Motivational Methods Paper

...Motivational Methods Paper HCS/325 June 11, 2012 Susan Greenwood Motivational Methods Paper In this paper I have decided to tell you about three motivational techniques that I will implement into my staff. The three techniques that I will be going over are: targets, rewards, and incentives; make the work place fun; and using the P.E.R.F.O.R.M model to help increase potential. I will go into detail about what each technique entails and explain how each change will affect my organization. By the end of this paper you should have three more motivational techniques that you could consider for your organization as well. The first technique that we will be talking about is targets, rewards, and incentives. To do this you first have to know your team. In order to set out rewards and incentives you have to first understand what motivates your team and gets them set in working towards their goals that you have set out. The CV Centre. (1998-2012) states that “Motivating a team is always easier if you fully understand that they may not necessarily be motivated by the same things as you.  The most effective teams are those that feel valued and supported but also feel that they are progressing and developing through the completion of challenging tasks.  If a team understands company objectives, they are much more likely to want to work harder towards their achievement.  Also, most people tend to respond well to being given the opportunity to make decisions and take on additional responsibilities...

Ben & Jerry’s Company Motivational Profile PSY/ 320 Human Motivation March 7, 2011 Ben & Jerry’s Company Motivational Profile Introduction “When you are led by values, it doesn’t cost your business, it helps your business.” (Jerry Greenfield, co-founder of Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream, date unknown) Ben and Jerry’s is a progressive ice cream company founded in 1978 by lifelong friends Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield. It is now a division of the British-Dutch conglomerate, Unilever. Ben and Jerry’s implements many of the same motivational techniques used by other companies today; like most companies, they create many extrinsic motivators for their employees. Like most companies, goal setting at Ben and Jerry’s is huge in terms of giving employees direction and helping with their motivation. What differentiates Ben and Jerry’s though when it comes to goal setting, is the rewards system created to complement it and the culture of fun that they try to create with it in hopes of keeping their employees motivated. The idea is that by creating a fun environment, it will help with employee retention. Like most companies though, there are also areas of deficiencies at Ben and Jerry’s that can be addressed that would probably help to increase employee motivation even more. Motivation Methods Paper

...Motivational Methods Paper HCS 325 - Health Care Management Monday, September 19, 2011 Motivational Methods Paper Motivation has been defined as the "willingness to exert effort to achieve the organization's goals, conditioned by this effort's ability to satisfy individual needs" (Kamery, 2004, pp. 91-92). Motivation in a true sense is an art work in that it is a process of being able to change one's willingness to exert effort. This willingness sets the foundation of motivation. Over the course of this paper I will discuss three motivational methods job design, human needs, and based on process; a goal-setting theory in which managers can apply to create an environment for employees to exert their efforts in the workplace. I will also discuss how implementing such motivational methods can affect the organization. The first motivational method I will discuss is motivating through job design. Although monetary compensation often accounts for the motivation behind some individuals work efforts, it is not the sole motivator, but it may be because of self-satisfaction which motivates an individual. Motivating through job design permits creating or defining specific jobs or duties tailored to an individual or group of individuals. Managers often design jobs that encourage employees to become skilled, accurate, and efficient at their assigned task. This in itself is motivation. A sense of accomplishment leads to feeling satisfied. It is through this satisfaction...

Intro to Business

...Chapter 10 – Use and Effectiveness of Motivational Techniques 1. Think about your current or most recent job. What types of motivational techniques are, (or were) being used? How were they applied in the workplace? My current employer uses job enrichment and behavior modification as motivational techniques. Allowing employees to adjust their portfolios by increasing or decreasing the number of clients is part of the job enrichment where I work. This provides employees to have some control over their job. They also use behavior modification that is used to reinforce good or targeted behavior such as recognizing employees when exceeding expectation. 2. Identify one technique from your answer to question #1. How well did that technique work to motivate you? Your co-workers? Behavior modification has not been a motivator for me and is a pathetic attempt to reinforce a targeted behavior. There a select few employees that are praised for good behavior; meanwhile the remaining employees are working hard to get the job done while meeting the needs of our clients. It’s discouraging to see no reward for loyalty and productivity. Several of my co-workers are not motivated by this technique and find is repulsive that the same people receive positive reinforcement. On the opposite spectrum is that negative behavior is addressed more often than positive behavior. I am self motivated and do not feel the need to be recognized, but find it unfortunate that only a select...

What are Google’s motivational techniques? In the year 2009, Google Inc. ranked first as the best company to work for according to the Fortune magazine (Cooks, 2012). The CEO, Erin Schmitt, subscribes to the school of thought founded upon the belief that “fun is good.” as much as the employees face challenging tasks in Google Inc., the management ensures that the challenge is fun. According to the article “How Google Motivates Their Employees With Rewards And Perks,” the company’s main motivational technique is providing creatively unique working workstations, fostering, celebrating and rewarding the employees from time to time. Schepp argued that a fascinating aspect of Google Inc.’s intrinsic motivational rewards is the fact the company allows for the employees to undertake their normal duties at their freedom (Schepp, 2012). ...long-term relevance of motivational techniques used by Baheti in the light of prevailing environment in the organization. AnswerSome of the most successful managers and executives have achieved their objectives byaligning the aims of their employees with those of their organization. Once an employee is ableto understand, and empathize with the overall aims of the organization, they are generallymore motivated towards achieving them. Having ensured that the organization and theemployees are working towards the same objectives, managers can then focus on exactly whichmotivational techniques can be implemented to facilitate the achievement of these goals. It is clear that there are both positive and negative motivational factors which can lead to theachievement of objectives. These can be summarized as either fear or reward factors. This fearfactor can indeed lead to good results in the short-term but, in the long-term; the employeesare likely to be more focused upon whether or not they will be keeping their jobs, rather thanupon fulfilling overall business objectives. Positive motivational factors are also many andvaried and, although these may lead to long-term gains, they too can have negative aspects tothem. Offering rewards and incentives is indeed motivational, but it is important to make surethat these are deserved and that recognition is given to the right person at the right time. 1. Motivation

...essential business factor in past couple of decades. Considering we all live in the so-called information age, the ever-changing organizational structure presents the struggle to constantly motivate their employees to adapt to new policies, change mental behavior, and grow with the company. Each generation is becoming more educated at younger ages making the want for entry-level jobs undesirable. The 21st century managers are up against a rapid growing business climate demanding for more innovative motivational techniques. Workforce diversity gives businesses a competitive advantage against other businesses. Other companies who refuse to veer away from their homogenous mixture of employees make themselves susceptible to ineffective business transactions and possible innovative opportunities. Having a versatile group of employees brings in new talents, but at the same time it is harder for managers to communicate and maintain the diverse group of people. With a mixture of employed people the motivational needs for one employee could be a complete 180 degree difference for the other. For instance, if an employee is more financially stable they require more intrinsic rewards, compared to an employee that is living pay check to pay check, will make extrinsic rewards a necessary. This makes a managers job very difficult to satisfy every employee with limited resources. Employing people from all different cultures is great marketing strategy but, an even greater motivational struggle...

...footprint as well. This forces organizations to tailor their method of doing business to a certain degree to the area in which they are doing business. Culture plays a large role in the motivational scheme, weather you look at America as a salad bowl or a melting pot the country has applied its own influences upon different ethnic groups as to what works for motivation and what will not. Knowing this now tells us that we must examine what works for the cultures in the purest sense on their original soil. This will not only help us in the sense of a global expansion, it will allow us a basis of comparison back at home as well. In recent years when someone mentions manufacturing, invariably China comes to mind. This manufacturing powerhouse boasts a labor base of almost 1.3 billion people. With a limited infrastructure they have been able to undercut most developed countries bids when it comes to manufactured goods. When it comes to motivation the strict structure of the government and more importantly Chinese culture come into play. It has been noted that while China focuses on moral motivators for the average worker, “that extreme reliance upon nonmaterial incentives causes morale and production to suffer” (Riskin, 1973). As the Chinese continue to advance their methods and infrastructure something else has happened. Riskin notes that the tenants of communism do not mix well with large scale business or as Edwin Reischauer stated “I think Mao or else people close to him...
