated. First of all, Carli lloyd stated, “It had everything to do with what’s right and what’s fair, and with upholding a fundamental American concept: equal pay for equal play. Even if you are female.” Evidently, Carli is right about the unfair wage gap between the men and women’s team, especially since Carli and her teammates, play just as much and just as hard as the men soccer team players. There shouldn’t be a wage gap especially if men and women are doing the same job just as well. Secondly, Lloyd also claimed, “The top five players on the men’s team make an average of $406,000 each year from these games. The top five women are guaranteed only $72,000 each year.” There is a 334,000 dollar wage gap between the two...

The Goal

...Here are the principles behind the dramatic turnaround story in The Goal, in 885 words. Ready? Start counting now: The goal of a manufacturing organization is to make money. Jonah poses this as a question: "What is the goal?" and Rogo actually struggles with it for a day or two, but any manager or executive that can't answer that question without hesitation should be fired without hesitation. But then again, the goal isn't clear to everyone. One of the characters in the book, an accountant, responds to an offhand comment about the goal with a confused "The goal? You mean our objectives for the month?" That's sure to strike a chord with a lot of readers. At an operational level, measure your success toward the goal with these three metrics: Throughput - The rate at which the system generates money through sales. Inventory - The money that the system has invested in purchasing things which it intends to sell. Operational expense - The money the system spends in order to turn inventory into throughput. You could rephrase it this way - and someone does, a bit later in the book: Throughput - Goods out; the money coming in. Inventory - Materials in; the money currently inside the system. Operational expense - Effort in; the money going out. Obviously, your job is to minimize expense and inventory and maximize throughput. Adjust the flow of product to match demand. In particular, don't trim capacity to match demand. It's a standard cost-cutting procedure...

The Giver

... This quote defines a dystopia. A dystopia is an imagined place or state in which everything is unpleasant or bad, typically a totalitarian or environmentally degraded one. On the other side is a utopia where everything is perfect. They both relate to each other as they are an imagined place or state. There are tons of problems in the world today. One of them being pollution. Pollution has caused problems for everyone. Fishes and sea creatures are being affected because of water pollution, air pollution causing millions of people their lives. The Sulfur Dioxide emissions engender acid rain and prompt chronic respiratory disease. Lung cancer, heart disease, even damage to the brain nerves, liver or kidneys. To fix these problems I should purpose zero emission cars, prohibiting the use of cars running on diesel or petrol. Zero emission cars run on electricity produce no air pollution and noise pollution. Also banning the use of natural resources that can cause pollution and using wind and water to generate electricity. These raw materials are harmful and can run out. On the other hand Wind and Water power are a great source for generating energy at a low cost infinitely. Another issue that exists in our community is shortage of money for a lot of people. Money is the current medium of exchange in the form of coins and banknotes; coins and banknotes collectively. I believe money makes no sense and should never have been existed. Everyone in the community should...

Major Arguments: 1. Climate change has affected a major part of or world, which is animal life. Due to the drastic change in our climate over extended period of time animals have become at risk, close to extinction and that is a cry for help. Why I focused on animal life wasn’t for the obvious reason; that they are in danger and some close to extinction, rather it is in argument that explores the demands which big companies and farmers go through in order to satisfy the wealthy. Everything that requires more work, more effort and at times isn’t necessarily environmentally friendly is more expensive. Therefore, everything is done for profit and gain. English Essay

...The Hike to $15 America, the land of freedom and opportunity they say. I think that saying might just be false with the way our nation is today. The main reason I believe being that the federal minimum wage is too low. Minimum wage should be $15 in every state. If we want people to experience the freedom and opportunity, it can’t be done off $7.25. People have kids to provide for, colleges to attend, families to support, and so many more things. The luxury to afford to have all the “freedom” or “opportunity” the rich may have isn’t plausible for minimum wage workers. Every morning these people wake up and questions whether they have enough money for food or housing for example. Robert Reich, an American political economist, professor, author, and political commentator, made some good points on this issue. Reich also believes that the minimum wage should be $15 an hour. We both agree with federal minimum wage being hiked to $15 an hour. My reason as to why I agree with him being that Reich gives 7 very valid reasons as to why the raise should occur. The benefit over time would be well worth it. Congress instituted the minimum wage in 1938 as part of the Fair Labor Standards Act (DOL). The first minimum wage that was established was 25 cents an hour (James). The last minimum wage increase occurred in 2009, when Congress raised the rate to $7.25 an hour (AFL). The District of Columbia and 19 states have also established local minimum wages higher than the federal rate (AFL)...

The Good Life

...Defining the “Good Life” Growing up my dad always told me that I will never be able to look back at everything I accomplished and say “I made it,” he said I might be able to when I retire but not anytime soon. I came of age with this mentality in the back of my mind, I worked, never becoming complacent with where I was. I was only focussed on where I wanted to be and that wasn’t there in that moment. In that moment I was focussed on one thing, the “good life.” In that moment, as I powered down my coffee trying to study, it wasn’t because I wanted to learn, but because I wanted my Ferrari. I was studying business not for pleasure but to make money. Yet by pursuing these material good was I pursuing the best life for me? Was I pursuing my personal definition of the “good life” or the definition of the “good life” inspired by people like Kanye West, who might even hate their “good life?” People who have found their higher level pleasures but are beginning to think it isn’t worth the trade off. Failure to question and change said trade off will only result in this person fall victim to the tyranny of custom just as Kanye West did: a man who wrote a song titled “The Good Life.” Though the idea of the “good life” is subjective there are many factors to take into account but ultimately you must decide for yourself whether the life you’re living is your definition of the “good life.” Kanye West is a singer/ songwriter and is famous for being obnoxious, he produces amazing music...

Cheerleading

...Most say that cheerleading isn’t a sport but I am about to tell you the difference. There’s cheerleading for the football and basketball teams which is basically just for fun. Honestly when people say cheering isn’t a sport I tell them that sideline, which is when you cheer for football, isn’t a sport but when you compete I and others consider it a sport. Everything you do no matter what sport it is, you should have fun doing it. Friday night games is when you go out there and perform your best for you, your team, and your audience. Cheering for your school football team is the best feeling ever when you can you just be able to go out there and cheer on your team. Being a cheerleader you are usually the football teams number one supporter because we will always be behind them 100 percent win or lose. A cheerleader pretty much represent the school, you are expected to have the most school spirit, represent your school with pride. When you are out in public you definitely need to present yourself well and act right because if you look/act badly out in public someone will call you out on it and then you just represented you, your squad, and your school badly. Competition cheer for the school has to be the best decision I have ever made in my high school career. Walking out on that mat for the first time ever is the most nerve wrecking feeling ever because you want to put your all out there on that mat just for two minutes and thirty seconds of your life.
