INTRODUCTION

On-the-Job Training (OJT) refers to a method of acquiring knowledge, skills, and competencies as a result of practical experience working in a related job environment. College universities require their students to have their OJT as a part of the curriculum with a specific number of hours. This type of training can help the students to become more familiar with the realities of working. In doing the OJT or internship, the student trainees will learn to be more disciplined and organized in every task that they were doing. THE TRAINING EXPERIENCE

The trainee submitted requirements before she started her official training. First, she gave a recommendation letter (see Appendix Figure A) from the school to the company together with her curriculum vitae (see Appendix Figure B). And when he completed her 200 hours of training period, her time card (see Appendix Figure C) was recorded on a bundy clock. And she gave an evaluation form (see Appendix Figure D) to those people who handled the trainee during her stay on the company. The MIS gave her a Certificate of Completion (see Appendix Figure E) after she finished her training.

Tasks Performed

Specific Tasks

Setting up PC. If there are any newly hired workers, the trainee is responsible in setting up the computer they will be using.
Installing. Installing different application and software are also part of the tasks of the trainee. Usually, she installs software like Adobe Photoshop 6, Avast Anti-virus and Microsoft office.
Assembling and disassembling of computers. If one of the employees is requesting for hardware, the trainee is responsible to change the said hardware.

Troubleshooting. The trainee also troubleshoot computer if any problems occurred. The usual problem on the company is the speed of the internet and the connection of the PC to the printer.
Connecting Printers. Trainee was also responsible if someone needs to print out an important document. She will connect the particular computer to the printer to access the printing of documents. Blocking Social Networking Site. If ever there are newly requested computer, the trainee will block first all of the Social Networking Site of the computer to make sure that the user will focus only on their work. Speed Testing. This was done by the trainee to check the speed of the internet connection after the server was restarted.

Duties Assigned

Crimping LAN Cables. The trainee make a LAN Cable if one of the cables was broken. She will use crimping tool, UTP cables and RJ45 to make a LAN Cable. After that, she will check the finished cable using the LAN Tester. Audit of Computers. The trainee use to audit the computer’s information on the entire computer inside the company. She will check the information in three (3) different ways. First, she will click the Windows Key together with “R” until the “RUN” tab appears. Then she will type “DXDIAG” to view the information on a particular computer. You will see the System Model of the computer and other information. Then she will go to “CMD” command and type “IPCONFIG” to view the IP address of the computer. And lastly, she will click “CTRL” and “Pause Break” to view the information like the CPU on the computer, the RAM memory and the Operating System on a particular computer.

Observations and Insights

The trainee observed that Tai Hsin Garments Co. Inc. should add more IT staffs in their company. There is only one IT staff that goes regularly in the office to assist all the employees with the computer related problems they were encountering. The other IT staff of the company seldom goes to the office and if he does, he will just check if there is any need to update the company’s website and inventory system. But even though the company lacks with IT staffs, the regular one is still able to perform his tasks well.

Strengths and Weaknesses of the Training Area

The computers in IT Department were all new and upgraded. They are using Windows 8 as their PC’s operating system. The staffs were all accommodating. The training area was fully air conditioned so the employees will be more comfortable while they are working. On the other hand, the IT Department does not have their own room. Their office was also located at the Admin office together with the other departments of the company. As a result, some people or employees who walk through the designated area for the IT department will see what they are doing. They do not have their privacy while working.
Problems Encountered by the Trainee

One of the problems the trainee encountered was her working environment. The manager and two of her staffs usually yells at each other rather than talking or communicating in a formal way. With these, the trainee had some difficulties to focus on what she is doing. Another problem is that, the trainee was having a hard time in communicating with the Top Management. They are all Taiwanese National and it is the first time of the trainee to socialize with that kind of persons. They speak very fast and the trainee was having difficulty in understanding what they are saying.

Suggestions for Program Development

First, the trainee would like to suggest the university that the On-the-Job Training of their students should be on their 4th and last year. With this, the trainee would be possibly absorbed by the company they have worked with. Second, they should add more time on the curriculum so that the students will stay longer in the company and they will learn more about the field of Information Technology. Lastly, the trainee would like to suggest that the school should be the one to provide the company for the students. Since the school is responsible for the student’s learning, they should provide a suitable company for them.

Suggestions for Self-improvement

The trainee needs to gain more self confidence. She also needs patience and determination in doing her tasks. She needs to be more productive and have initiative to do tasks even though without the consent of her mentor to do so. Being effective and calm under pressure must be developed more by the trainee.

...Narrative report for Delivery Room duty. “Life is one precious thing that everyone can cherish. Some might waste it but when they see how our mothers gave all there effort just to bring each and everyone of us in this world, they might be fighting with their conscience.” This is what I learned from this rotation. My life brought me to this life changing experiences. My mommy is the only person I talk about my life, my problems, my achievements, and she fills up the emptiness I felt when I was down. In any instances, she never brought me down. I’m including this to my narrative, because even though she never really did felt the hard thing about “bearing down a child” because she was a post-cesarian section patient for me and my brothers, but she felt the pain in labor which is the hardest of them all as a patient told me. In my duty here in the delivery room made me reflect about the life my mommy, luckily gave me. So I decided not to waste it and cherish all the sacrifices and pain she felt when she was giving birth to me. And when I delivered my first ever baby, I texted my mommy right away saying, “Hey Mommy, I Love You! Thank you for this wonderstrucking life. I’ll be home soon.” Our clinical exposure here at Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center made us stressed, tired but we can tell ourselves that after this rotation. We can surely handle anything else. Thanks to our Clinical instructor Ma’am Marie Ann Lapitan, She was one of my favorite instructor *no joke*. From my...

...IV NARRATIVE REPORT 1. Weekly Narrative Report a. First Week: November 24-28, 2014 “New challenges were started, new experiences were encountered, and new learnings were met—all these things came in the first week of my practice teaching experience.” As I was assigned in Vicente B. Ylagan National High School (VBYNHS), I discovered that practice teaching was a very crucial part of a student-teacher’s life. In the very first day of our practice teaching, 24th day of November 2014, together with my colleagues, daily schedule and subjects were given to us and we were assigned to our cooperating teachers. Based on my schedule’s list, I have a one-hour class period in the morning, from 8:20 to 9:20 for English class and two-hour class from 1:00 to 2:00 and another 3:00 to 4:00 in the afternoon for both MAPEH class. It was a big relief to have my minor subject-MAPEH because there were no computations anyway, but having its four components was not as easy as pie. And, the cooperating teachers that were given to me were Sir Jaypee Jimenez for my English subject and Sir Eleno Bandayrel for my MAPEH. Besides, on that day, we also met the professional teachers on that institution, few new colleagues and students with unfamiliar faces, and my major and minor class-9-Onyx and 9-Jade.
