...My Approach to Writing By: Michael Czeczeli My goals for this course are fairly simple. My biggest goal for this course is to learn how to write a paper and get my point across without going overboard with run- on sentences and un-needed info. In my career field it’s going to be very important to be able to get my point across with minimal errors and mistakes. Another goal of mine is to learn to overall like writing. When I first started school I couldn’t stand writing papers or sending emails, but since that is the biggest line of communication today I need to learn to love it. I hope to be a General Manager or at least Assistant General Manager of a major company or corporation after graduation. I plan to also use my writing throughout my college career. My college career is looking to be a long one since I plan to continue until I receive my masters’ degree in business. A really big use of my writing will be helping my daughters as they journey through school over the years to come. When I set out to write an academic paper I usually set a few goals for myself. The major goal for me is to insure that the reader gets all the information that is intended for them. I want to make sure that they fully understand where I’m coming from without drawing it out too much. Sometimes I have problems with run-on sentences...

I have not enrolled in any business classes at the moment but this is an aspect am considering to engage in so that I could increase chances to get a management position within the information technology sector. As a computer scientist, my professional objective involves contributing to the development of software and hardware that could reduce security risks. However in order to achieve this long-term professional objective of my career, I look forward upon the completion of my studies with admirable grades. My long –term professional objective of creating security within the information technology sector coincides with my goal for this writing course. In development of computer programs, there is a lot of creativity that is required just like what is highlighted in most writing courses. Personal writing experience in comparison to the process approach I have handled writing in my previous experiences. This has involved writing of term papers and assignments. In this form of writing, I noticed that what is required is objectivity. In such forms of writing, one is supposed to concentrate on facts that exist in theories and concepts. Unless it is asked by the tutor, writers of such papers are supposed to be objective. I found that this form of writing to be so rigid because one is not supposed to give his personal views. Considering...

...competitive position, innovation is a critical practice that all business groups across the company must participate in and contribute ideas and resources. As a leader in the innovation team, my responsibility focuses on the communication and delivery of innovation tools and concepts that align with the overall company’s strategy as well as the respective business groups. I recently had to issue a communication to several of the business groups on a research initiative that could potentially create a very profitable business for my company and enter into a new market. When I was putting together my thoughts to create a communication to the executive leadership and the F&A group within the company, I had to pull from several different business and technical areas. Introduction Some of these areas I’m considered a subject matter expert, some I’m not, but I had to assemble a paper that addressed the all the elements of the opportunity and created a solid business and technical case for the company to invest a substantial amount of money to support, I better get it right the first time. The lectures and reading in the first three weeks has been very helpful so far as I catch up on my classroom work and get back into a normal schedule. Yes, I did have some delays responding to my class assignments while working in Dallas and New York, but I did make attempts to read the assignments when possible, usually while flying back home late...

...steps of your current writing approach. For example, how do you approach writing an assignment for a class? In addition, outline the ways your process differs from or is similar to the writing process outlined in your texts. This paragraph should follow the structure of an effective paragraph. Underline the topic sentence and bold the concluding sentence in the paragraph. Use complete sentences. Post your assignment, Review the additional resources I will be taking the time to explain my current writing approach. The first thing that I do is make sure I have a quiet area to work in and a sound mind so that I can focus on my writing. I usually use my laptop to write because pen and paper makes me nervous. I begin writing what I know and like to discuss, which is called discovering and brainstorming. Then after I have discovered and brainstormed, I begin narrowing down what I want to write about such as: Topic sentence and supportive details. After finalizing my topic sentence, I move forward and compose my rough draft. By drafting what I have written, it allows me to add thoughts and to subtract the unnecessary supporting details. Then after I have done that, I revise the draft by rearranging ideas and reshaping sentences to make a smooth and flowing paper. After carefully examining the paper to see if it contains any errors of grammar, spelling, or punctuation for the last time, I then proceed to write my final paper. In conclusion, the four stages of writing which is discovering...

As well as prepare them to maneuver daily technological advances in our society. A child without a solid reading foundation could be led on a path to becoming a high school dropout. “One in six children who are not reading proficiently in the third grade do not graduate from high school on time” (Baltimore City Library Project, 2014, para.1). Many children have low to poor academic achievement. Multisensory reading intervention can be the solution to help break the cycle of poor reading skills amongst children in urban environments. A multisensory reading approach such as the Orton-Gillingham Method of teaching can be the possible solution for elementary school children’s reading problems A lack of sufficient reading skills can have a tornado effect on a child’s potential fulfillment in life. ...Senior Writing Project-Reflective Essay As I look back at the writings I have created in these past few years, I realize that other than my junior year, I haven't written any narrative pieces, in any classes. The focus throughout my high school curriculum has been toward argumentative, analysis, and informative writings. Only in my junior year did I write my first creative writings in the form of a short story and a poem. The first creative writing I had to write a "Vomit" Draft. A vomit draft was the very first draft of a paper with little to no guidelines. "Bring two minutes to life" was the only instruction. We had to throw down 500 words without paying any real attention to punctuation or grammar. This kind of freedom associated with such creative writing was an alien concept to me. Getting used to writing without a structure that we had to follow, without a set of guidelines we had to abide by took a while. But, this kind of writing really helped me learn and improve, not just my writings, my organization and my time management skills as well. Knowing that I had to write such a demanding paper (it turned out to be fourteen pages longs), I had to improve my time management skills, which, up till junior year, hadn’t really been a challenge. Forcing myself then, to distribute time wisely has really helped me now, with the terrific pressures and burdens of college applications. This creative writing segment in my junior year helped my prepare, in a way, for these college...

...My approach in writing an assignment for class is more of a textbook approach. In other words, what I learned about writing in class are the steps I take when writing for an assignment. The first step I take when writing for an assignment is by pre-writing. Pre-writing organizes my thoughts and helps in making the topic I am writing about more interesting. I start out with a draft of my thoughts and ideas on the topic that I am writing about for that particular assignment. With this step, I can put those ideas in an effective form and I am able to communicate my thoughts and ideas on the topic or subject matter in written form. From there, I take the revising step. I try to look at my work more critically in this step and I am revising different parts of what I have written in making the paper I am writing a well-written finished product. The last step for me is to edit my written work. I am able to look over what I have written, re-read, edit and I am also checking for spelling and grammar issues in what I have written thus far. In this editing step, I also enlist someone else to read and edit my finish written work. Having someone else to read what I have written and giving me feedback is the most important step in the process for me. By doing this step, I have an opinion and the critical eye of someone else other than myself, to give me a different perspective of my written work. Taking the above steps in writing helps me not only improving my written assignment but to also...

...My writing is my running career. It is not always pleasant to do in the moment, but I often find myself very proud of what I accomplish. Like a season of training, my skill has increased with repetition and practice, certainly over this semester. As I put the work in, I have noticed growth in my approach to writing, writing process, and skill at crafting an argument, and further my understanding of addressing and understanding human rights. I find that I write more deliberately now, like following a training plan rather than making up workouts as I go. I think more about what I am doing specifically to persuade my audience. Before this term I would merely lay out my writing as it made sense to me. I have since realized the importance of tailoring my work to a specific audience. Of course, using appropriate language depending on the reader goes without saying. But only recently did I really begin to think about varying my use of rhetorical tactics; emphasizing appeals to ethos, logos, or pathos depending on who the indented reader was. This meant appealing more to pathos where I could and it was more audience-appropriate in my video project, and keeping the focus on ethos and logos in Project 1, which was research driven. The concept of Kairos was also an important tool I picked up this year. Framing an issue in terms of a relevant happening was not something that had previously really occurred to me as necessary, but using mass incarceration and the recent backlash against it...

...had in class allowed us to talk about my thoughts and those of my cohorts. Simultaneously, the studies helped to shape my initial experiences into a more unpredictable comprehension of the content. As I added to my perusing attitudes and insight into what literature is about, I have developed the capacity to make necessary disclosures about anything that I write or even read. Secondly, the academic resources from my lecturers gave us the foundation information that we need to excel in writing, both on reading the class resource books, extensive lectures, and independent research. Likewise, they have assisted us to exhibit our thoughts in a contemplated and thoughtful analysis. On a frequent basis, they would instruct us on points that they have a particular enthusiasm for and have taken a shot at broadly. Their exploration and analysis can be considered as the foundation stage of our interest in writing. To start with, in the contemporary society, there is by all accounts a move towards auxiliary school subjects that have a solid connection to a tertiary course of study. Hence, a there are few parents and a few understudies who feel that the aspect of writing, particularly among high schools, college, and universities is of great importance. For instance, students who devote their time on just English Language alone, with its accentuation on perusing and composing abilities, in some cases neglect to see the purpose of learning about writing. For instance, it happens if they have...

...What do you value in writing? How do you write differently, depending on your readers? Do you write for your own personal pleasure? Writing has always been a hobby for me. From the time I was a child all the way up until my adult life, I often found myself writing short stories for fun. Writing is an outlet. It enables you to empty your mind of all of your thoughts and ideas and write them down on paper; while trying to make an attempt to persuade your audience. My experiences as a writer all tie in together. When I was in the 11th grade, I decided to sign up for creative writing courses. These courses were considered electives and I looked at them as an easy A. Creative writing taught me how to properly and effectively get my message across without error and in the appropriate context. My writing style depends on who my audience is. If I am trying to persuade someone, I am going to take a proposal or an argumentative approach. If I am telling a personal experience, I’m using a friendly approach. My writing style varies depending on the situation. If I am writing an essay, I’m going to try my best to write properly. If I’m texting, I’m going to use free formed words in a sense that I get my message across as quickly as possible. If I’m typing an email at work, I have to make sure that it is grammatically correct, and that my message is professional and clear. Overall, I love writing and learning about different ways to strengthen and perfect my...

...Reflections on Essay Writing EN 1320 Composition 1 Class 8 Oct 2014 Unit 3 Assignment 2: Refelerctions on Essay Writing EN1320 Where to start; to explain about what I have learned about writing in composition 1 class. I have always been a pretty good writer, I think. As long as I like the genre that I’m writing on, I can usually produce a good product. Composition one has helped me slower but surely, I think it will just take a little more time. This class has helped me considering it is only the fourth week of class. I guess my style of writing is; I believe I’m a prewritter, most of the time. First, I get all my source material together, I read and outline said materials and I just start writing. I do the same thing that I’ve always done through my entire US Air Force career. It’s how I approach all my writing assignments and I’ve got proficient at it. In the Air Force, I wrote for subordinates or troops, their EPRs (Enlisted Performance Reports). I always used this approach when I wrote metals, awards and disciplinary reports on someone actions. I would start with few bullet statements or what you would call brief statements on accomplishments. I would start with some short bulleted statements and expound on them. I’ve had a few good supervisors in the Air Force that taught me how to write. They have told me, it doesn’t matter what comes out when you write, just get it down. I have used this lot and I got pretty good at it, for example when an accident occurred...

...College level writing to many is a walk in the park on a nice spring day. On the other hand, to me it is a walk in the snow on a slippery slope. As I write; my critical thinking and writing skills are put to the test to deliver the out most "perfect" essay. However; For whatever reason, I get stuck and my thoughts don't make sense. My words and vocabulary don't come together smoothly as you will see in someone's work. Furthermore, college level writing is known to require time, perfect grammar and understanding of your topic. That is why without these essential skills one will end up with a poor unsubstantial essay. Slow and steady is the way to approach college level writing in my opinion. In order to create a great essay, I need time to explore my options. For example, having an idea of the style and approach I will like to take towards the writing I will be working on. Also creating a plan that will help me with putting time a side for my project so that as soon as I get my topic I can take time on my brainstorming. In my case I get off school before noon. I go straight to the...

...Title The past decades writing centers have become a significant part of university life. (See list of writing centers and links to their sites in appendix A) Most of these writing centers aim for a non-directive or minimalistic approach. (Ryan & Zimmerelli, Stephen North) Non-directive mentoring, also known as minimalistic mentoring, is a way of mentoring in which the tutors distance themselves from the role of editor. The goal of non-directive mentoring is learning and improving the writing skills of the writer, not delivering the perfect paper. (Brooks) As simple as this may sound, it is a very counterintuitive approach to mentoring – within writing centers, it happens more than once that mentors do not succeed in being non-directive with...
