My Collage Analysis

The message of my overall collage is that although there was a major and disastrous plummet of America’s economy in the 1930s, farmers and farmhands alike adjusted to the change in order to make life sustainable despite the Great Depression. After the stock market crash of 1929. Nonetheless, farmers during this time period struggled hard to survive due to falling prices, the need for more production in order to pay for rent and to pay off debt acquired over time, and widespread drought.
The first picture in my collage is of a young male splitting wood in preparation of winter, most likely for firewood in order to keep warm. His clothes look a little worn and dirty from working, as a pile of already split wood can be seen behind him. He looks to be around the preteen or teen age, so this conveys that although his family may own the farm, their children would likely be needed to help with various tasks around the farm. …show more content…
The soil on the field appears to be very dry and almost sand-like. This could reflect the widespread droughts that occurred in the 1930s. Like the image of the boy splitting wood, families likely used animals in addition to children to help out with farm jobs such as tending to the fields.
The third image in my collage is of a bucket hanging just above the opening of a well on a farm belonging to Nat Williamson in North Carolina. Many people like myself have likely never seen water wells as we can now obtain water from our faucets and the grocery store, as opposed to drilling or digging in the ground to build a well. However, this was not uncommon on farms to supply water to livestock, crops, and the family of the farmers. The Great Depression and the drought that occurred during the 1930’s caused a push for irrigation to supply crops with water as opposed to relying on

It is a complete understanding of the universe, why it is as is and why it exists at all.” Stephen Hawking Although the goal is termed as simple, it is a monumental albeit fascinating task and qual research often gets endowed with that task in a marketing environment. Hence, the hunt to explain the reasons behind a particular phenomenon or phenomena and arrive at insightful solutions continues. Having said that, Qualitative research also comes under the axe for producing results that are “too conceptual and airy/fairy” or “not robust enough to be actionable” or as the ubiquitous client would put it “telling me things that I already know” or better still “not giving me enough insights”. So how does one combat this? To the authors of this paper, the answer lies in not just adopting the proverbial “thinking out of the box” route but also identifying the insights and enclosing it...

Trail Camera Essay

...In October of 2009, I placed an inexpensive trail camera at the feeding station located on the public land research area. This camera captured a video of one of these “other cryptids”. This was the first occurrence of a “non-Bigfoot” Nephilim creature being captured on video during my research. The trail camera was tripped by an unseen subject shaking it from the side, then, an arm passes in front of the camera. In my opinion, the unseen subject was investigating the trail camera. In front of the camera, in the thick vegetation, is the face of a creature that has features similar to the fictional character “Skeletor.” The video reveals a creature with a white face, dark deep eye sockets, and slim nose. When I first viewed this video, I considered that this might be a Bigfoot. A more thorough analysis of the footage convinced me that this creature was not a Bigfoot, but some unknown cryptid. (Exhibit A)...

Construct and Support Argument Paper

...08 2010 Pursuing a masters in business administration was one of my many dreams and the best decisions I could every make. I knew that choosing to pursue a masters in business administration would begin many new career opportunities. In July 2006, I had the opportunity to obtain my undergraduate degree from the International Academy of Design and Technology Tampa in Recording Arts (Audio Engineering) at the age of 31. At times, the decision felt a little tough because I work time and run my own recording studio. At my old collage, several of my instructors actually made an impact in my life; they advised me to pursue the MBA after six months to a year of rest, in order to get some of my affairs in order. By pursuing an MBA degree, I can also go back and teach at the Academy, it also helps me to achieve goals in my personal life, such as becoming a better businessperson. Some of my former instructors perceive me to be a complex person with a big vision and a low tolerance for stupidity. I thought long about my decision and the time it would take to finish the MBA program and the time I had to give up to accomplish my goals. I did not want to waste any more time and have my dreams ruined, I determined that it made more sense not to wait six months to a year, I only took three months off to give my brain a rest than I decided to pursue my MBA right away after earning my undergraduate degree at the Academy. My decision to pursue an MBA degree was more on considering the benefit...

Blood Pressure

...a chosen experience that I have identified as requiring more knowledge to complete this skill competently. I have chosen to do my learning contract on adult base line observation – blood pressure. The reason I have chosen this skill is because my first experience of taking a blood pressure was not a positive experience and to this day I still get nervous taking someone’s blood pressure. I can do the skill confidently now but feel I need to understand the theory around it to communicate the findings with the woman. When I was first learning to take someone’s blood pressure in intensives I was put down in front of our group by a tutor. I feel this would not have happened had I had more knowledge around the theory before the class which was of my own fault as I hadn’t read the modules thoroughly. I know the normal ranges of blood pressures for adults and how to get the systolic and diastolic numbers but if I was asked by a woman what these numbers mean, I would not be able to correctly and confidently communicate these with her. Existing knowledge - What do I already know about this topic/Skill. • I have had my own blood pressure taken by my doctor many times. • I have practiced taking blood pressures in akonga and intensives • I have taken women’s blood pressure on placement and during follow throughs appointments • I have passed my practise skill sheet for Adult baseline observations part B Specific Learning Need -Refer to...

Writing Journey

...In my younger days, I thought of the term literacy as being able to physically read a written piece of work. I thought the ability to read was when an individual could actually pick up a book, magazine, or even the daily news, and have the ability to understand the collage or words on the page. Most believe that this simple understanding of what words are on the paper is all there is to know about reading. But what most people do not know, is that there is a much deeper meaning behind the word literacy. Along with being able to actually read a piece of literature, there is also having the ability to determine what that piece actually means or the overall message behind it. This helpful but yet difficult skill to attain is the ability to analyze. Many individuals tend to leave the process of analysis out of the equation when discussing literacy abilities. Some also over look the fact the knowledge gained through reading can be applicable to life in general. Consequently, these talents are not just acquired overnight. Learning to read and understand written words and languages takes time, as there are many more parts to literacy than one would imagine. Although learning to read can prove to be difficult, even for the smartest of children, everyone has to start somewhere. For me, my journey began when I was in kindergarden. My teacher, Mrs. Kroon, had a clever trick to help teach her students how to read. She believed that learning to read starts off with becoming familiar with...

Program Evaluation

...The program I am going to talk about in this case report is the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) in the United States. A brief history about the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program, through 1989, nine Prescription Drug Monitoring Program has been established. Two were located in state Attorneys General offices (California 1939 and Pennsylvania, 1972); two departments of Public Safety (Hawaii, 1943 and Texas, 1981) one in Department of Substance Abuse Services (Illinois, 1961); one in a Board of Pharmacy; and one in a Department of Consumer Affairs, Bureau of Health Professions (Michigan, 1988). How PDMPs are organized and operated varies among states. Each state determines which agency houses the PDMP; which controlled substances must be reported; which types of dispensers are required to submit data (e.g., pharmacies); how often data are collected; who may access information in the PDMP database (e.g., prescribers, dispensers, or law enforcement); the circumstances under which the information may (or must) be accessed; and what enforcement mechanisms are in place for noncompliance. A lot of people die from overdose of drugs in the United States and from drug abuse, not only that but there a lot of non-medical drug use in the United States as well. According to the Congressional Research Service Seven million individuals aged 12 or older (2.7% of this population) were current nonmedical users of Prescription or psychotherapeutic drugs in 2010 over 1 million emergency...

White Collar Crime

...White collar crime The phrase white collar crime was first used by Edwin Sutherland in 1939 during a speech to the American Sociological Society. He defined white collar crime as a "crime committed by a person of respectability and high social status in the course of his occupation."(Sutherland, “White-Collar Criminality."). Today, white collar crime refers to illegal offenses that are generally committed in the business or professional setting (white collar versus blue collar jobs) to achieve financial gain. Crimes that do not involve physical violence, and that relate largely to financial matters, are often called white collar crimes. Corporate corruption is out of control for two main reasons. First, big companies are now multinational, while governments remain national. Big companies are so financially powerful that governments are afraid to take them on. It is very important to study the cause and the possible solution for the increase in numbers of white collar crime; our focus needs to shift from Blue Collar Crimes to White Collar Crimes. U.S.A spends nearly $50 billion on fighting Blue Collar Crimes, not even quarter of that amount is spent on fighting White Collar Crimes. Hardly a day passes without a new story of malfeasance. Every Wall Street firm has paid significant fines during the past decade for phony accounting, insider trading, securities fraud, Ponzi schemes, or outright embezzlement by CEOs. A massive insider-trading ring is currently on trial in New York...

Art History

...Tiffany Sudarma History of Photography II Anna Lovatt September 28, 2015 Martha Rosler’s Gender Perspective During the Age of War As a form of art, photography expresses documents, personal visions, and memories that can often define images as very powerful and iconic. In the series Bringing the War Home: House Beautiful (1967-72), Martha Rosler, an American artist specializing in video, performance, installation and photo-text about art and culture, compiles ten photomontages from different magazines in order to convey the controversial issue of war during the early second part of the 20th century. Rosler uses a variety of mediums, but her most recognizable medium is photomontages and photo-collage. Constructed during the peak of U.S. military engagement in Vietnam and an outgrowth of Rosler’s self involvement with anti-war activities, these photographs are a response to the artist’s “frustration with the images we saw in television and print media, even with anti-war flyers and posters. The images we saw were always very far away, in a place we couldn’t imagine.” Through her choice to use colored images, she assembles photos together from homemaking women’s magazine such as Life Magazine and images from war. She accentuates the dominance of domestic representation and intersects it between war imagery by juxtaposing in a brutal and sometimes incongruous way. Rosler’s montages reconnect the two sides of human experience: the war in Vietnam, and the everyday-life...
