“The Mission of NAMI Metro Suburban is to improve the quality of life for those individuals and their families who are affected by mental illness. We achieve this goal through advocacy, support, and education (free of charge) with in the communities of West Suburban Cook County.”
Twenty-three years have passed since NAMI Metro Suburban opened its doors to help families and adults living with mental illness. The impact on the community has strengthened since it’s humble beginnings in 1993 expanding the programs reach into 5 neighboring suburban communities. These fundraising goals are ambitious but doable if NAMI continues its focus on empowering communities and raising awareness. Compared to the 2014 auditor’s report, NAMI is hoping for an increase in foundation support of 40% and fundraising divided by 50%.
Increasing foundation grants is achievable by staff’s dedication to this goal. Previously, the executive director was solely researching grants, however, there are multiple staff members with knowledge and skill in locating and applying for grants. Incorporating help within the organization will help in obtaining additional support and resources to grow grant assets.
The most ambitious goal is increasing fundraising revenue by 50%. This increase is compared to the revenue raised in the last audit report, not the return on investment. More engagement within the catchment area communities and beyond will increase the visibility of NAMI Metro Suburban. The offices of NAMI Metro Suburban are easily accessible via public transit from many Chicago neighborhoods and all of the services provided are free of charge. Although NAMI Metro Suburban services adults with mental illness the organization can gain more funding by starting earlier intervention and awareness programs or events. By providing events for youth, NAMI Metro Suburban benefits from exposure to younger and more diverse family groups, potentially drawing in a target group of adults who might have otherwise been over looked or uninformed of the affiliates services.
