My Personal Why
A Goals Essay
April 2012

There are many aspects of management. It consists of more than reading and interpreting reports. It is also about caring and respecting your employees.

One statement stands out to me throughout all of my management classes and courses I have taken throughout my career: people do not leave bad jobs, they leave bad bosses. My personal goal as a member of management has been to never become so consumed in moving results that I lose focus on the very people I am counting on to move those results.

Associates want to know and feel that their managers care about them. The Bible teaches us this about love: "It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs." (1 Corinthians 13:5 NIV) A manager should always strive to uphold these standards. It is essential that each associate is treated equally and respectfully. Supervision is not only about providing leadership, guidance and instruction. It is also about caring and nurturing. And it is about setting proper examples as "bad company corrupts good character." (1 Corinthians 15:33 NIV) Integrating my Christian faith in the workplace aids me in ensuring that all of my subordinates receive the same unbiased treatment they deserve and credit they have earned.

Ecclesiastes 9:10 NIV tells me "whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might" essentially “do my job to the best of my ability.” In order to be successful and be the best supervisor or manager I can be I must be prepared. One aspect of that preparation is to continuously educate myself by reading articles and books authored by those successful in the realm of leadership. Another aspect is to pursue higher education. In this world of emerging leaders, obtaining a Bachelor’s degree is often not enough to achieve great levels of accomplishment when there

Personal Narrative: Why I Ended My Life

...Josh Meyers, I'm going to tell you the story of why I ended my life. It all started the summer before my first year of college. All of my friends and I were going to separate colleges which were spread out through out the country. Since we were leaving the next week we decided that we were going to go to a party. All of my friends are big drinkers and love to party, me on the other hand, I would rather be at home. I decided to go though because it would be the last night I would spend out with my friends for a while. The night of the party my best friends Vinny McYahnt and Mikey Mendoeza picked me up 25 minutes late in Mikey's moms grey mini van. As we were on our way to the party we started to talk about how everything was going to change. When we got to the party my friends went straight to the beer, I just went and sat down. I really didn't really talk to anyone at the party. After a while I decided to get something to drink just to fit in, but one turned into two then another and another. I still don't know how many drinks I had that night, but after a while I began to get dizzy. There is a possibility that I was drunk, I am a very small person and I didn't drink that often. I was starting to get sick and I wanted to lie down, so I decided to get Mikey's keys and go into the car. He finally gave me the keys and...

Personal Narrative: Why I Lost My Pinkies

...The topic of my paper may seem trivial and dumb, but most things seem that way until you have lost them. Who would have known that the loss of something so small could change my attitude towards it? I now drop the cloak of mystery and reveal it to be the time I lost my pinkies. I did not literally lose them, but fractured them both leaving me slightly incapacitated. Some might shrug their shoulders thinking, “Big deal”, but I will now elucidate the matter. To understand my story, there are a couple things I must make clear. First off, I attend a private, all male, Catholic high school, run by Catholic priests, which consists of about only twenty-four students. Second, this school is a boarding school in Minnesota—a couple miles away from my state of California. And lastly, when I refer to someone as Father “(name)”, it means they are a Catholic priest....

Personal Narrative: Why I Give Back To My Community

...I have done many things to give back to my community. First, I volunteered to help coach young kids during an AYF football mini camp. This was a very fun experience because I got to share my knowledge of football that I have developed over my 10 years of playing football. The camp was three days long and ran for a couple hours each day. It felt good to give back to the community and the kids that will play for the teams that I played for. I am also a part of my school’s National Honor Society, and we take part in many service projects throughout the year. My personal service project was teaching a group of freshmen how to work out. This was a very meaningful and fun experience because I got to teach kids how to do something that I love. Personal Responsibility

...Personal Responsibility GEN/200 10/25/2012 Personal Responsibility To me personal responsibility means being accountable for your actions and taking responsibility for the outcome of your life. Proper time management, staying focused, disciplined and consistent are some of the qualities I consider when thinking about personal responsibility and its definition to me. As I go through life I have noticed that unsuccessful people can make up many different excuses for why they are not where they want to be in life or why they have not achieved the level of success they are capable of. On the other hand, when I speak to successful people the only real difference I notice is the fact that successful people do not make excuses for their selves or limit their success to their demographic or background. I plan to use these qualities time management, focus and consistency to help me complete my journey in achieving my bachelors here at the University of Phoenix. First and many would argue the most important factor to becoming a good student would be how you manage your time. Improper time management can lead to having to cram for test which is not a good way to learn in my opinion. It can also lead to turning in assignments late or incomplete thus leading to an unsatisfactory grade in your class. I believe proper time management especially for adult students is not only a personal responsibility but it becomes a whole family responsibility as well. Many of us have a spouse and children...

Sociology the spice of life, why taking a course in sociology is important the reason is to develop an understanding about the current events that are happening throughout the world. As a graphic designer it is imperative for the designer to have a grasp of the current events so that the designer can advertise the negative and positive events such as restaurants, technology, parks, poverty, and sickness. In my field of study as a graphic artist, I am being exposed to the different style of design, but, for me to fully understand I need to understand each new opportunity, sociology is a class I find that will assist with this understanding by opening the mind to something new by expanding my mind to the positive and negative of the world, I will have a different perspective and a certain amount empathy that I can merge into my designs. As a full-time student, I will face new endeavors still new to the changes I will have to experience on my own, I will be out on my own in the current world I will need a sharp wit and the knowledge to be able to survive; sociology though new to this course has given me a brand-new understanding taking sociology in college will give me the advantage I need in to express the emotion others who can not speak for themselves.
