Small family run restaurants are left in the dust by today’s chain restaurants. They make up a small portion of restaurants and are difficult to find. I have been lucky enough to find such a restaurant. After serving here at Vescio’s Italian Restaurant for over two years this is my testimonial as to why serving at a family run restaurant is the best job experience I have ever had and why you as current or prospective servers should take into account such a fantastic experience. Frank T. Vescio opened Vescio’s Italian Restaurant in 1956. He passed away in 1987 but the restaurant has lived on by his son Frank C. Vescio. Vescio’s has been serving authentic Italian cooking and tradition ever since. My first experience with Vescio’s was the Interview. The interview process is less rigorous than I have ever experienced, especially taking into account the chain restaurants I have worked at; Applebee’s and Panera Bread. I went into Vescio’s Italian Restaurant on a Wednesday afternoon midsummer. The girl I was dating at the time worked at the restaurant for about a month when she had mentioned that her boyfriend was in need of a job and that he was capable of doing anything. Donna G. the current server manager was the interviewer. She is an older woman that has been working at the restaurant for over 40 years, she reminded me of my grandmother, extremely young at heart and always willing to learn from the younger generation of servers. After a few minutes of speaking with her I had the job. For Applebee’s and Panera Bread my hand hurt after the hours of paperwork that had to be filled out. I started working only a few days later and I did not know what to expect. Prior experience is not exactly a staple at this family restaurant. Knowing a current server, a family member, or have ate at the restaurant quite a few times are the best ways to be accepted as part of
