...On Monday, September 26, 2016, I, Officer B. McMillon, #135, of the Mansfield ISD Police Department was on assignment at Legacy High School located at 1263 N. Main in Mansfield, Texas 76063. At approximately 10:49 a.m. I heard a loud commotion and saw a crowd of students huddling around in the NE corner of the cafeteria. I proceeded to the location where the crowd was gathered and observed Alvarado, Rene H/M, D.O.B. 02/03/2000 and Nelson, Brett W/M D.O.B. 01/04/2000 who had appeared to have been involved a physical altercation. Nelson told me and AP Villegas that he was just sitting at a lunch table when Alvarado came up to him and started punching him. Nelson said he was in fear for his safety so he defended himself. Nelson said that they had been in an argument outside the school prior to the altercation that occurred today. I asked Nelson if he felt any pain or have any injuries from the altercation. ...The primary purpose of historical narratives is to report as accurately as possible what happened at each particular place and time in history. But each of the writers in this unit (De Vaca, Bradford, and Equiano) went beyond merely reporting the facts; they had other, more personal reasons for writing what they did. Each of them had a personal agenda. Equiano’s personal agenda in The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano was to shame his white audience into abolishing the slave trade by describing the horrible events that took place on the ship. While he did state facts about the ship, Equiano described personal experiences to persuade the audience more. For example, Equiano describes the smell of the hold as being “…so intolerably loathsome, that it was dangerous to...

...When one thinks of a narrative piece of writing, you may automatically refer to the idea of an anecdote being told in some way, often deriving from real life events. Narration generally means any kind of explaining or telling of something and It is usually used in reference to storytelling. Throughout chapter 5, the authors tell you that persuasive essays, historical surveys, and scientific reports support narration. Narration helps people to clearly understand what it is that the narrator or author is trying to convey. It also helps them to clearly explain ideas and back them with examples. Furthermore, narration and description are distinctly different. Description portrays people, places, and objects whereas narration will point you in...

...The narrative of Venture and the database of slave voyage illustrates different parts of the slave trade. The narrative of Venture Smith tells of his journey before reaching the slave ship in more detail and with more passion and emotion, although it is based of memory and could have distortions. On the other, the slave voyages database give us reliably general data on the journey itself, and it can be used as a reference to check the validity of a narrative but also to see what was left out or excluded and for what reason. By putting Venture’s narrative and the voyage database information together, we can see the general journey that the overall slave population took, and how the ship started in north America, then went to Africa, followed...

...Unit: Point of View Introduction In this unit we will examine point of view. The perspective from which the story is told is a key facet of narrative. “In telling a story, who tells it is of paramount importance” (Bohner and Grant 15). Narrator “Choosing a narrative point of view is perhaps the most important and most difficult decision a writer of a story makes. Point of view—like plot, character, setting, and language—is a creative decision; however, it is also a very much a technical decision” (Bohner and Grant 15). “Someone has to tell the story. That someone is called the narrator. But the question is who will that narrator be and what does the narrator know” (Bohner and Grant 15). Mediation Drama and film unfold directly before our eyes. In narrative fiction there is always something (a viewer, a speaker, both) between the reader and the action: a point of view other than our own has already been imposed. This is mediation. Point of view involves the angle of vision (the point of view from which the people, events, and other details are viewed). This view is called the focus. The words of the story lying between the reader and the story is the voice. Focus Focus acts like a camera. It chooses what we can look at, the angle at which we can view it, and how it is framed. In this case, a tv screen vs. a movie screen. Details and emphasis change depending upon the frame and the focus in both text and film. Angles in film...

...risk to give the auditors a basis for planning the audit and determining the nature, timing, and extent of audit procedures for the account balance (substantive) audit program. B. For secondary reason for evaluating internal control is to provide information useful to the management and directors for carrying out the company’s control mission. Regulators, Congress, and the public have been concerned about auditors’ communication of internal control and other matters to high levels in public corporations. Another responsibility is to communicate internal control matters noted in an audit to the audit committee of the company’s board of directors and directly to shareholders through their report on management’s assertion of effective internal control in the annual report. ...Introduction Businesses of all sizes face many challenges at present. Key challenges in relation to corporate reporting are to ensure that the annual report and accounts provide relevant and reliable information to stakeholders, comply with relevant law and accounting standards and tell a consistent story. All directors, both executive and non-executive, have a legal responsibility for preparing accounts and must not approve accounts unless they are satisfied that they give a true and fair view of the assets, liabilities, financial position and profit or loss. It is important not to underestimate your legal responsibility as a non-executive director to prepare accounts that give a true and fair view and that comply with the law and accounting standards. Following are the three issues in Financial Reporting which I consider are significant: 1. Going Concern - the continuing challenge The going concern assumption is a fundamental principle that underlies the preparation of the vast majority of financial reports. A company is a going concern when it is considered to be able to pay its debts as and when they are due, and continue in operation without any intention or necessity to liquidate or otherwise wind up its operations for at least the next 12 months. The continuing difficult economic conditions mean that the assumption that the business is a going concern may not be clear-cut in some cases and directors may need to make careful judgements relating to going concern...

...essay requires constructing a narrative. As we study narratives, we will examine using effective style and language and the following patterns of development: narratives that lead to a sudden insight, narratives that report facts and historical events, and narratives that illustrate a position or a philosophical perspective. We will also examine techniques of writing descriptions of people, places, and things, using comparisons, and writing dialogue. This part of the course also includes a study of writing as process, sentence structure, major sentence errors, modification, parallelism, and manuscript mechanics. A review of basic sentence structure will provide guidance in writing sentences effectively with variety, emphasis, and correctness. ...with fiction that are involved in the story development of these two articles. Some of these techniques include the use of subjective, personal voice, the development of strong characters and the creation of tension and suspense. In both the two articles, the authors use subjective journalism where they involve their views into conveying the reality in a way that they want to manipulate the readers. In an article by Sabrina Rubin, the author describes how Rebecca Blumer was raped by three army men. The military officers did not treat this case kindly as they discouraged her from asking for a rape kit and failed to collect forensic evidence. Finally, her skyrocketing military job came to an end. Although it may be a factual narrative, the author reports only one side of the story; about the military’s culture of rape. Consequently, Rebecca allegations could have been a hoax. On the other hand, Charlie, the author of “What Killed Jones?” is also subjective especially where he blames abject poverty on the death of a young girl. He describes the life of Detroit and uses statistics to persuade the reader to agree that that “one death” was a reflection of unsolved homicides. Another technique that the authors employ is the use of the persona voice in both articles to establish the predicaments from the emotions of the people that encountered it. Sabrina disguises as the persona of the person being interviewed to...

...which in Adler’s terms demonstrates a clear example of the ‘damned if you don’t’ option. Conversely, France acted with immediate aggression and enhanced air strikes against ISIS following the Paris attacks. This exemplifies a decisive acceptance of the ‘damned if you do’ pillar of the dilemma. Certainly, the striking difference in the responses of Spain and France to their respectively incurred attacks is perplexing. The goal of this paper is to identify domestic factors that help explain the variance of state’s responses to terror attacks. An identification of overlying patterns will provide valuable insights for both the specific field of terrorism studies and the overall disciplines of political science / international relations. Hypotheses and methodology: Before an examination of the two case studies I will first posit several hypotheses that seek to address the puzzle of why states respond in vastly different ways in the midst of terror related events. These hypotheses are derived from Adler’s initial argument and a preliminarily interpretation of the two case studies. While I will propose three distinct hypothesis, they are all interrelated. Certainly, all of them place an emphasis on domestic factors / social conditions: H1. The framing of the events is crucially important. If the politicians and media provide a unified/sensationalist narrative it is more likely that the state will act aggressively (damned if you do). For example, the French Government’s emphasis on labelling...
