...Actions of all roadway users including pedestrians, animals, bicyclists, and other drivers impact your level of risk as a driver. To help manage risk, it is essential that you remain alert to conditions or objects that can increase levels of risk. Here is a checklist to help you manage risk: Conduct a thorough visual search. Search 30 seconds ahead of your path of travel for objects or conditions that could become a threat. Have a plan. Identify an alternate path of travel 15 seconds ahead, and the level of traction available in case of an emergency. Never tailgate. Always travel with an adequate cushion of space ahead of your vehicle. Position your vehicle with space to the sides and the front with an escape route, should you need it. Obey all traffic controls. Exercise the right-of-way rules. Drive defensively. Try to predict the possible actions of other highway users. Do not drive where you cannot see. If your vision is blocked, reduce your speed and reposition your vehicle so you can see well ahead, and around your vehicle; do not forget to look behind. See and be seen. Communicate your presence to other road users by always driving with your daytime running lights or low-beam headlights. Remember, if you cannot see them, they probably cannot see you. Look where you want your vehicle to go. Avoid distractions. Avoid sudden steering and braking movements. Be a considerate driver. Keep your vehicle in...

...Benefits of Fascism Fascism is a type of governance where the government controls politics, social behavior and economy. Under fascism political system, the individual rights of the people are greatly minimized, with the nation being glorified. Citizens are supposed to only work for the government and it is a system that promotes dictatorship. Below are key benefits of fascism. 1. Enhances security The military plays a vital role in a fascist system since it is required for protecting national security as well as fighting enemies. Most of the nation’s resources are given to the military in spite of domestic problems and policies. Fascism gives more significance to the state in contrast to the citizens’ rights and thus military productivity is a vital state interest. This leads to a better military, thereby increasing security. 2. Promotes patriotism Fascism is essential concerned with the protection of national agendas. Individual rights normally take second place, while national policies are provided first priority. Since patriotic symbols, flags and slogans can be seen everywhere, fascism encourages patriotism. The citizens will thereby be united so as to eliminate any perceived threat to the state. 3. Limits media Sometimes media are credited with reporting biased news that causes conflicts amongst the population. In the fascist system, the government has great control over mass media. There are very strict polices placed on media and the government typically...

...The soft beeps of my alarm clock bring me out of my slumber almost immediately, causing a slight jolt to erupt from my body as I sit up in bed. With my eyes half closed, my arm juts out and fumbles with the various objects on my end table until it finally hits that sweet spot on the small, yet loud, box keeping me from sleeping any longer. A light groan escapes my lips, followed by a quick yawn. Sundays are always considered to be the worst, in my own subjective opinion. I stretch my arms out of either side of my body as my legs swing to the right and off of my bed. I give my legs a moment to relax, my hands finding themselves by my hips before finally pushing me off of the bed and onto my feet. As per usual, I trudge out of my room and into...

...instructed otherwise.) Not only is a topic sentence the first sentence of a paragraph, but, more importantly, it is the most general sentence in a paragraph. What does "most general" mean? It means that there are not many details in the sentence, but that the sentence introduces an overall idea that you want to discuss later in the paragraph. For example, suppose that you want to write a paragraph about the natural landmarks of your hometown. The first part of your paragraph might look like this: My hometown is famous for several amazing natural features. First, it is noted for the Wheaton River, which is very wide and beautiful. Also, on the other side of the town is Wheaton Hill, which is unusual because it is very steep. (Notice how the first sentence begins with "My hometown..." a few spaces to the right of the paragraph edge. This is an indentation. All paragraphs in English MUST begin with an indentation.) Note how the first sentence, My hometown, Wheaton, is famous for several amazing geographical features,is the most general statement. This sentence is...

...Kimberly Tucker, Chris Salt, Ashley Solomon Case 7: Mattel: Overcoming Marketing and Manufacturing Challenges 11/01/2010 Marketing Management 6800 Section 004 The Problem: The problem surrounding Mattel Inc., one of the world’s largest toy companies, is their mismanagement of international subcontractors and vendors and the production of certain toys (the manufacturing process), as well as their inability to adapt their marketing strategy or product to the constantly changing “demographic and socioeconomic trends” (Ferrell, et. all 466). This is supported by Mattel’s legal battle with Carter Bryant and MGA, their forced recall of certain toys that were manufactured overseas, and the increasing rate at which traditional toys are becoming less appealing to today’s young audience. Essentially, Mattel’s mismanagement and oversight lead to violations in terms of ethical and social responsibilities and safety standards. Issues Relevant to the Problem: Mattel’s problem of mismanagement can be divided into several issues that need to be considered: legal issues, international supply chain issues, and an increase in technology-based toys. In regards to legal issues, Mattel has been involved in prolonged litigation with Carter Bryant and MGA over a breach of an employment contract and copyright infringement. Due to Mattel’s poor management of its overseas manufacturers, in which unauthorized subcontractors and third-party suppliers were hired and unsafe materials used, several...

...Cornell, that's pretty nice.” She replied smirking “Haha yeah. It's almost like a tradition in my family to go there. How about you?” “I went to New York University and studied law. It's actually a tradition in my family to go to Cornell too. I grew up in a foster home most of my life and didn’t learn about the tradition until recently when I was digging into my birthparents past and stuff.” Kamberly replied. “I grew up in a foster home too. Maybe that's where we have seen each other. Where did you grow up?” he asked “I’ve grown up here, in New York for my whole life. Never lived anywhere else. How about you?” “Oh, that can’t be it then. I grew up in Washington most of my life.” he replied “Weird question, but what’s your last name?” she asked. She had a feeling that she needed to ask that question. She didn’t know why it just kept nagging at her mind. “Arrowmen.” She felt her jaw drop and her eyes widen. She couldn’t believe it. The hair, the eyes, the smile. It all seemed too familiar. She had known there was a possibility that she had siblings, but she never put much thought into it. “That my last name.” she replied quietly. His eyes started watering. He couldn’t meet her...

...Why would an author of a book influence me so much? It is because Daniel Quinn has written "My Ishmael" in such a beautiful way that what he's thinking comes across to you like as though you're having a conversation in person with him. He uses a talking Gorilla as a means to convey his points of view on how the world is in a degenerative mode and though I felt this strange at first, it became clear later as to why he used a Gorilla in the first place. The Gorilla here represents nature's voice and is a reminder that we need to look for ways to communicate with nature, first hand. This was the first eye opening aspect from the author. The second was the author's penchant for coming up with brilliant stories to derive and communicate his point to the reader. Instead of driving in his philosophies by pure theory would have been boring and heavy, but the author uses wonderful and thought provoking stories to do the same, so effectively. The first was the simple concept of food kept under lock and key. This is a practice that comes so naturally to us, but he brings out why this is a very unnatural way of things. For early man, what grew in the world belonged to everyone in the society, and to put it under lock and key is to basically create a working class who will do tasks, useful or useless, in order to earn their bread. Ishmael's (the name of the gorilla) teachings turn toward the subject of formal education, which he argues is merely a way to keep children out of the work...

...Case 1 Marketing Strategy Jasmine Hall Mattel 1. Yes, Manufacturers of children’s products have a special obligation to not mislead consumers and society. One responsibility to the society that Mattel is performing is their commitment to protecting the privacy of their online customers when visiting their website or purchasing a product online. By assuring parents that their children’s privacy will be respected, Mattel demonstrates that that is takes its responsibility of marketing to children very seriously. They are also responsible for product safety, quality, protecting the environment, customs, evaluation and monitoring and compliance. Mattel’s business partners must have high standards for product safety and quality, adhering to practices that met Mattel’s safety and quality standards, which have been seriously violated in the past. Also, because of the global nature of Mattel’s business and its history of leadership in this area, the company insists that business partners strictly adhere to local and international customs laws. Partners must comply with all import and export regulations. The company also seeks to maintain an independent monitoring system that provides checks and balances to help ensure that standards are met. If certain aspects of Mattel’s manufacturing principles are not met, Mattel will try to work with contractors to help them fix their problems. New partners will not be hired unless they meet Mattel’s standards. If corrective action is advised...

...Easter and Christmas. If they have some way of knowing your birthday, that too would be an appropriate time. It really depends on if they have some way of getting more information on the corporation that could provide insight to a corporation. For example for a college, possibly after first semester and the school year would be a good time to promote Jody’s as a good gift for all of Carthage’s staff. 2. From what I gathered in the article, it seems you can really target any type of business. I say this due to the diversity between just holidays, as well as University’s and professional sport’s teams. This widens the reach of the product drastically in my eyes. Possibly if they could purchase an ad in a popular business magazine, with possible promotional code to get people to check out their website. Also they should maintain their social media marketing as well. 4. The first thing I notices is how much more user friendly is then the other premium popcorn sites. The only one that came close to Jody’s was the popcorn factory. I also noticed that Jody’s had their contact information right on top of the page so you can’t miss it. There is nothing worse than having to search to find a companies contact information. I like how the show a nice amount of pictures on the opening page and then more information if you pick on a selected product. A lot of the websites were way to wordy. In the brief time I spent on these sites the only real disadvantage I may have saw was...

...can’t put it into words. James might be able to; he might be able to give you a taste of his life. All I can say is… well… to me, James is a friend, but to the world, he’s a hero. Chapter 1 I’m going to try to explain this to you, my story. A lot of the stuff that happens here is horrible, but it is the truth. I wouldn’t lie. You may not understand a lot of it. That’s normal. Let’s see if I can remember where it all started… It was in January when I was recruited. That whole month blurred together. I don’t remember much of it. I started the brutal training in February. Let’s just say that it was about 2 degrees shy of hell. We were pushed to the limit. They had mock prisons where they would torture us and see if we could hold up. One time we had to swim through blood. Nothing will ever be able to describe it. About 6 months after the grueling training ended I was assigned to my first mission. It was a black ops mission and I was going in solo. A black ops mission means that if I died or was captured, the military would deny that I had any participation with them. For some reason though, I didn’t care if I died. If I died, I died. No fear, no regrets. No one even cared if I died so why should I? Finally I got my task. I was...
