That is what Next Term, We’ll Mash You written by Penelope Lively is about. In the short story we are introduced to Charles, the protagonist, and his parents, who take a visit to St. Edward’s Preparatory School, which is a very fine school. While the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Manders, speak to the headmaster, the wife of the headmaster shows Charles the school and let him talk to some of the student. She leaves Charles and the inquisitive student alone and in between all the questioning the words “Next term, we’ll mash you” are said. The main theme of the text is expectations from parents. There is another side theme which could be defined as wanting to please your parent or being obliged to speak up for your own sake. A different and third theme could be social status or ones position in society. The text is a short story because there are few characters involved. The plot takes place over a short period of time and is told chronologically. The narrator is an all-knowing 3rd who has the ability to reveal the characters thought. Status, money and power can be very intriguing and Penelope Lively’s short story “The Happiest Days of Your Life”, 1978, is a great example on how one can outshine the other. The parents in the story clearly have the best intentions for their only child, Charles, but the lack of communication between them and their child will result in a bad choice. The short story “The Happiest Days of Your Life” is told by an omniscient author in 3rd person. The story’s point of departure is the protagonist Charles who is the child of the two other characters we meet, Charles’ parents; “He looks straight a head of him, at the road coiling beneath the bonnet of the car. His face is haggard with anticipation. 'Next term, we'll mash you...’” (p. 59, l. 5-7) is a great example of the omniscient author since the author tells us how the child feels and thinks. On the other hand the author does not know of Charles’ father’s thoughts or the other characters we meet throughout the story. We also get a bit of an expression of the mother’s thoughts and feelings, but not as much as we get to know Charles. ...Essay: The Happiest Day of Your Life Life changing decisions isn’t easy, especially not when somebody wants to make them for you and not guide you. Your future is entirely decided by someone else. When silence seems like it couldn’t be any louder and nobody takes notice. This will be my interpretation of the novel named The Happiest Day of Your Life by Penelope Lively. The novel is written in third person narrative, an example of that would be in the beginnig when the narrator describes the setting the boy and his family are in. We hear about the characters different actions and feelings but the narrator doesn’t comment on them, which makes it omniscient without comments. The narrator describes Charlie directly in the beginning of the novel, where the mother is described through her comments and behavior. Modes that are used are direct and indirect conversations and descriptions of different settings. The novel takes place in St. Edward’s Preparatory School in the suburbs of London. The novel begins and ends in the car. The parents are very excited and the atmosphere in the car is quite tense. It differs from Charlie to the parents. ...Yoo what is going on guys my name is mew2fannate and today I am bringing you my first speculation video regarding potential Mega Evolutions for the new Pokémon games coming out later this year. Considering the titles of these new games, are Pokémon Sun and Moon, I think it might be appropriate to look at Pokémon that utilize the Sun stone and Moon stone to evolve. We will be looking at how this can impact the game from a competitive standpoint and we will be rating on a scale of 1 to 10 each individual mega on how likely game freak would make this go from speculation to reality. Now let’s get into it! The first Pokémon on our list evolves using the Sun Stone. Sunflora is a Pokémon from gen 2 that overall below average stats, but what hurts this Pokémon a lot is that it is a grass type with a horrible speed stat of just base 30. I personally don’t even see a mega evolution helping this Pokémon unless it is granted a new typing. I might like to see sunflora get a secondary fire typing through mega evolution. Granted it doesn’t have access to any fire type moves up to 6th gen, gen 7 might go ahead change that up and give it access to flamethrower or fire blast. I’d say a mega evolution for sunflora with a new fire typing and some boosted stats could bump it up to the RU tier due to being able to take a hit much better and access to more coverage.
